Is Vladimir's PAssive going to be removed?

Best princess EU··7 votes·1,222 views

Riot during their Rework to a lot of champs, removed passives that converted Stats.

Kayle's passive used to convert AP into AD, AD into AP. Jax's passive used to convert AD/AP into HP Vlad's passive is the only one who remains so i'm wondered riot?

i wish they just delete the AP into HP passive, building AP by building HP is unique and not anti-fun since it's 1 AP every 40 hp, and there are less HP items that vlad uses compared to AP items

"Yasuo doubles his amount of crit chance" Is it really chance though?

I don't really think HP->AP is any healthier than AP->HP. Fundamentally, if Riot's in the business of removing free gold passives, they should get rid of both (and not stop therecoughYasuocough)

because like someone said above vladimir doesn't get a carry lvl of damage by building hp, so as a tank he would be completly useless. this is healthy.

Mandang03 votes

I mean, if by "healthy", you mean "harmless", sure... go ahead and give Vlad a trash passive.

However, the principle of the matter's no different whether Vlad's getting free gold from HP or free gold from AP. I would hope Riot chooses a more nuanced solution to his problem of free gold than simply lowering the amount of that gold.

Or, even better: keep his damn passive. I wouldn't object to adding a resource bar that gains stacks when Vladimir uses Q or something and loses stacks to do more damage with his W and E or whatever. Or, they could change his ultimate to be kind of like Morgana's: an AoE tether to all champions around him that slightly slow them and drain health (so like if Fiddlestick's Drain and Morgana's ultimate had a baby?) and he gains stacks of his passive as the duration goes on.

Plus, with a passive that gains power as the fight goes on (and maybe increases healing or whatever cause he IS a blood mage), then he would be more focused on sustained fights.

Vlad's passive is needed for his current kit though. He's a short-ranged DPS caster with pretty large health costs overall.

Just having the 2nd part would essentially delete the passive. Might as well just give him a new one if you're going to do that.

Vlad is somewhat of a drain tank if you ask me.

They could increase the HP into AP ratio, though, allowing HP items to be even more cost efficient on him.

The health costs, while I know are high, are mitigated heavily when he is played correctly because of his healing. Saying Vladimir requires more defenses besides his W untargetability plus innate sustain is doing a heavy injustice to other short range DPS casters who usually only have one way to mitigate damage.

He needs an entirely new passive, Q, and maybe even E.

Spizzle90002 votes

Debatable. I love his current state, both playing as and against him. If they change his passive and Q, he loses the whole blood mage feeling. Makes sense that a blood mage can take your blood and does more damage the more health (which is kinda like health I guess) he has and vice versa. E, I could live with it being changed, but if they turn his Q into a skillshot, that'd make zero sense.

1374341 votes

The problem with his Q is that it is not a healthy skill. It is ranged no cost point and click spell that damages and gives you health. Riot has already stated they don't like it.

Spizzle90001 votes

True, but the problem is it makes so much damn sense thematically and you can't have a hemomancer who doesn't drain his enemies of their blood.

Stand Alone Wolf2 votes

Lest we also forget that his q replenishes the health that you lose having a w, & e that drain your hp. It's not like it should cost him hp. I'm not saying that it's good, but for what it does vs his w, & e? it's helpful/necessary just as much as Aatrox blood-thirst.

1374341 votes

The problem is with just a little bit of spell vamp (which many Vlad's buy) and a spirit visage (also a common buy) his w and especially e basically cost no hp to use.

Vlad is one of the major reasons why spell vamp is so gimped.

I think Vlad having the ability to self-heal is totally healthy, obviously his health costs are balanced around him being able to sustain himself with it. The problem is how it goes about sustaining him. I'm sure when Riot inevitably change his Q (can't see it not being reworked) it'll still be a harass/sustain tool, but it will almost certainly go about being that tool in a much healthier way.

