can we stop with the stupid changes to celerity and address "absolute focus"

SwiftKitten88··49 votes·15,684 views

celerity isn't OP..

the issue with it is the ONLY useful rune in that row. for 90% of champs

the other are 10% who overstack CDR, becuase riot decided that every single class in the game needs 45% cdr for some reason, so that can actaully make use of what would be a wasted stat with a decent amount of efficiency

but "absolute focus" is absolute TRASH.

i mean the precision tree's and the domincation tress gets to choose between if they want a diamond or a ruby or a gold necklace and we get to choose between a 5 dollar bill, a sandwich, and bucket of used grease from a burger joint

unless your currently hungry.. YOUR GOING TO TAKE THE $5

because there ARE no other USEFUL options.

and some champions... not many.. but SOME, NEED celerity to even function.

so why dont u quit it with "oh celerity is broken because its the only good option"

being the ONLY good option does not make u OP. what makes u OP is being OVERPOWERED

when u compare celerity to the runes in other rows and in other tree's is actaulyl much WEAKER than most of them

things like "triumph" and ultimate hunter. these are basic runes that are VERY strong.

the only reason "Celerity" is getting picked. ( outside of the few champs like Hecarim and Nidalee its actually CORE on) ( and im not sure about hec as i dont play him but i assume it would be)

is becuase there ARE no other option in that row

and if you taking Sorcery primary u HAVE to take SOMETHING from that row. and so "celerity" is the "least bad" option.

but being "least bad" doesn't mean u need nerfs.

and believe me.. damage creep is MASSIVE issue in this game, but lets be real here.

if they wanted to address damage creep they could do it in a way that would actually WORK.

if u wanted to get rid of mt rushmore you wouldn't use a pressure washer to erode it.. u would use something more effective.

you would address what have obvious and CLEAR issues of damage creep, like idk Irelia

you wouldn't start by going "oh the game has too much damage, lefts nerf Ivern 's base stats. i mean yeah that's lowering damage but... REALLY?

its going to be the same problem with resolve. do you pick

a) demolish

b) font of life, a rune that is useful for a total of 2 or 3 champions in this game

c) shield bash, a rune that is useful for a total of 2 or 3 champions in this game and most are physically incapable of proccing?

literally everyone is going to take demolish in that row. but ofc thats not where it ends. riot is also trashing overgrowth, so you get the choice between

a) unflinching

b) overgrowth, a rune that is trashed into oblivion for champions who build health

c) revitalize, a rune that may or may not be more useful than unflinching on a handful of champions who have massive inbuilt sustain.

how much do you want to bet theyre going to nerf demolish and unflinching repeatedly through the entire season before they even see the problem?

Shield Bash could get value from Summon Aery? Reminds me of Font of Life can heal your ally, if they bother to attack the target. Maybe they'll buff Font of Life and maybe we'll get more cross player rune combinations.

doesnt matter. you cant trigger summon aeries shield on yourself.

the reality of the situation is, that everyone might be able to find workarounds to trigger it a couple of times over the course of a game by building items with shield actives or having an ally shield yourself. its still not close enough to justify even considering the rune.

but there are champions who can trigger it almost every 4 to 10 seconds because they have a shield built into their own abilities, and those are the only champions the rune is really going to be efficient on, and they are overall very few.

Z3Sleeper5 votes

Given that shield bash scales with shield strength and bonus health, i doubt that Aery's tiny shield is gonna be a major contributor to the effectiveness of this rune. Guardian on the other hand, shows promise.

Illabethe1 votes

Keep in mind almost every major Mage builds HP items.... item 3116 item 3165 item 3151 item 3027 .... some even get item 1401 if they jungle....

I could use this on Sona Karma Morgana Lux easily..... especially Morgana , who can actually proc a MASSIVE shield....., and effectively uses these items. Her base shield alone is up to 350, + 70% AP...... she can make a 1050 Shield.....

