"here is a brand and riven damage buff"- riot 2016

Cosmic Warper28 votes

When did they say they acknowledge damage creep?

Poske6 votes

Eh dude just ignore the OP

One patch they decide to mostly buff instead of nerfing and he thinks league is under Power creep

LatetotheRace11 votes

Clearly someone here is confused, and it's not the op.

Poske3 votes

elaborate

Or you are just biased and believe that there is a power creep and that power creep is something bad in a first place I play this game for 6-7 years

S1 had most power S2 had less power S3 had less power then s2 s4 had less power then s3 s5 had less power then s4 s6 has less power then s5

Take it from someone who has been reading patch notes since they were called patch notes

Oh and btw power creep is a good thing. Dont let any other stupid video tell you otherwise. It means that we can have more depth in kits

More depth = more fun

Same thing applies to damage creep if you think thats whats confused me

Maybe there were times where tankines went down But damage never went up more then going down in a single patch across all champions

LatetotheRace23 votes

"Oh and btw power creep is a good thing. Dont let any other stupid video tell you otherwise. It means that we can have more depth in kits" Depth... yea.... instagibs are so... deep. I can almost feel the depth of champions who dgaf and simply murder anything that catches their eye. Powercreep is becoming more and more insatiable. Pretty much every change to champions this season (and last) has been to empower the damage creep.

(General) Point 1. Riot insists on releasing new champions that puke damage on targets till they die. Azir Yasuo Illaoi Ekko Whereas these champions all have their own little mechanics, their design in essence is to puke excessive amounts of damage. (And graves.. What the hell was even supposed to be? Mordekaiser mk.2 that never got nerfed into the ground?)

Point 2. Items baby, they're craaaazy. item 3285 and item 3145 update. Then let's not forget tanks being given damage too, item 3748 item 3071 . Let's not forget marksmen, god forbid tanks can tank item 3094 item 3036. Assassins? (AD) item 3156 duel purpose? not even once... item 3147. How about the nice change to item 3078 which served to buff a few key champions who were already strong. Irelia Jax Hecarim.

These are just the basics, as I'm sure you're aware of (mr patchnotes himself over there...). Don't you dare for one second say that "Damage creep isn't increasing, or some bs." It's constantly increasing as riot bows down to the casuals who only want more and more flashy champion with more and more flashy capabilities.

Malphite Q base dmg 300 Scalling 1,0 Malphite R level 1 300 +1.0

This was in season1? Want me to keep going? And malphite was considered balanced back then his shield was on 7 SEC COOLDOWN

You could have built him AD AP TANK it didnt matter everything worked

Power creep = Champion power budget increased

If we had high power budget in league = Ekko would Be AD Champion

One of the main reasons he is Ap chamion is because power budget didnt allow him to be AD

AD champions take more resources power budget in case you dont know

Irelia has been nerfed 568 times Jax has been nerfed dozen of times. There was a time when multiple gunblades was core and gunblade Had 80 ap 75 ad and everything better Hecarim had his damage nerfed couple of times

You can argue that they are using to much OF power budget of champions to give them pure damage but that kinda sounds bullshit because for example

Ekko has slow hard CC mobility heal Escape buttom The fact that all his abilites are delayed is what allows him to have this tbh

Yes Illaoi is all about damage. Riot gave her bunch of delays Hook soul ability for Nichness and a bunch of damage. Are you one of those people who doesnt think illaoi is balanced?

Champion Power budget is weaker compared to season2 None can deny that If you want facts just read last 10 patch notes and compare nerfs with buffs. You ll see 75% of changes are nerfs I would prefer if most were buffs tbh

Now there are creeps in league

League of mobility League of delay League of counterplay League of fairness League of 3hit passsives (None likes this RITO)

But Power budget and damage has been decreased compared to previous season. Simultaniously that happend to tankiness but riot has been mostly nerfing damage rather then tankyness

Download the game Strife. Its a fun Moba Their heroes are like 75% of league of legends champions in terms of power budget

You ll see what I am talking about and why Power budget should be high and why you should want power creep You should also want items nerfed because that means champions get buff. Of course at some point it would get dumb

I have a very distinct opionion but it comes from experience and knowledge

While urs is OH no Keystones CAME POWER CREEP WTF RITO POWER CREEP IS BAD AS I HEARD WHY RITO Meanwhile they halved the number of masteries so that masteries can have like 2x impact

