Creating a Distinct Support Class

Most Supports just kind of wander into the roll because...well they arent acd's. I dont really know why. It seems like some form of CC is needed. Its also really nice when they are like sona and they dont need items to be a boss. They also aid the adc in getting early kills.

But they arent really their own class. Most can solo lane just fine. Well ok. I am not happy with that. I think that something called true CC could set supports apart. True CC ignores tenacity and we should let tenacity stack a little higher to accentuate that. Maybe supports could have some mobility in their kits too but like, no damage. That might make Supports fun. Like how long can you stay alive while people target you and you CC them as the only source of hard CC for your team.

So early game CC would be effective, but grow less effective as people start gathering Tenacity Items and true CC in bot lane would remain just as effective. Adc's would be forced to build item 3022, which is currently somewhat awkward idk if thats a good thing but whatevs thats balancing. Remember that tenacity reduces duration of CC. High attack speed on item 3022 results in a perma 35% slow as long as there is an appropriate Max Tenacity Cap. In fact I think that would be a good standard for max tenacity. Its not arbitrary and I wouldnt want item 3022 to be any less effetive than it already is..

And Most importantly, we get a faster paced game at the end.

There is actually a lot of people complaining already about Riot enforcing the meta. And people don't just wander into support, as a support main I picked that role because I wanted to help my team and be a positive force. Supports are already fun, none of this is needed.

I'm actually in the opposite camp. I don't think we should have any "support" characters. Champions that were designed for any other role can fill multiple roles within the current meta, except for supports. I personally think support champions should be reworked to be solo lane viable, and more solo role champions should be allowed to fill the support position.

I mean even the ADC can go top or mid, and sometimes jungle.

Zilean is a support and he works just fine outside of lane.

Braum also can top lane.

Braum is not fantastic in top lane, and Zilean was designed to be a mage, not a support.

I'm talking Sona, Soraka, Taric and the like. Champions who are designed to be a support first and foremost. Their viable solo lane builds are all one trick ponies, where as other picks for the same lane position have far more options. I would just like them to be good enough in solo lanes that picking one in a non-support position didn't get you report threats.

Zileans role is listed as support. His secondary is mage. Just FYI.

Why do you want to take a support to a solo lane.

I think its nice to have a dedicated support. Soraka is one of my fav's at the moment.

Also, I am not sure why you would be against a champion specifically for support. It really makes no sense. You dont have to play this new champion. You saying that there is no variety makes no sense. With 45 champions you have x ammount of variety. Add one dedicated support to those 45 champs and you now have MORE variety. Having more roles=more variety. So...you are for less variety because you want fewer roles.

About Zilly, his tag was changed. Altught right now he is indeed more support (lots of team buff) than mage. He has been played as mage for quite a while tought. Last tournament we saw him solomid I think.

Weren't you the one who talked top-broam? The support-tank?

There has been quite a few dedicated supports actually. Lulu was marketed as a support (ok that one failed), then nami (that one is still mostly support, but like janna saw some midlane), then Thresh, Leona, Braum. The last 3 are definately support dedicated supports. Play them solo and they all loose a big part of their kit.

I didn't say there's no variety, I'm just saying it would be a nice option. I'm just stating my opinion on the matter, not looking for an argument.

Ditto. Just discussing

True CC ignores tenacity. So... knockups? There's already too many coming out recently.

Woook3r1 votes

Good point. Those are kind of weird.

Woook3r1 votes

Although most knock ups dont last as long as viegers stun.

Woook3r1 votes

Oh and silences are entirely different from knockups.

Supports are designed as a class : their "gimmick" is ally buffing/interaction (sona, braum, Thresh, Janna) and CC (in line with ally interraction) and overall non-reliance on items. You'd like a support-only thing? But is there a mage-only thing? or an adconly thing? I guess there is a jungle-only thing... but most champs can be top or jungle. Items are dependant on role, not class.

Some champs like Zilly make into the support ROLE because they just can. Just like ahri was used in a tournament. or like Trist was maybe intended to be ap at a point. Maybe.

Vayne is an adc if she is top or mid or bottom. She is just hella squishy with an amazing passive that synergises with attack speed.

Its so hard to respond to everyone on the new boards. And I am trying to make my poiints without pissing people off. Please be patient.

The support is the only role that cant be flexible. Thats the way it seems to me. They are there to interact with their team's hp (with heals and shields) and their opponents position/capabilities. Not to deal damage. So yea they arent going to be flexible. I am actually ok with this because their roll is so different from any other champion. They protect rather than damage. Its refreshing or something to play soraka after i just played darius. summoner 1 my Palate if you will. Thats a double pun btw.

I just like by bruisers to be difficult to CC. And I thought that if they are immune to CC it would be a problem. There is another problem. Support roles are not distinct like ADC's. Wow it looks like maybe these problems cancel each other out. That is all I am suggesting.

So, what if supports are Available to suppress High MS Juggernaut Brusers. Doesnt mean they are required. Just if someone on the other team likes a bruiser with high tenacity, a support is availible to check that power. To me, that is killing two birds one stone and getting what I want. A high MS bruiser that ignores a great deal of CC. But then there is true CC to give me a challenge. Its balanced.

By the wya, you can press reply to set a quote by the way.

Anyway, 2 thing seem wrong in that comment. First, bruisers already have a certain "resistance" to cc, in that it takes more than a second to burst them (as opposed to adc/mages). Make them harder and you might get back to s2 where a few tanks could get so tanky that they'd just tank a team under the tower while still winning most duels. That is jsut too much power. If they are both fast and tanky and medium-damaging, they they WILL be required.

Second, I find it weird that you say that support are not distinct like ADC. Because to me it seems like it's the opposite. Supports are clearly defined : CC + team-help. They don't kill you, but they'll set it up so that the rest of the team does. There are tons of ways to do that. ADCs are simple and have nothing really identifying them as ADC. They just have range, some means to stay at range and can kill things by building damage. You can't expect an adc to have mobility (Kog), you can't expect him to have burst(Ashe, Ez), you can't expect him to have poke (Kalista?), you can't expect him to have farming (MissFortune). You can, however, expect a support to have CC and some way to help you in offense or defense or stratigically.

Also, by league's design philosophy, a champion that needs another champion to be balanced is NOT balanced. So your idea of a superpowered bruiser that is countered by super-support... It just doesn't work. CC are there for a reason and that is to stop people. You can ignore some but not all. And all champions/cc already have that.
