Thoughts on Hunter's Potion?

LaughingStapler··7 votes·1,578 views

I've played mostly junglers who don't need Sustain beyond an upgraded Machete so I haven't considered the 400g Hunter's Potion. With Fiddlesticks, I don't even buy a pot and get a pink instead. Anyway, my point is that because my junglers never need it after first back and aren't too mana constrained either, I have no experience with it.

Lately, I've been trying Wu'Kong and had some problems both in terms of clear speed, mana and losing more HP than I'd like. Is Hunter's Potion worth it on him and on what other jgs would you suggest it if any? Is it a noob trap, secret OP or just average? I've found that it resolved my sustain issues on Wu'Kong but I could have gotten some AD instead and reached a completed item faster. Since it's not like I'm playing Devourer Wu'Kong, I think it's probably worth the sacrifice.

BTW: I really hope it's not OP in any way because I've become really dependent on it for Wu'Kong and also made it so the route I take gives me the exact 250g to complete it from refillable. Any variation in price would screw up everything. If it is OP somehow, then I want to work on alternate strategies now instead of tying the viability of a jungler to it.

It's good on junglers with high clear speeds but low natural sustain. Think junglers like Amumu Hecarim Sejuani Udyr Vi MonkeyKing

amumu shouldnt be in there, i get out of jungle full hp with a pot left on amumu (going from 3 health potions)

I don't agree with amumu, vi, and udyr. Amumu and Vi are my go to junglers, I don't have sustain issues after the first clear, if that; you can do a full clear on Vi with 3 pots and her passive. Udyr's turtle stance gives him great sustain, he as actually the jungler I went to when so many champs were having sustain issues a while back (last year?). Evelynn might be in that list, I actually don't know how her sustain is past first clear

Udyr Don't even need pots if you're using turtle stance right.

if you ask me, you waste money.Let's be practical here. A jungle should aply pressure on his first route, which means that i start eiher 3 pots or refilable.Going this item will limit my early pressure because i am forced to buy the refillable. Why would i buy the upgraded potion? If you need more sustain, complete your jungle item..Also, you should just learn to do camps smart;)..taking less dmg from the monsters, knowing how to do this, will help alot.I really think that this item it's for noobs that don;t know how to clear, or on really bad jungler, that has terrible clear time

Wu'Kong

What the....

Anyway I play a lot of jungle Evelynn and Hunter's Potion is absolutely necessary..... fortunately, most people consider Hunter's Potion to be absolute garbage (GOOD) which means it is more likely to get a buff than a nerf.

One of my higher ELO friends told me that it's probably fine but if a champion actually needs more sustain than Machete and Talisman, they are probably a bad jungler to begin with so you're just putting a band aid on the problem.

Imo Hunter's potion is garbage and would need to give some form of bonus damage to jungle or sthg, that makes clearing faster, else sustain is easily done with item 1041 +item 1039 (on top of the fact those grant exp and hunter's potion doesn't)

I haven't had sustain issues past the first clear on the junglers I play (Vi, Amumu, Shyvana). I might buy one or two more potions throughout the game, but I find refillable potion just isn't good enough for first clear, and I don't really need it after, so I just stick with potions

Hunters pot is mainly for the mana back.. Sure you get some health back which is a good bonus. What I've noticed with hunters pot is that if you're a jungler that splits or is just mana hungry it helps a lot. It also allows you to give your mid laner a blue buff. I think it's a great buy on many junglers.

It's okay? Not ideal on any of the champs I play, but it's okay.

Hunter's pot is easy sustain so you don't have to back after every team engage, since it is easy to generate charges and there's no reason not to consume them.

That said, most decent junglers can handle their shit with the 3 initial health pots, and maybe 1 or 2 pots after their first back, which is about half the initial investment of hunter's, meaning it usually isn't worth it to buy Hunter's IMO.

If Hunter's provided more health return, or cost like 300 gold, then it'd probably be worth it in most situations, but as it stands, in most situations, it's just a shitty gold-sink item that takes up valuable inventory space.

Hunter's isn't awful but I don't personally think its good either. I've never played Wukong before so I can't really give you any advice on that particular subject, but in general, I've found that I've never actually needed to upgrade from refillable (and this is with junglers like Sej and Amumu). I can clear just fine and the passive mana regen in the jungle gives me enough mana regen. The problem with Hunter's is that it doesn't give you anything later into the game and you're just going to end up selling it for something else. You're better off sinking 200 g into 4 more pots or something.

I've actually heard that it's better to take 3 pots on Wukong rather than refillable just because it gives you so much more sustain for your first clear than refillable.

the cool thing about it is that. it doesn't give a lot of health. but it keeps you healthy from camp to camp as it automatically gives you the charge if your full on it. but. i dont like the fact that it gives less health than the refillable.

My opinion on it is that if you can get through your first clear with a Refillable and have Mana as a resource you might as well just pick it up because worse case scenario it keeps you topped off pretty much all the time if your clearing consistently and makes it so you never have to buy a pot again...

ehh I dont like wasting gold on it instead of completeling the jungle item, I dont know the lack of exp and gold is just too much of a price to pay imo

Honestly I like it on almost all junglers.