LatetotheRace6 votes

..... What? Section 1: Malphite story was irrelevant to the conversation in pretty much every way. Damage creep =/= power budget. Power budget sounds like a cheap word for "lazy game design" to me. If a champion can do anything you want, it likely has such a vague design it's comparable to that of a minion. (old malphite ironically enough) Section 2: Yea, they've been nerfed but they're still viable as ever. I don't think you even understand your own term "power budget." So let me clarify, it's effectively like the US budget, there's a limit but we try to ignore it. Right now there are a number of champions with budgets so overdrawn you essentially have to brute force close the account to actually deal with them. (Good luck getting them to pay it back too...) Section 3: Mobility, (Delay??), Counterplay, (hehe fairness), 3 hit passives though... (no one btw, two words.)

Mobility = flashy plays = more player attraction = more $$$. It's pretty much that simple. See now, if they released a new urgot/mordekaiser/rammus etc, I'd be all over it, but they seem intent releasing skins for flashy fighters and assassins with some exceptions.

Counterplay. Man, I wish league was a tad bit more diversified in that department. There are several champions that make things excessively difficult to lane against. Whether it be heavy harass coupled with strong/fast wave clear, or it be 100% free and safe harass, there tends to be little to no counterplay. (Especially if you can't counterpick them.) This quite honestly needs to be looked at more than it currently is. (PLEASE introduce more "grounded" applications.)

3-hit passives. Riot made jhin... which is weird because their favorite number is three.... they're just stupid and I think most people agree, so I won't even touch it.

Yet again... power budget, somehow decreasing? In what way? I gave you tons of examples, but you have yet to deliver one... Why?

Section 4: Why would I want to play a crappy MOBA cashout that likely lacks actually meaningful game play which it no doubt just replaces with unbalanced "flash" all over the place.

Please stop using that term.

I suppose I can see where you though I meant only nerf items. How about this then. Destroy tanks options for damage, to the point where tanks do minimal AOE damage but heavy CC. Fighters do high damage with little to no hard CC but make up for it with mobility. Assassins have 0 CC but have extreme burst and mobility, and bruisers have a mix of CC and damage with a small amount of mobility. That and remove keystones, (which are objectively stupid imo, too much free damage. hehe, damage creep though...) make items for finer tuned, and less one fits all. Give marksmen a reason to build item 3087 item 3091 item 3508 again, give items more clear build paths, and reasons why.

"I have a very distinct opionion but it comes from experience and knowledge" Pretty sure you just called me stupid... Interesting sir, very interesting. Well I have my own opinion here but it's unfortunately not appropriate for the boards.

"Meanwhile they halved the number of masteries so that masteries can have like 2x impact" You say this, but I don't think you know how to.... "math"

Good luck with your delusional superiority and lack of comprehension as the game changes around you.

"lazy game design"

I just want to take a moment to ask you about how many games you have designed.

I want to see how much credence you have to determine if something is lazy or not.

LatetotheRace1 votes

No he's pretty spot on here. I am an avid gamer with experience in over 200 games on steam alone. I believe I have some ground to criticize game makers on their decisions, and call them out when they cut corners. Maybe I don't, but if I don't than neither do you have the authority to criticize my critical analysis now do you?

Tobias Brackner1 votes

"I played a game a lot so I know how it's made."

This is what you are saying.

Also I have made wonderfully shitty games so yes I am perfectly aware of when people get lazy. If you had the remotest understand of how bullshit complicated League is, then lazy wouldn't be in your vocabulary to describe it.

[slayer-jinx-wink]

But then again you've played the game a lot, right? So of course people who play the game a lot know what they are doing. That's how we know everything about the human body! We just used it a lot!

LatetotheRace1 votes

Oh you poor fool, it's worse than I thought. Not only do I know how to make games (simple but yes), I know how to make them well. How to prioritize, and actually balance. Not cut corners in an effort to finish quickly (Gotta cash in on those MOBA games though.) Nice try though, your logic is excruciatingly weak as is your argument.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Hey, dude that's good to know! I can't wait to see your next release that's going to blow LoL out of the water.

[slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Nilok9 votes

You don't need to design games to criticize game design, nor do you need to be a painter to criticize art.

Arguing that someone needs to be able to create better art than someone to be critical of it is a fallacy. Having experience in it helps, but isn't a requirement.

