Mid is NOT a Golden Ticket to get Your Role

Placing mid as your secondary role does not guarantee you your primary role and when you don't get your primary role, whining about how you cannot mid at all only makes the champ select process a very frustrating and uncomfortable experience for all involved.

It pretty much guarantees your primary, more so than any other secondary role.

I understand your point, but it won't change anything. If for some reason Support became the role with the longest wait times, players would be using it as their secondary to give themselves the best shot at getting their primary.

With mid as secondary, the added benefit is that a lot of people are willing to trade roles for mid

Zerenza1 votes

Yeah i mean i place it as my secondary for that reason but i also do actually play mid since thats one of my two main roles so if you ever get put mid and want to trade by all means i'm fkin open guys xD

Rorana1 votes

I just dodge if i get mid, only way i am getting adc is if i go adc/mid cause I only play adc or support =(

Warlord Zudane1 votes

I put bot/supp because there's a chance you will match up with someone doing supp as first pick.

Warlord Zudane1 votes

Unless you have a team with 2 supports, an adc, a top and a jungler and nobody on the team is familiar with mid.

Kinetika2 votes

I suppose anything can happen chief. But statistics would support a very small probability of no one in the queue being willing to trade for mid. Also, that's kind of a rabbit trail...what really matters is that most people queue up with mid as their secondary role, and as such, they further increase the demand for mid, making your primary role choice far more likely to occur.

I suppose as a Mid primary, I don't understand risking a secondary role you can't handle. I select Bot as my secondary because, if I don't get Mid, I want to at least be in a position where I won't be an immediate detriment to my team (you reeeeally don't want me in the Jungle).

If you're going to select Mid as your secondary JUST so you "have a better shot of getting your main", then learn a few safe mid champs and play conservatively.

Dreadlocks1 votes

and i suck everywhere except jungle at my elo, so putting mid helps me get jungle, if I get mid, then oh well, ima suck just as much as if I got any other position, but at least I increased my chances of getting jungle when doing so. :)

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

Just learn a safe mid-laner and do what you can to help your team.

Personally, I would recommend Lux. Her utility, waveclear and burst damage are exceptional and she is pretty much always a safe pick.

Drugoth1 votes

Orianna is better than Lux in terms of safe picks because you can scout with your ball. And CSing with her passive is real easy.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

I find that Orianna is a bit more difficult to get right and requires more practice.

Lux seems more forgiving for someone who only occasionally plays the role.

Besides, both of your arguments can be used for Lux too. Her E provides vision and can be used for scouting in the mid- and late-game (with greater range) and her passive makes last-hitting targets pretty easy.

Drugoth1 votes

I dunno I find Lux harder personally. Although you bring up valid points I prefer Orianna for her team fighting.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

Ah. I've always preferred sieging and used to main Ziggs, so Lux suits my playstyle more.

Orianna is someone I've always wanted to pick up, but I find I have trouble adjusting to the range of her Q. I can get away with playing her rather supporty (shielding the initiator, protecting allies), but I'm not quite good enough at laning with her.

Drugoth1 votes

Ziggs is real cool too. Once you get used to Orianna's ranges she becomes a total lane bully. Melee champions have an especially hard time laning against her early because you can guarantee a hit with your Q because they have to go melee range to last hit. Also, her W is a lot more flexible than people think, it can be used both offensively and defensively. Also it's pretty awesome that her E also hurts people the ball travels through so you can Q just past them, W, then immediately E for some real easy poke.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

Yeah, I haven't played her in a while and I'm just recently picking up mid-lane again.

I just have to practice her more.

She can be a right terror in the right hands. Both in Mid and as a Support.

So true, but I can swear that Orianna "sings" that line sometimes when she's talking in game.

wait what. Orianna was around first.

I must have forgotten the "/s".... Thought that was implied.

Looks like you favor early gank-happy assassin types in the jungle. Mid assassins that roam and top all in brawlers might suit you just fine as a secondary.

Dreadlocks1 votes

Yeah but in my personal experience, you have to know what you are doing to pull those champions off. Not saying I can't do it in lower ranks, but because my experience in the jungle far outweighs that of mid/top, i don't think i can play my off role champs at the same level as someone who mains mid/top.

