Rito keeps lowering effectiveness of AP items, and they wonder they get AP Assassins building tank?

Over course of years, almost all AP items got either their cost efficiency, or their slot efficiency severely reduced. If you gut AP item pool, at certain point buying tank items becomes more efficient. That simple.

First indication that something is wrong was midlane domination - the item was strictly superior to anything a mage could rush, even though they couldn't utilize it at it's full potential.

Now, many AP champions got buffs to compensate, right, but this doesn't change the fact that if you can avoid building AP items, you most likely should. If your kit is strong enough to function with weak AP items, it will most likely be even stronger with powerful tank and bruiser items.

The thing about FQC before they reworked it, was that it was simply too good rather than other things being bad. It game AP, mana, gold over time, gold for hitting people, an active that gave a defense/poke against enemies.

And it gave a hefty amount of all of that.

I think the idea was, Their should be more to building a mage (or Assassin) than just Raw AP. Which is part of the reason why the high AP items got nerfed, but many of the mid ranged items got improved. (Nashor's, Crystal scepter, etc)

Also, I've yet to be convinced that an Assassin building tank items, in Necessarily a bad thing. (Except maybe for the fact that the Assassination theme is really frustrating to balance) But the thing that gets me is the generality of AP Assassins building tank. It works on Ekko because of his utility (also, it's not actually a new thing,) Fizz, can pull it off because of his on hit damage (and Bruiser fizz was also a thing, not just something that popped up.) and both of those champs have fighter as secondary classes. (But if you know anyone who says Tank Le'blanc is a thing, let me know.)