DeathBot6661 votes

I think what he's trying to say is that game design isn't as easy as "Lets just lower stats of anything causing damage creep. Problem solved." To me, damage creep is most caused by the amount of damage you can get from some items. However, lets take item 3025 as an example. This item is almost always built on Ezreal, and causes him to be really strong. However, if we were to nerf the item to balance EZ a little, it would affect Malphite, Vi,Nasus, ETC. So in order to make up for that, riot would have to buff certain parts of them, which would lead to them becoming stronger and more viable, and people who get countered by them to become less viable.

The argument can be made for lowering base damage on a champion. For example, Fizz. Right now fizz is a strong, annoying champion who can delete someone in 2 seconds and become invulnerable every 3. However, if they were to nerf him, sure he might become less strong, which would be good, but it would also give rise to much more on fizz's counters since he isn't as strong, which will make the champs who they counter much less viable.

What I'm trying to say is, every change to one thing effects every champion in some way, so you can't just nerf a bunch of things and expect it to work.

Of course he could also mean that since you don't design games you don't know how they work, which is a stupid argument, but I figured I would try to create a counter argument.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

I could mean something else, sport.

[slayer-jinx-wink]

Tobias Brackner1 votes

No...when you are trying to claim that something is "lazy" then you need to have done the thing to understand what is stuff that is "lazy" or "difficult." Hence my statement "I want to see how much credence you have to determine if something is lazy or not."

To be fair you technically can simply know the process required but that also doesn't inform you about the specific complications of the project you are criticizing. For example you could argue that having stretched sprites on a random piece of the world that the player will never see unless they look for it is lazy.

Also he explained how power budget was decreasing in 1 example. You should read someone's argument before you respond to them.

Oh So delusion lets start with Why I mentioned malphite

I MENTIONED MALPHITE TO PROVE THAT CHAMPIONS USED TO HAVE MORE POWER WHETHER THAT BE DMG TANKINESS CC WHATEVER. KAPISH DUDE?

Power budget is A resource. Lets say that all champions in league have Power budget of 20 000 IN season 1 All champions In league had Power budget around 25 000 (Yeah everything was stronger)

Lets take a loot at A Moba called Strife. Hero Power budget compared to LoL is way lower It would be around 13 000 if we assume LOL IS AT 20 000.

And this is why STRIFE IS A TRASH GAME AND IT WILL NEVER SEE SUCCESS. Power BUDGET IS SO LOW THAT HEROES THEN CANNOT BE MADE COOL. Heck they are even nerfing heroes Soon they ll be nothing more then minions

JUST IMAGINE LEAGUE OF LEGENDS WHERE CHAMPIONS COULD HAVE MORE DEPTH. Take a look at a thresh BOX ability which is a disgrace of ultimate. Well if thresh was from season1 HE WOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE A GODAMN NON JOKE OF AN ULTIMATE. But nowdays he cant because all other abilities eat his power budget. Just imagine if all of thresh walls BUMBED back lasted longer and all of them did dmg (Yes we last part)

Thresh would be a more fun of a champ then And He would actually engage with second Q because his follow up would do stuff. Nowdays if you want to engage with thresh YOU never actually GO inside enemy team which is irony since he was designed to do said thing instead of picking of in a blitzcrank style

So this is why I laught at The Words Damage creep and Power creep

If you WANT GODAMN PROOF THAT POWER BUDGET IS Decreasing HOW ABOUT YOU READ ANY GODAMN PATCH NOTE..

LatetotheRace2 votes

"HOW ABOUT YOU READ ANY GODAMN PATCH NOTE" You keep saying this, and I keep reading them. It doesn't make you any less wrong.

Damage creep is only increasing as the intricacy of new champions does. However, at the same time, if riot does not alter old champions it will only continue to rise. Why you may ask? Because for old bland and clanky champions to be able to contend with flashy spazlike champions they need more raw power to be mixed into the pot.

So yea, Damage creep will continue to increase at a dangerous speed, unless riot stops making new champions and remakes old ones to where they're more or less on an even playing field.

Dengeden4 votes

{quoted}

"Oh and btw power creep is a good thing. Dont let any other stupid video tell you otherwise. It means that we can have more depth in kits" Depth... yea.... instagibs are so... deep.

They're not a thing either unless you walked into a skillshot or an ability with a .75s+ cast time.

I can almost feel the depth of champions who dgaf and simply murder anything that catches their eye.

Yes, I long for the days of peace and love where champions weren't trying to kill each other. In all seriousness, too little damage and the game becomes an endless tango of engage-disengage.

