Opinions on maxing Q or E on Nasus?

Lately I have been playing E Max Nasus, I start item 1056 item 2003 x2 for the sustain. I take Grasp and sorcery secondary so i can get manaflow.

What I've noticed:

Pros:

  • No real difficult Match-ups since you can farm from distance with E and not be in any danger.
  • Really easy to farm, often out CSing my opponent by 20-30 CS early on and even more later into the game.
  • Late game you are still Late Game Nasus
  • With proper Mana control you never really have to leave lane
  • No one can freeze the lane against you
  • Very difficult to dive since he can clear any minions almost instantly

Cons:

  • Almost 0 kill pressure
  • Even though you can farm from safety, E has a fairly long CD and mobile champs can engage without any risk
  • If you get camped, you can't push with E and are basically useless
  • Damage is very low unless they fight in the E
  • You don't hit a mid-game powerspike even with Sheen, your spike isn't until actual late game (30 min+)
  • Team thinks you are trolling

So what are your opinions on this and do you find maxing Q to be more successful? Prefer people who have a lot of games on Nasus, but open discussion is open.

Im going to start playing Q Nasus and just see how they compare.

BONUS: What is your opinion on AP Nasus?

EDIT: From what I can tell, the main difference between Q Nasus and E Nasus is when they are strong and when they are weak. Late game obviously both are strong, Q Nasus has the stacks (350+) whereas E Nasus has way more CS and mediocre Q stacks (~250). Mid-game Q Nasus is capable of dueling, E Nasus is not. Early Game E Nasus is way stronger and has almost no bad match-ups while Q Nasus struggles against lane bullies and people freezing the lane.

If you have an rangd opponent, max E so you can poke him too (it deals shit tons at level 4), if you can farm safely (meaning a passive laner, like Mundo), max Q

Personally, I prefer Q max Nasus.

There's also Lane Push/Quas Nasus which is an entirely third thing.

Well generally when you max E you are pushing and trying to take the turret quickly. You aren't really focusing on your Q stacks and your goal is to farm up a massive CS lead and just overpower through levels and gold advantage.

E max Nasus is more of a Early-Mid Game thing, meaning it's probably better in the meta we're currently in.

Q max Nasus is more of a Late Game thing, meaning it isn't that great in the meta we're currently in.

But I still prefer Q over E.

Actually I notice no difference in late game power with either build. With the E i have more cs/gold so i have more items and with Q i just have the stacks. Mid game is about when E falls off and Q picks up.

I am thinking against bad match-ups like Garen, Darius, Teemo the E max is probably the safer way to go because they can't bully you away from minions. Otherwise its probably best to go Q Nasus because if you can stack Q's, you are going to be useful as a damage carry instead of a constant threat.

Q Nasus these days take Klepto to ramp up their gold to get sheen/triforce much faster. E Nasus with item 3303 getting multiple nerfs to screw with your gold income hard is much slower now, and while not being able to take klepto sine you're not autoing the enemy champ

The only really reliable time I'd E first is against Teemo. There's no way you'll be able to damage Garen or Darius enough with their sustain before you go OOM trying to shove. Teemo you can chunk out with his low HP pool and lack of sustain. A lot of other top laners picked now have the sustain and waveclear to survive like Aatrox Camille

even with Q stacks its a long time before you can hurt Garen or Darius, you just push them to turret so they can't be aggressive and can't roam.

Aatrox is actually really easy to deal with as E Nasus since you dodge his first Q then E on him and watch him take 300+ damage trying to hit you with the other Q's. You will never kill him but you can keep him at low Hp or force him out of lane quickly pre-6. After that I think the lane is more of a stalemate. Camille is difficult with either build, her damage is stupid and you never have kill pressure on her thanks to her mobility.

But I agree, Q Nasus is definitely stronger overall. I have not tried taking Klepto yet, I find Grasp invaluable specially since as a Nasus the enemy team doesn't want you farming so you get roamed and ganked a lot. Grasp helps me survive, combined with his Passive, so i don't know how that could work with Klepto.

I mean not really, why do you take Q over E?

his main strength is the stacking on his Q, why tf would you take AP Nasus and not try trolling?

Im not comparing Q Nasus to AP Nasus, maxing your E doesn't mean you go AP. Its called Push Nasus (or Quasus) and for awhile it was the superior Nasus build during a meta when everyone thought he was useless. That is why I am bringing up the question, is Q Nasus now more viable than Push Nasus?

in my experience yes as the spellblade passive item 3100 item 3078 item 3025 basically dominates builds for juggernauts right now.

Ah, the old AP Nasus. An oddly fun and even trolly way of playing him. It sacrifices his late game power by giving him a decent early game. Some people have even brought him mid this way.

But if you want to play Nasus like a Nasus, you do need to max Q first. You need to get as many stacks aas possible and as quickly as possible, and the lower cooldown helps, but if you're maxing E first, you're not going to stack nearly as fast, nor will you secure the last hits as easily. And a big mistake I see Nasus players (who do this) make is that they neglect their stacking, and that's what makes him hit so hard.

But, the general rule is that you want to get a minimum of 300 stacks by 20 minutes. Regardless of how you mx your talents and how much feeding you do, if you can get 300 stacks by 20 minutes, you're in a healthy spot. If you can still reach that mark by maxing E first, then you're doing it right.

I can stack really easily with E max Nasus actually, I get 2 maybe 3 stacks per wave before my E kills them. With 3 levels it kills the ranged minions, so depending on minion aggro you can stack on the melee minions. Plus if there is a cannon minion, you pretty much guarantee a stack on it. But at 20 minutes I generally only have around 150-200, it really depends on how aggressive the enemy is. If they allow me to E the wave then walk up and stack my Q, I can get a decent amount of stacks.

However it is clear that overall Q max Nasus is much stronger by 20-25 minutes if you stacked properly. Late game there isn't much of a difference though, because with E max you have so much more farm and gold.

It depends on the matchup. There is no reason to not go Q max if you are against someone with no early kill pressure or poke. The only time that I think E max would be better is if you know from the start that you won't be able to stack against something like Teemo who will blind you every time you go for a stack or Olaf who will use his E every time you get close and then just kill you.

Recently played a couple of mid AP Nasus, honestly so much more fun that boring old stack Nasus then getting kited and CCed to death by an ADC. Walk up to the ADC from more than their Auto distance away and create a massive zone of death on them, do it again in a few seconds. In concentrated fight it's even better. Wave clear is easy and if any dives melee on you, Ult that watch them slowly die.

If you play E max top it's more about pushing isn't it? Don't really do that.

So here’s the thing. You max E but you still focus on getting stacks by prioritizing cannons. I have been going summon Aery with Inspiration secondary. Start dark seal and refillable. Summoners take flash and ignite. This gives you early kill pressure. First back buy a Doran’s Ring and Sheen if you can. You are now a hybrid damage threat that the enemy can not properly itemize against. You can see my last 2 games if you don’t believe me.

TP is pretty worthless anymore due to its nerfs.

E levelup quasus was a thing when we still had runes and talent trees and could out trade anyone in top lane then just lane push all game with item 3512 .

Now the runes reworked aren't as good for E spam, on top of his R buff which lets you nonstop Q while you're ulting, so the Q got immensely stronger. If you don't have a ton of stacks then you're gimping your R and lifesteal as well.

You can still lane shove well enough with E, just dont expect to be a raid boss anymore