I wouldn't mind the amount of hp gained from q to be less/scale lower. it would make his early-game a bit more challenging, & punishing if his w, & e are abused, but then that doesn't solve the amount of safety he's given hugging under turret, or advancing when he feels like it. His E gives him more control over lane than his q does in my opinion. If I start going low on health, I stop using e, & just aa, & q. Eventually the minions push up onto my turret, then I start using e till I'm magically under enemy turret getting a few pokes off again.

The only real down-side I see to his kit during game play I hope is eliminated is the delay between moves. I've lost many kills, died many times, or ended up not being able to save a team-mate from death due to clicking q too fast after e or vice-versa. I noticed this happens with his ult as well, & he isn't able to combo too fast, or it just doesn't connect.

It will almost certainly be changed. Maybe not removed but changed to function better with his kit. Although the biggest problem has been described as his Q.

Strawberrycocoa1 votes

I suspect they will. I figure they will either reduce his damage to emphasize his identity as a tanky spammy manaless mage (high durability and low cooldowns to spam sustained damage) or reduce his durability so he is a high damage split-pusher and sustained damage spammer that is fragile if caught but nimble and evasive thanks to his pool.

Personally, I feel like Vlad is a bit too durable and would rather see him made more fragile, but possibly less vulnerable in the early stages to compensate.

wait, he gets AP by building HP? why aren't people building him full tank?

The ratio for HP to AP is significantly lower than the ratio for AP to HP.

In addition, the actives and passives of AP items (i.e. WotA, Rylai, Void Staff, Zhonya's Hourglass) work better with his kit than most defensive items.

Vlad doesn't really have any way of making enemies focus him as a tank either since he has little utility and low damage without AP items.

If he was able to build full tank with the passive he would surely be OP, so be thankful that he can't do that.

However, he can still pull off a semi-tank build with AP, especially flat magic penetration/reduction items like Liandry, Abyssal, Zhonya, Rylai, etc. They offer tankyness while still allowing Vlad to deal relevant damage. My build is usually item 3152 item 3158 item 3116 item 3157 item 3151 item 3001 - I used to build item 3075 but that item sucks now if you don't stack armor.

Spizzle90001 votes

Same fam. I swear if they remove his passive I'll be really upset. Like, if I can't be semi-tanky but have to be up close to deal damage, then Vlad may as well be turned into a burst mage (which doesn't make sense thematically).

Honestly, if they remove his passive and don't compensate for it appropriately, or turn his Q into a skillshot, I'll probably just quit playing Vlad, which would piss me off as he's my main.

MEMEME6701 votes

(which doesn't make sense thematically)

What? Thematically he's a blood mage. Unfortunately, this has very little depth, and in NO way translates into 'not a burst mage'.

Whose to say a blood mage couldn't specialize in simply sucking out all your blood at once? Whose to say it wouldn't be the single most effective technique they could ever use?

Spizzle90001 votes

Perhaps, but he's supposed to be the closest to a vampire LoL will get. In most literature, vampires don't just pounce on their victims and drink their blood and leave them to die; a lot of them (for instance Dracula) will feed off of you slowly and savor the blood.

While it may seem like the most efficient and effective method of draining blood, it doesn't make sense based upon how much he loves what he does and his background. He's a Noxian noble, so while he is brutal and monstrous, he likes to play with his food. You can't relish something that's over in the blink of an eye.

In addition, vampires are known to be hard to kill without specialized methods. Granted that this is because they are undead and Vladimir is not undead, but I think that it makes Vlad's tankyness fit into his theme as a "pseudo-vampire".

Just like you can't usually kill a vampire without crucifixes, wood stakes, or garlic, you can't kill Vladimir without grievous wounds, hard CC, or exploiting his weak early game.

Spizzle90001 votes

Exactly.

MEMEME6701 votes

Perhaps, but he's supposed to be the closest to a vampire LoL will get.

This makes no sense. For one, you don't know that and I don't think you can source it. Secondly, who cares what he's close to? He has an identity. Yorick is close to a necromancer, should he be summoning sekeletons and/or zombies instead of ghouls? Of course not.

it doesn't make sense based upon how much he loves what he does and his background. He's a Noxian noble...