Pretty much every change to champions this season (and last) has been to empower the damage creep.

EXCU... oh, you give examples.

(General) Point 1. Riot insists on releasing new champions that puke damage on targets till they die. Azir Yasuo Illaoi Ekko

Can't include Taliyah or Bard because they contradict prove your point? :)

Again, as opposed to what? It's certainly better than burst. In order for them to DPS, "to puke damage", they have to position themselves well or they'll get CC'd or kited. If you don't like champions dying, play 1v0 customs.

And graves.. What the hell was even supposed to be? Mordekaiser mk.2 that never got nerfed into the ground?)

He got nerfed until he was no longer a problem, just like every other champion that gets nerfed.

Point 2. Items baby, they're craaaazy. item 3285

DFG gave CDR, %health damage and a 20% AP damage increase. Gimme a break.

and item 3145 update.

WotA was an item that allowed Vlad and others to puke out damage non-stop.

Then let's not forget tanks being given damage too, item 3748 item 3071

Did you know? Any tank's QWER all do damage. Mostly CC and AoE, I might add.

Let's not forget marksmen, god forbid tanks can tank item 3094 item 3036.

The old LW gave total Ar Pen, it was basically flat Ar Pen vs squishies. And erm sure, that extra AA you get from RFC definitely ramped up damage by a disproportionate amount.

Assassins? (AD) item 3156 duel purpose?

Nothing new, only now they actually have to complete the item as opposed to staying at Hextrinker.

not even once... item 3147.

Niche item with a usually useless passive that's only bought mid-late.

How about the nice change to item 3078 which served to buff a few key champions who were already strong. Irelia Jax Hecarim.

It removed crit from fighter builds because those random crits gave them power they didn't want or need.

These are just the basics, as I'm sure you're aware of (mr patchnotes himself over there...).

Give me... one... set...of...patch...notes... and show me where damage gets increased. Because call me crazy but in any that I can remember, LCS and hated champs get a nerf and underplayed, loved champions get buffed.

Don't you dare for one second say that "Damage creep isn't increasing, or some bs."

Well since I disagree with your examples, I and others will persist in doing so.

It's constantly increasing as riot bows down to the casuals

Like you who think tanks should be low interaction champ that can stand in the middle of a fight without doing anything.

who only want more and more flashy champion with more and more flashy capabilities.

  1. It's a game. What should it be but fun and flashy?

2)They're "flashy" because they achieve what every other champions of their class wants to do in more creative ways. What's wrong with that?

Bladerunner77773 votes

I agree with you but I'm afraid you aren't going to convince many people on the boards: home of the bigots

LatetotheRace5 votes

The worst thing you can typically do is insult the people you disagree with. You can try reason, and that may sway some people, but if you insult them you lose all possible sympathy or open mindedness.

Tobias Brackner2 votes

Most of them are whiners who would rather beg for nerfs than learn how to beat a champ so I feel they could be knocked down a peg or two.

Hell even if insults backfire and they grow a spine to downvote (ooooo so mean) or comment (double mean) then they might even use that newfound spine to figure out how to beat the most recent flavor of the month instead of reverting back to their whining pattern.

LatetotheRace2 votes

Oh, you're that one inflammatory fool who insists on having the worst mindset possible. Tell me, what account are you on at this point? number 3 or 4?

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Ah so you went down the comment route. Hopefully you can be this aggressive in your next match!

Well there have an upvote

Let the boards live in a lie of a power creep. There is not much we can do

I dont feel like Listing The nerfs and buffs of all patches from 2009 because taht would take to much time

But I Would bet 75% of changes to champions are nerfs

LatetotheRace2 votes

When I think of damage creep, I think of this season in particular. (and pre-season of course.) They keep shoving power all over the place without really taking a step back. Keeping power in-check with power isn't often one of the best options. There are plenty of other options, but it feels like riot takes the easy way out more often than not.

Eh dude just ignore the OP

One patch they decide to mostly buff instead of nerfing and he thinks league is under Power creep

It kind of is. If nothing else, rampant and uncontrolled DPS is dominating League. Tanks get shredded in a mere few seconds in 1v1s, despite having incredible amounts of defense, Graves has been pretty much pick/ban since his rework (still unaddressed), and snowballing is at one of its worst point ever (IMHO). The recent turret changes to award more gold to the first turret taken (as well as turrets getting EVEN EASIER to take as of the Mage Update) hasn't helped anything.