Yes, and no one realistically (ragers don't count) expects you to, that's why it's your off role. When I play ranked, I say I'm a decent Mid (for my tier) and an adequate Bot (meaning I won't feed, but I won't dominate either). Sometimes, that's all you need. Make it easy for your team to carry you when you're on your off role.

Yeah i wish it worked out that way lol.

Absolutely nothing wrong with farming up.

NineTailedMystic1 votes

It's extremely boring when the lane is just "Waveclear: The Lane". Champions get nerfed for being uninteractive ya know.

It Hertz When IP1 votes

No one's saying it's an exciting matchup, but Morgana offers a decent strategy; she discourages the enemy mid from roaming by threat of dumping an entire minion wave on his tower every minute or so. Conversely, if you dodge her Q, she has no way outside her ult of sticking damage to you, making her vulnerable to being harassed.

screw morgana im still trying to find a mid laner i can beat her with consistently.

NineTailedMystic1 votes

Morg is hell for Ahri. Shove shove shove so Ahri can't roam well, can't all in because of Black Shield, Snare means death or stopping an all-in even harder.

It Hertz When IP1 votes

Doesn't Talon shit all over her, too?

Mazariamonti1 votes

Well if he gets fed then I guess, but you can basically just ult when he goes in on you and the tether will reveal his location whether he's invisible or not. It's a less than ideal matchup for him.

It Hertz When IP1 votes

It does negate his stealth, but he can still juke her Q like normal. So long as he waits to go in until her ult is down, he's good.

Alternately (spitballing, I've never seen a Talon-Morg matchup and don't play Talon) he could go in without abilities, wait for her ult, flash out, ult himself, then go all in. It'd only work when Flash was up, though.

Mazariamonti1 votes

There's definitely room for talon to make some plays to get an advantage, but in general it's up to the Morgana to make a mistake either by using q within range of his gap closer or by taking too much unnecessary damage from talon when trying to farm. Talon 'can' win (it's happened to me one or two times) but in general it should be easy for the Morgana to push the talon in to prevent him from roaming while also having all the tools available to counter talon if/when he decides to get aggressive.

Sammystorm1 votes

As a mid main I consistently put top as my secondary because it gets me a better chance of getting mid. If I put jungle, which I am better at, I get jungle most of the time. It is depressing to me because I have to wait forever for mid lane.

TequilaZombie4 votes

To be honest, it sorta is.

Also, finding someone to trade their roles for mid is much easier than finding someone willing to change to any other roles.

Meep Man4 votes

On the other hand, do you realize how frustrating it is to try and consistently get to play Middle? It's damn near impossible.

Amelie1 votes

True that... aren't mid lane mains getting screwed over by everyone putting mid as secondary?

Draven Wun Trick4 votes

i do support/mid and i never get mid. mid as secondary gets your primary role. CONFIRMED

Drugoth4 votes

Wait, isn't mid the most contested role? Wouldn't you be more likely to get any other role than mid when you choose mid secondary?

LateCustomer2 votes

{quoted}

Wait, isn't mid the most contested role? Wouldn't you be more likely to get any other role than mid when you choose mid secondary?

Yes. This is why players choose it as their Secondary, theorising that because it's so contested, they will more than likely get their primary so the game doesn't spend too long looking for slots to fill.

Radnar the bold3 votes

So here's my issue, I only choose mid as my secondary, mostly because I don't want to be auto filled into ADC or Jungler. I could do support, but I know I will get support every time if I do so. The issue is that people that solo lane or even solo q, would rather have a position like mid or top. Also some people that play top are also good at playing mid or vice versa.

Aeszarck2 votes

It's a bronze ticket to get your role.

Lirik2 votes

i always put mid as my secondary and ever since i never got mid sooo yeah its a nice golden ticket to get top or jungle thanks rito

oh !! and yeah don't forget something very important if i ever have to get mid.. i will simply ask for a trade off i bet the 4 other players would like to have it.

It Hertz When IP1 votes

Usually works, sometimes doesn't. Easier to just pick up a few of the dumb-easy midlaners (Morg, Lux, Heim, Urgot) and be ready to take mid if necessary.

38501575_DEL2 votes

So long as it's not mid, it is.

ThePartyLeader1 votes

I wonder how the system would work if people actually queued as they should instead of trying to game the system.

DarkRitual2 votes

A lot better, but people got tired of playing support every game when they picked "fill"
