Confirmation bias, you only remember the assholes because it makes it feel worst.

To be fair, if you go into a game, about 5-6 of the total 9 other players you're stuck with are probably jerks. And you may easily be one as well, so that's easily 6-7 players per game of 10.

The competitive nature of games like League often result in a toxic playerbase as a matter of fact. It's usually to do with assholes tend to be competitive so they tend to show up in competitive games, and then by being assholes they either push the other well mannered competitive players out/so they eventually give up and quit or they ended up being converted by the constant exposure to toxicity.

Because being dicks online has no consequence. Many people are assholes who usually do as much as they can get away with. They will tell you all about how "if I don't do it, someone else will."

The real irony is that for this exact reason, regulations are inevitable to become tighter and tighter. And when it happens, they also whinge all about how things are being too draconian, without realising that is only the case because them.

If one day online identity were to be linked with your real life identity. It won't be because of some kind of conspiracy all of these assholes like to cling themselves to. it would be entirely because of them being assholes, sometimes utter piss stains, and getting away with it for decades that had pushed it to the limit forcing such law to exist.

Same reasons why no one legitimately gave a shit about cryptocurrency until it was abused by and rife with all kinds of exploits and criminal activities that governments were forced to jump in. But oh noes, regulation bad because I want to keep doing as much shit as possible and trying to keep the spiraling and flimsy free-for-all cesspool in check is clearly too much!
