He's trying to say that they should be mutually exclusive.

They're all unique passives...?????

I believe (may be wrong) that OP is saying they should all be the same unique passive, so no BC+LW.

I dunno. If someone has both Cleaver and a LW item in their build, they're sacrificing utility and sustain so they can shred. I don't really see anyone do it so it's not really that big of an issue imo.

I'd argue that team wide shred + movement speed and grievous wounds is plenty of utility.

Cleaver gives 20% CDR and LW upgrades into Mortal Reminder, which applies grievous wounds on ALL physical damage. That's a ton of utility right there and it's quite easy to fit sustain in there. Nearly every AD caster stacks penetration, which is probably what OP is frustrated about.

Different items. One stacks armor shred for the whole team, one is armor shred for an individual.

People don't usually build both, unless the enemy team goes heavy armor, which is the point of allowing these items to mix. Maybe if the pros adopted some BC/LW combo that was played every game would it be looked at, but otherwise, it's a rare sight and not all that effective anyways.

Lucian buys both every game

So that you can decimate squishies and tanks without sacrificing anything.

BC decimates low armor champs too. It's not bonus armor, its total armor shred.

The difference between cutting down 250 armor and cutting down 60 armor is massive. The armor shred isn't worth it for squishies for what you're buying it for. It works on all, as it should (Why should squishies be allowed to keep all their base armor just because they're not tanks?), but much worse against squishies.

The only way I can think of to make this work in a way that isn't just arbitrarily making the two unable to coexist in the same build (like the two Hydras, only here it wouldn't make any real sense because BC is significantly different from the LW upgrades) would be to make LW and its upgrades only apply the penetration to your basic attacks and have it scale the way Lethality does (as in, increases based on the target's level).

Essentially making LW and crew focused on letting the hyper-scaling AD/AS auto-attackers chew through tanks late-game_(which is what they're supposed to do, mind you)_, while Black Cleaver remains the go-to option for AD casters.

Just a thought.
