A marginal amount of positioning means his only hope of engaging onto you with the active is going to be W > flash > R, or even just W > R. Either way, having him leave both his shadows behind in order to get ontop of you removes a fair portion of his damage, making him noticeably less deadly.

"Walk into the wrong bush, get skull fucked" is part of the game since Riot reworked the vision system.
Xin can do it, Trundle can do it, Nocturne can do it, ADCs can do it, each and every assassin can do it. Zed does not have a monopoly of camping grass and waiting for an unsuspecting squishy to face check, and I'd argue he's far from the best assassin at it.
EDIT:
Flanking, also, is not something Zed has a monopoly on. Assassins are all strong flankers; it's pretty core for what they do. Proper positioning (and intelligent play) can leave Zed eating a stun as soon as he R's and quickly dying, or at least making sure he trades 1 for 1 and doesn't escape.
Penns1 votesIt doesnt say "stand in a brush" tho, you just have to be out of vision and even then it lasts 5 seconds. Fizz has to wait 2 seconds in basically every case and often hit a skillshot first, LB has to wait 1.5s, Zed with Duskblade kills you without ult and instantly hehe

Unless he's banned (not too uncommon) or picked (less common), I play Zed mid. Suffice it to say I play him a fair amount, and while I wouldn't call myself a great Zed, I'd say I'm passable.
Unless fed, Zed doesn't murder delete people without his ulti. Sure, if he gets ontop of a squishy alone and ulties them they're probably dead, but every single assassin in the game - and most divers - can pull out the same victories.
I'm thinking that the solution here is to stop being a shitter, hehe.