I know that's just theory crafting, but it's doable possibilities (Personally on Karma I will still go move speed, although a Liandra's/ROA aren't bad on her, and sometimes I run item 3742 or item 3065 and item 3504 would enhance the shield.....)... And on a move speed build, I also often get item 3100 , so the on hit would be a double whammy, and I could still pull off about 550 AP....

Z3Sleeper1 votes

It's based on the shielded target, not the shielder.

We're talking about Aery here and she can't proc on yourself nor does your shield bash (and shield bash bonus health ratio) proc on Aery's shield to an allied target. The ally can take shield bash to utilize the Aery shield but they won't benefit from your bonus health.

Illabethe1 votes

And I'm talking about specifically Aery USERS. All these champs primarily use Aery. It doesn't matter whether they self proc.

Z3Sleeper1 votes

Your entire comment was literally all about how mages can build beefy health items to bolster Shield Bash's effectiveness WITH AERY.

And my whole comment was dedicated to telling you that it doesn't work that way :)

Illabethe1 votes

Where in my post at all did I mention Aery? Oh Right. I Didn't.

You're most likely using chronological view of the discussion, yes? You responded to him originally and he was offering his opinion on the context of using Aery as a means to allow someone else to utilize Shield Bash.

Your discussion is about your champions using shield bash, period. The fact that they use Aery or not is completely irrelevant (which is why you made this comment). However, if you're not in the 'discussion' mode, your response and logic is irrelevant to the point he is trying to make.

Neither of you are wrong about your points necessarily, but the discussion is about something different than what you are addressing.

Edit: Just to be clear

Your point: Hey, champions who can use Aery can benefit from also taking Shield Bash! They are able to shield themselves and have a lot of bonus health in their builds.

His point: Shield bash procs via receiving Aery's shield are not going to be very impactful. Most of the bonus damage comes from the strength of the shield.

Low range champions like Annie Vayne and melee champions can't take Absolute Focus as they never really stay above 70% health to begin with. They get poked a lot.

Buffing Absolute Focus would be better than nerfing Celerity.

Instead of "above 70%" what about "above 60%"

Z3Sleeper3 votes

Or have the bonus be for 75-100% and then half that amount for 50-74%.

Possibly 80-100% and 60-79% if the previous values are too lenient.

Something that's not purchased until like 4th or 5th item if you're Jinx or Jhin.

Absolute Focus isn't that bad on majority of adcs, but Celerity to kite better is so strong that it doesn't matter.

EROTIC RAID BOSS4 votes

almost no one takes celerity on adcs anymore since it gives so much less move speed now

Spank the Fox4 votes

I wasn’t even aware most ADCs went down Sorcery.

Personally, I’d rather take defenses or free 300g boots.

Infernape2 votes

A lot of them do just for Gathering Storm.

EROTIC RAID BOSS3 votes

Gathering storm is almost mandatory and most pick absolute focus for the second rune, unless they get a ton out of celerity or manaflow (like sivir and ez)

saltran1 votes

Gathering Storm is not an option when you play adc.

EROTIC RAID BOSS4 votes

absolute focus is really good on a lot of champions? like, every adc except ezreal and sivir take it. And so do a bunch of other champs

BoilTheOil4 votes

absolute focus isn't bad

Pixie Storm3 votes

Yeah pretty much celerity is the only way to survive sometimes ._. I agree and didn’t know they were trying to touch any of those runes. Riot should take a look into those 3 specifically and tweak them at the very least.

Absolute focus is good on: Xerath, Lux, Vladimir.

That's...pretty much it actually.

It's really bad.

Also good on several junglers for early clears. I use it on Fiddle because by nature of his W heal he is always full health. Not bad on Veigar either for more AP stacking.

Larriet1 votes

Sona uses all three in that slot well. Free CDR earlier, percent-movespeed boost, and a self-heal means she gets good AP from any of the three.

HeimerLmao5 votes

To be fair, it's also used a lot on Heimer, since Q turrets save the ap they were placed with, so once you place a turret buffed with absolute focus, it stays with the buff, even if you drop below the treshold.

deadlychuck2 votes

It'd probably help to just revert them to raw stats instead of trying to create mechanics which somehow ride a balance between overly effective on some champions and useless on all champions.

