Why are most pros so ugly?

Kovah·4/8/2017, 4:36:25 AM·12 votes·9,379 views

I understand you look how you look, but how come almost all of them are in terrible shape. Either look like they are starving and can barely move their own body, or they are overweight and look like they can barely move their own body. If you want people to take esports seriously dont look so disgusting. I'm not trying to just be a dick for no reason, I want to see esports exceed. But its just amazing how none of them think "huh, I look EXACTLY how people think I would look if I told them I play professional video games".

It also doesnt send a good message. If pros took the time to take care of themselves, it would inspire other gamers to do the same. When you are young, and your idol is great at games AND takes care of themselves, it will motivate you to do the same. But when they see their favorite star on and they look like garbage, it just gives them no reason to want to take care of themselves.

TLDR: If you are a pro gamer, eat some healthy food and workout. It's good for esports. If you don't, you give gamers a bad name.

Edit: Too many people getting offended. You are all missing the point. If you cannot rationalize a response, don't even bother.

Feel like you looked at like 2 ppl and got the wrong idea lol Here's basically the most popular NA teams.

If you're overweight, it's going to effect you negatively because the game demands alot at that level. You can't just look at extreme outliers.

They can scrim and do shit with their team for like ~8 hours a day. I don't really blame them for not spending all their free time working out lol

Are you asking why they don't look like models, sports stars, and actors? Because it's not part of their job to be fit and look amazing. They are paid to play a game, not working their body or image.

Do have statistics for this, or did you see one pro player who's not and shape and instantly just make the generalization?

Boi I understand your point.

When you spend all day playing video games you don't look great

That's rather petty topic. What are you expecting? Well fit, overexercised studs who look like proper poster boys for the cover of sports fitness catalog?

but how come almost all of them are in terrible shape. Either look like they are starving and can barely move their own body, or they are overweight and look like they can barely move their own body.

Okay since the topic is all on pro gamers, I'm gonna comfortably and (frantically) go across the spectrum. First of all, think to yourself as a gamer. Saying "almost all of them" is such bull and an insult. Where's your point of reference? That's just an amount you're blowing out of proportion. Numerous people across League, DOTA, CSGO, and the FGC actually look suitable on stage camera, regardless of putting hours behind the screen. And there's just a bigger target on all of those groups of gamers outside of League: they're always on the move month after month to get to tournaments and events! So what kind of terrible shape are you really getting at?

If you want people to take esports seriously dont look so disgusting. I'm not trying to just be a dick for no reason, I want to see esports exceed. But its just amazing how none of them think "huh, I look EXACTLY how people think I would look if I told them I play professional video games".

Esports is not judged by the way an individual looks. If you put a bit of research into it, major networks and sites look more to the accolades of a player, team, or organization over how he/she/they look in front of a camera. If they didn't, then please tell me what is Faker to the image of League esports?

It's fans who decide to eat that up and make such ridiculous posts like this or those periodic "feminist" threads with no substance and just some gutless opinion about what is actually proper to them. That stuff gets looked down upon quite often, especially in League.

Frankly you succeeded in coming off the wrong way even if given no reason. You're basically saying a pro player with a lazy eye or just outright acne or a disturbing face would be considered a setback on esports success (Bjergsen for League, Magisk for CSGO, Justin Wong for the FGC; I know there are worse). You're saying age is an issue, which pretty much throws all kinds of shade at the icons of the fighting game scene. That's not the case! I can already bet that you'll find a way to defend even one of those examples. And if you do then you already contradict your point.

It also doesnt send a good message.

For who?! You as the fan? Players don't get picked up or sponsored for the way they look. And if that's the case, I'm very surprised that a player like Tusin was picked up for Afreeca Freecs. Or even JWong (and Ricki) staying with EG for so long. His good message was his looks right? If looks were the make or break, they'd all be kicked because it's not representing of a good image right?

If pros took the time to take care of themselves, it would inspire other gamers to do the same. When you are young, and your idol is great at games AND takes care of themselves, it will motivate you to do the same. But when they see their favorite star on and they look like garbage, it just gives them no reason to want to take care of themselves.

While that may be true, only using that as the form of hero worship only makes you out as a complete imitator, which gives you personally no identity for yourself. Matt to Madlife. Player to Doublelift, Alex Valle, Universe, Simple, Armada, etc. See something about that? I could watch Krepo or Aphromoo all I want but I'm not really intending to pick up their mannerisms nor solely be inspired by them.

TL:DR - Pro gamers are doing exactly what they aspired to do for a living, whether short or long or even based off of how they look. Your facts are flawed and even you know it.

Lol not everyone needs to look like Tyler1 dude. These people play video games for a living, and their own personal health is their own decision that has pretty much no effect on their ability to play.

PhDs Nuts4/30/2017, 5:07:33 AM1 votes

Which pros are you even talking about? lol. Most of them are perfectly average. A lot of them are fit.

The reason why most of the are so skinny is because they cant fit eating and gaming on the same schedule. Their goal is to play as much as possible, and having to go out to make/buy food is a whole game taken away from the. Working out (I workout 1 hour a day) is about 1 to 2 games taken away from me. So all those games add up, and they wouldnt be good anymore.

As for the overweight ones, odds are they just have a slow metabolism.

I just wish Dyrus would get new glasses, and at least clean himself up or fix his hair for his stream..

There are players that look like they can barely pick up a pencil without breaking their arms, not to mention they're pale as f$ck.
Most of these comments can be contributed to playing the game for so long so they tend to not go outside or do anything but play games 24/7. They don't really eat real food unless a cook fixes it for them and if the cook doesn't cook for the players they don't know how to fix a freaking meal for themselves, and if they don't eat real food they eat snack foods, aka junk food which makes you fat and if it doesn't make you fat it makes you eat more because you're not getting the right proteins etc in your body so it bloats you in the long run, it's also easier to eat a candy bar than it is to fix a meal if your'e playing a game or putting your time in doing so. These players aren't 15 year old kids anymore some are 25 years old and they act and seem like 15 year old's, some if not all can't cook, some can't even buy their own cloths because they don't know what size clothes they have(?)

On a sidenote teams are putting some attention to this with getting their own personal trainers so the players can work out and be healthy to some degree. Look at Svenskeren that dude was pretty big and now he's slimmed down and looking great(no homo) Hauntzer is pretty ripped for his size, Bjergsen still needs to put down the 5lbs but overall it's a slow process. Playing in the pro scene does put some negative to some of this. For example Rekkles started smoking cigs around season 4( 2014) put thankfully quit after Worlds. Some players do smoke cigs to ease the burden of maybe hate comments etc and I don't blame them, I mean look at what random solo Q players say and what tole that takes to random people their constantly on the " gameplay or behavior boards" talking about suicide etc.
