My Gangplank is Missing Something. Can you help?

I've been playing the Jolly Roger a lot lately, and while he still has a late-game surge, it's not quite there. Either my damage isn't super, or i get blown up super fast. I'm not sure if either is supposed to happen, but if you could offer insight, I'd appreciate it. A few things:

  • It's this account so you can check this match history if you prefer.
  • I'm running a Kelpto main tree and experimenting between Sorc and Resolve off specs.
  • For Inspiration I take: Kelpto, Footware, Biscuit, and Cosmic Insight.
  • I've also been leading off with Ancient Coin which doesn't seem to be doctrine but it really helps in terms of picking up lost gold, a mana bonus, and some extra warding. Unless there's a compelling reason to not do this, I really feel like it's a huge difference maker.
  • To boot, between Klepto, Biscuit, Ancient Coin, and Oranges my sustain is ok.
  • My barrels seem to be doing fine, damage wise. My Autos and Parley aren't (imo).
  • Item build below to avoid weird spacing.

item 3047 item 3078 item 3072 item 3095 and lately item 3065 to try to survive.

Well first off remove Bloodthirster from your build, it's not good on GP at all because his attack speed isn't fast enough to keep it charged in team fights. I tend to build a Phantom Dancer or Sterak's Gage as my item after Triforce for damage and AS or Damage and tankiness depending on the matchup.

Yeah I've been getting that impression and I was thinking of switching to item 3074. BT did allow me to solo Elder Dragon, so it's not nothing.

I was taking item 3053 but I don't feel the power surge. Do you notice a difference? And if so, when?

Well, for one, you lack a 6th item. :P

Klepto works, however you don't get as much damage with it (Klepto's purpose is to get you ahead faster, but by itself it doesn't do any additional damage). Grasp makes you more durable, and turns into more damage on your Q and autos. So if you're feeling like your autos and Q aren't hitting very hard, then Grasp will probably help fix that.

Usually, you also see a Ghostblade in his build. And I'm pretty sure Death's Dance is a much better alternative to Bloodthirster for him. Ravenous might also work, although a GP main is probably going to come here and tell me that it's the worst item possible on him.

Phantom Dancer or Sterak's are also usually items you see on him (Even though you won't necessarily buy any other crit, PD still gives you extra damage on Stormrazer's crit, and a lot of extra dueling potential). Deadman's is also an item you see a lot on GP.

Gah! The 6th item! No Wonder...

Thanks, though, I appreciate the feedback. I hadn't thought of Grasp as a damage item given the tree, even though it clearly is. I'm going to try that. Thanks. That might also resolve the need for BT since my survivability should go up.

Your build priorities are 100% lane dependent. If you are against a Bruiser or Assassin you need to complete Tabi's after Sheen, finish your Triforce, then go immediately into a Steraks Gage. From there you build Ghostblade and Stormraiders. 6th item is a flex. Duskblade if you're against a squishy team for more flat pen and damage, Last Whisper item if against a tanky team with a lot of armor, or a Phantom Dancer if you like to duel/split push as GP. Grasp is the absolute best laning Keystone for GP to take against rough matchups. You literally only ever take Klepto against non-abusive lane opponents who you can poke consistently with Q.