This makes much more sense. However, I would say that being a burst mage and relishing in what you do are not mutually exclusive. Cho'Gath seems to easily fit both traits here. (And Rengar, albeit he isn't a mage, but an assassin, still heavily burst-reliant.)

Spizzle90001 votes

Meh. http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Vladimir/Background I'd suggest going down to the bottom-ish of the page and reading the release announcement for Vladimir. He does have an identity, but there is no doubt that he is at least based off of a vampire and has the obsession with blood of one (although vampires NEED blood I guess).

I suppose, but there's a difference between Cho'Gath and Rengar, and Vladimir. Cho'Gath loves killing people mostly because he is hungry (like Kog'Maw). Rengar is a hunter. Vladimir is a hunter in a way, but he doesn't just kill things to be the best or for the thrill of the hunt or to sate his appetite; Vladimir kills just to kill.

MEMEME6701 votes

Cho doesn't eat because he's hungry. He makes no reference to hunger ever.

If Vlad kills just to kill, why does he care about the thrill? Shouldn't he just care about the killing, and thus do it as efficiently as possible?

Spizzle90001 votes

"Who will be eaten first?" Then there's his joke being "Nom nom nom," and his passive being carnivore and his ultimate feast. He eats his enemies. Not out of being ravenous like Kog'maw, I suppose, but he does eat his enemies.

And because he's sadistic. He likes to watch the blood drain out of his enemies and see them suffer. Plus, if they're trying to make him a pseudo-vampire, he's gotta be at least somewhat difficult to kill. That's part of what makes him so distinct from other mages: he takes more than 3 seconds to do a full combo and kill you (assuming the mages that DO kill you that quickly land everything).

MEMEME6701 votes

Yeah, cho eats people. I'm not sure your point though.

Sure, he's sadistic. But I can find nothing pointing to him preferring to draw it out as opposed to kill them quickly and spectacularly.

And yeah, being somewhat tanky is part of his gameplay identity, so it'll most likely stay. But that doesn't mean he cant also be a burst mage (ala Cho'Gath).

Spizzle90001 votes

Valid point indeed. I dunno, I just kinda guess I associate him with drawn out killing of people because I've played him for a couple years.

MEMEME6701 votes

Eh, that's fair. I honestly think he'll keep his same core gameplay patterns, especially preferring long fights to short ones.

I was just pointing out his lore identity has nothing to do with that, so it's on the table for him to become something like that (if they decide sustain + drawn out fights doesn't really work in a healthy way, for example.)

Meep Man1 votes

I heavily believe it will. It's just a passive stat boost that Vladimir isn't exactly even known heavily for. Adding a better passive and Q are likely key to Riot's plans with Vladimir.

Spizzle90003 votes

I hope not. His Q makes perfect sense thematically, as does his passive. And if they make him a tank/mage rather than his current mage/tank status, Vlad will lose a ton of players. He's one of the few AP bruisers out there, along with Swain, Ryze, and maybe some others I can't think of (arguably Elise and Galio, although I think of Galio as more of a tank).

I would rather they turn him into a straight burst mage than a tank. And that says something, as I'm not a fan of burst mages.

I can't imagine they would make him a tank. He's an AP carry with basically no utility and for another thing, he's ranged. There's basically nothing there that says "I should be a tank", so I wouldn't worry if I were you. Even if they remove his passive or change his Q I'm sure he'll still be a bruiser mage.

Spizzle90001 votes

Good. I love Vlad too much to see him go like Mordekaiser.

Erockandroll1 votes

I would imagine they would keep the scaling. They certainly can balance champions around them, having increased gold effectiveness from certain items. (Assuming they are meant to be strong in the late game.) And doing so really helps them from becoming oppressive, since they some what limit their build options.

That said, there's nothing interesting or interactive with that passive. I would imagine they would add a second effect for his passive, or move his old passive onto one of his core abilities.

Boulderox1 votes

I think they are just naking him so he isn't free damage aoe, or point and click heal