Honestly, I think Riot is trying to make games go by too quick, and it's hard to disagree with them after the nightmare Season 5 was for a long time. (Remember Season 5? Games lasted forever and would just end after one teamfight anyway.) However, they're really going too far in the wrong direction, because I can tell the outcome of a game after 5-10 minutes with a ridiculously high accuracy.

Damage across the board needs to be turned down by ~15%-20%.

Bladerunner77774 votes

Tanks get shredded in a mere few seconds in 1v1s,

Good thing tanks aren't designed for 1v1s....

I would hope a category of champions known as "duelists" are good at 1v1s (Fiora, Jax, Irelia, Pantheon, Olaf, etc)

snowballing is at one of its worst point ever

Not true, I would say game pacing is very good currently. Games aren't too short and stompy like the preseason but they aren't ALWAYS 50 minute long games like they were in parts of season 5.

50 minute games are fun every once in a while, but I do not want to invest that much time into EVERY game because it makes losing more frustrating for everyone and probably increases player toxicity.

Damage across the board needs to be turned down by ~15%-20%.

That's a ridiculous suggestion. Burst champions would be absolutely useless and DPS champions would be broken, leading to more 50 minute long games every game

LatetotheRace2 votes

Tanks are designed to soak up damage over prolonged fights, or at the very least survive the initial engage. That's barely happening now if at all.

Snowballing is bad, but it's not last season/pre-season bad.

50 minutes would be fine if we didn't cap out on items at 35-40.

What were to happen if damage were to decrease? Think about it. How would this effect tanks/assassins/supports/marksmen? Assassins would be unable to kill tanks, while being able to kill supports/marksmen with decent wiggelroom. Marksmen would shred supports/fighters while having to take more time to kill tanks, and tanks would get their old job back. Hard peeling by ways of cc, and pulling aggression off of their squishies, Instead of just bursting 2-3k in a teamfight.

Toplane Fencer2 votes

Well an across the board damage nerf is a completely ridiculous and not well thought out suggestion. Like the person above said, burst champions would be much less useful, and you'd need 2 adc's in a team to reliably kill tanks.

As opposed to rampant uncontrolled burst like it used to be. DPS is healthy because it can be stopped at any time.

Tanks get shredded in a mere few seconds in 1v1s, despite having incredible amounts of defense,

Oh no, a tank can't 1v1? How horrible, that's definitely why you play tanks too.

Graves has been pretty much pick/ban since his rework (still unaddressed)

Pfffft. Unaddressed in the sense that you still have to dodge his insanely predictable skill shots, yes. Unaddressed in the sense that he didn't get nerfed? Wut?

and snowballing is at one of its worst point ever (IMHO).

Kinda, sorta, not really, maybe. Understandably, they don't want 20 minute farm lanes. They're boring even if you're the one playing. But there are multiple ways to make a comeback.

However, they're really going too far in the wrong direction, because I can tell the outcome of a game after 5-10 minutes with a ridiculously high accuracy.

Yes, you have an ff@20 mentality, it's nothing new.

Damage across the board needs to be turned down by ~15%-20%.

I think Riot is attempting to force League matches to be shorter. One of the biggest things that the competition often has over League is that their matches don't take 40-60 minutes to play. Just using the most relevant example, your average Overwatch match can last around 4-8 minutes in quickplay and double that in ranked. You can consistently play 2-6 matches of Overwatch in the time it takes to play one game of League.

So far they've got it to the point where the winning team is often decided early on, and then it just becomes a slow push to kill the nexus without messing up. If they actually wanted to make matches faster then they'll start to rework gold income (turret first blood, Rift Herald global gold) and start dropping item prices (Needlessly Large Rod 1600g > 1200g). With all the noise people are making about the RNG factor of the dragons I wouldn't be surprised if Riot brought back the original drake that gave the team more global gold. Elder Drake will probably eventually be made to spawn earlier to give teams more consistent ways of pushing into the enemy base earlier.

I have mixed feelings about trying to change League so dramatically (I've played since early Season 2) but I 100% hate playing League games that last 45-60 minutes while being ahead/behind the entire time. If the average League match was 15-25 minutes I'd probably be playing it more. Snowballing will probably become the norm, but as long as Riot gives the team that's behind windows to help level the field (Rift Herald, gold Drake, bounty) then I could get behind the attempts to make League faster.
