@xypherous, can Sterak's gage get an upgrade soon?
Much like the touted hexdrinker of season's past, I think Sterak's gage needs an upgrade item to remain relevant late game.
I say this because I've been trying to theory craft many different builds and items that can combo with Sterak's gage, and the end result is pretty much always the same: There simply isn't enough room in builds for another bargin bin discount item. We already have thornmail as a bargin bin discount item, and soon we'll have Omen coming in at 2700 gold. There's already dead man's and sunfire. Even SV is a bargin bin discount item post-nerf.
Sterak's is a bargin bin discount item for champions that want to end-game. Jax, Irelia, etc. It's not going to be built first, that would make no sense. It wouldn't be build second, since BotRK or a resist item make too much sense to compliment your first item trinity (which is obviously the better item.) What's more is due to level scalings a huge chunk of your damage is hidden away at levels 13+, making building an item that boosts base damage second a questionable choice. WORSE YET is that it's a clear team fight item but the champions that build trinity it aren't known for wanting to get hit.
I think you should consider makng an upgrade for Sterak's that builds out of a chain vest that gives it armor, damage, health, and base damage. Call it "Late game bruiser fantasy" and let us love it. Right now it's the same as hexdrinker was in season 2, an item that is gold efficient but not space efficient, and doesn't really fit in to many builds. Bruisers have so many bargin bin discount items thrown at them that another just doesn't make sense.
