Can Rengar be used as a support (Tankgar)

It has always struck me that Rengar can make a pretty powerful support. Everyone tends to build him the same Glass Cannon way however I have always preferred a more tanky version of Rengar because he already HAS high numbers, even without items on his ambush so he doesn't really need that much more AD.

His Battle Roar makes him such a viable tank and gives him additional resistances, plus in its empowered state, Battle Roar actually can heal Rengar pretty darn well and his bola strike makes an effective disengage or engage tool, especially used with his ultimate.

Has anyone actually tried to take a Rengar as a support, I know its crazy sounding but with his mobility, naturally high damage and building him with a more tanky build, I beleive that he might actually be viable.

Please don't just respond with "You are stupid and a noob and that is "Bronze V" thinking" but please do your best to explain WHY you don't think he would not be able to support please.

I mean, you can win with it. I currently have about a 75% win ratio on Kha'Zix support across gold and platinum. Does that make it good, though? Definitely not. In pre-30, I'm sure you'll be fine playing it, but Rengar just doesn't have the tools to be a proper support. He's easy to cheese with, sure. I'd be willing to bet that you'd often get the first kill of lane, too. But then what? You're forced to lane against at least one changed poke champion and another with heavy crowd control. That bush in bot lane is always going to be warded. You're not going to be surprising anymore.

If this is about playing tank Rengar, just play tank Rengar top or jungle. A while back, the majority of NA thought tank/offtank Rengar was the best Rengar. They were wrong, but it was still playable.

I understand that he would not be viable against most poke supports but I believe he would do well against Braum and Leona type supports, definitely not Janna though. I always am so baffled why people build Rengar with an overload of AD, he doesn't actually need it in my opinion and works well as a bruiser.

Just out of curiosity, why do you think Rengar would be good against Braum and Leona? They can easily keep him off of the ADC and CC lock him to oblivion. If anything, I'd say laning against a champion like Janna, who you an actually kill, would be better. Also, people build Rengar with a ton of AD because they aren't looking to play a balanced bruiser. They want to play an assassin with no counterplay that kills in two hits. That's what full damage Rengar is.

The choice between full damage Rengar and tank/offtank Rengar is "Do I want to play a broken assassin or a sub-par bruiser?"

I dunno, maybe its because I'm British, I actually want to play fairly and have a fun, skill based fight with a champion. Actually killing somebody in 2 hits isn't that appealing to me because its more fun when the enemy can fight back. But I guess I'm wierd. I actually like Rengar as a tank and he is fun to play but not as an assassin.

Tank Rengae used to be amazing, before they nerfed his Q so it no longer did extra damage to towers. Building tank brought down his map pressure significantly so now it's not as good, but it can definitely still work.