SanKakU1 votes

I like Bard Absolute Focus because you can get more out of the healing shrines. Maybe they should add a third tier of healing for his healing shrines(second tier is when the 'dinner is ready' sound goes off) for a higher AP ratio heal(but no additional base healing or a small amount of it).

And apparently marksmen are using Absolute Focus to get more out of item 3095 to burst people down with.

Transcendence is terrible on junglers. You'd rather take the 5 CDR at start of game from inspiration and have 45 end game CDR than get 10 CDR suddenly at level 10. And if you're taking Glacial Augment, Celerity has good synergy with it, so it's hard to justify Transcendence in that case. We need more good Inspiration keystones. Klepto is a pathetic joke and I've never taken the summoner spell swapping keystone. Maybe I should try it sometime. Edit: oh wait, they nerfed Open Spellbook. It no longer reduces summoner spell CDR. I wonder if it's still good or not. Does the keystone itself get reduced by CDR or no? If yes, it might be good still. Otherwise, I don't know if a new spell every 2 minutes is enough to justify its use. I'd rather wait another 45 seconds to use flash than run around without a keystone for 6-20 minutes or so.

saltran1 votes

Adcs take Absolute Focus because they NEED to take Scorcery for Gathering Storm and now that Celerity is nerfed (and more in the future) they take AFocus since its less worthless than the rest of the runes for them.

Velasan1 votes

I'm ok with the celerity changes, and I disagree about focus.

It's really good on artillery mages who don't need the CDR. It is also excellent for junglers because you can remain relatively healthy while clearing, but then it gives free early stats to help clear faster.

With CDR entering stat shards if anything Transcendence is by far the weakest choice and it would be nice if it scaled up to level 10 rather than starting at level 10 (or even 10 minutes into the game like the boots rune).

yeah well the celerity changes wont lower your mains winrate by like 3-5% if they go live, ( not that i will even be playing if this goes live, for that reason)

the extra 8-10 ap nid gets from celerity at lvl 1 from her 30% passive is the only thing that makes her remotely viable. her winrate is going to drop like a rock if she loses that. because her first clear is soo bad already to make it me neigh impossible.

i mean on the bight side this nerf would allow her to actaully be buffed where she NEEDS to be buffed, but this is riot we are talking about... they have had THREE YEARS to do that.. and they havent so.. thats not going to happen... nid is going to be left trash tier for a minimum of 3 months if the celerity changes go live, unless she is buffed elsewhere

feintfiend1 votes

Actually the celerity changes are a nerf for Hecarim, he values the damage conversion more than the speed

Absolute focus pairs well with overheal. The shield from overheal effectively extends the threshold where absolute focus would normally drop off. Additonally anyone who can build some form of sustain can prolong the effects of absolute focus in fights. The bonus stats it grants also highly rewards any player that can position perfectly in teamfights allowing them to maximize DPS.

and that belong in the sorcery tree then... WHY? if its good for ADC's put it in the freaking precision tree.

the sorcery tree is for MAGES and AP champs. NONE of which can USE that.

AP champs dont normally have a way of staying at max hp becuase we don't have a "life steal" or broken shit like item 3812 to keep us topped off. and if we did.. Vladimir would break it..

I think you're missing the point. I literally go into sorcery as a secondary to grab celerity. I think the movespeed is worth it. You're arguing that the reason celerity is picked so much is that the other two aren't good. That's not the case. Absolute focus is very underrated and I love taking some extra cdr to round out a build. The only reason I take celerity over those two is that i think it's too good.

What adaptive Focus needs to be is you gain the bonus when you are BELOW 70% HPS

If you are above what are you adapting to?

Unless you can heal for large amounts you become MUCH weaker when you go below 70%

How stupid is that.

jocomotion1 votes

I say rework it to where you get the bonus AD/AP as long as you haven’t been directly attacked by an enemy for like 5 seconds.

Make it an item that rewards good long to mid range positioning rather than just being topped off on HP.
