what is the point in playing outside of the meta?

all you do by playing someone outside of the fla$hy s1ck lc$ plays meta is run the risk of having someone on the enemy team pick them. you can say that sure, there are champions that can beat said meta champs. but even then sometimes its still a huge challenge just because of how overloaded and stupidly strong their kits are. a smart lee sin gets free harass and escapes with high damage CC, almost no counter play to that. a good yasuo literally crits through your 250 armor like its nothing, akali wrecks post 6 even with vision wards, azir is an extremely overbearing lane bully, and these picks pretty much nullify 60% of the picks you can go with in the game. not to mention item 3135 item 3035 item 3071 item 3151 push tanks completely out of the meta altogether. it's now all about super high dps champions, and everything else is left to rot.

also, wtf is with all of the manaless champions strength right now. its like you nerfed mana regen just so people pick what is obviously the only GOOD choices left. i,e Zed Yasuo Gnar Akali Riven LeeSin Tryndamere. i'd say all of them save for yasuo are EXTREMELY strong right now and a nightmare to lane/play against due to overloaded/bs kits. the only reason yasuo isn't as op as them is because he's had a lot gutted from his kit since launch. but gnar, zed, and lee sin have tons of safe harass, akali becomes a god after 6 regardless of skill level, and tryndamere gets massive lane advantage as soon as he gets fury.

riven doesn't even need explanation because come on. she's pretty god damned strong in all areas of the game.

To be perfectly fair, there are champions not considered to be part of the meta that share traits of perfectly meta champions.

Master Yi, for example, is a powerful mid laner in the right hands due to his ability to cancel abilities (Q), negate damage (W), and in general win trades (P+E). Not only this however, but his engage range is the same as other melee champions (600 spell units), he doesn't fall off as hard as other mid laners come late game, and can easily fit either role of dedicated Assassin or full Carry.

I realize this may not be what your post is about, as this is more about mislabeled champions or undiscovered ones, but there isn't anything wrong with playing outside the meta if you know what you're doing. You can be Master Yi mid, a powerful alternative to the popular meta. You can go duo top solo bot to snowball your duo top laners if your bot laner can defend themself/their tower well on their own. There are a host of really "Out there" Junglers that people are afraid of using because they are so afraid of the new Jungle (Like Shen, who takes almost no damage in the Jungle, but people are generally turned off by many tanks apparently being weak-ish in the Jungle right now).

Sometimes a challenge is fun within reason and personal perspective.

Yeah, Liandry's is pushing tanks out of the meta.

That 50 AP and 2% current hp per second burn is really making tanks unviable, what with all those AP champs constantly picking this up.
