Varus's Passive Should Proc Off Allied Deaths Instead of Enemies

Would make more sense being the Arrow of Retribution.

Retribution: punishment inflicted on someone as vengeance for a wrong or criminal act.

New Passive!

Living Vengeance

  • On the death of a nearby allied unit, Varus gains a stack of Living Vengeance. Upon reaching 3 stacks, his next basic attack grants 20% bonus attack speed for 3 seconds. On the death of a nearby allied champion, Varus gains 40% attack speed for 6 seconds. These bonuses do not stack with themselves.

  • (Any Living Vengeance stacks gained will not be consumed during the 40% attack speed buff and can still accumulate during it.)

How close he has to be to a slain unit and how many stacks he needs are variable numbers.

This all shifts him more towards "defensive and vengeance-based" from his current "offensive and snowball-based", which is a very overused concept/mechanic in the marksmen role.

There'd also be an animation where the bow lights up for a moment whenever a unit dies near him.

VENGEANCE! RETRIBUTION!

I'd assume this would include minions (oc) but I'm not a fan. He's in a fine spot right now and either way I don't find the passive useful either way. I like the help early game with farm but having a passive that's required to have an enemy to proc it. That's iffy.

Yup! Changed it up to say simply "death of a nearby allied unit".

It's not so much that it requires an enemy to proc it moreso it rewards you for having allies that take the hit for you and allows you to enact vengeance for their deaths.

And it really shouldn't change the early game farm that much, it'll be relatively the same.

This all shifts him more towards "defensive and vengeance-based" from his current "offensive and snowball-based", which is a very overused concept/mechanic in the marksmen role. Whether or not that's to be desired varies on individual opinion.

Shush, if stuff made sense, Kalista wouldn't save teammates with her ult.

Eh.

I really can't get behind this. Varus is pretty even right now: good damage, low mobility, insane poke.

+1 for creativity, but there's not much sense in fouling up a perfectly fine kit because it doesn't square with his subtitle like you want it to.

Varus is the arrow of retribution because he did his duty, and when all his people were killed, he accepted a slow and painful death in exchange for the means to get revenge. As he kills, he is emboldened to kill more. Effective combat tool, but "Bloodshed always carries a price," and he paid for it with his soul. And his mobility.
