Question about the new WOTA

Normally i'd test this out on my own but bots are bad for testing since they suck.

Anyway, the thing i'm curious about is how the new WOTA isn't counted as Spell Vamp anymore

So on someone like Brand who does a huge amount of damage in AoE abilities would he benefit from this

or someone like Veigar who does massive amounts of damage with his W (or ult for that matter) that can nuke super hard would he benefit from it?

(or hell even teemo)

Note: Yes I know there are better items for these champs this is just something that came across my mind as I looked at the item

It just seems like it'd be fun to have or come in handy in some situations.

I'm pretty sure WOTA only gives like 40% of the benefit from AoE spells as far as healing

it's 1/3 effectiveness on AOE, DOT, and Multitarget abilities. So instead of 15% of damage dealt, it's 5%.

Brand's abilities being AOE make WOTA kind of pointless. Morgana has 20% spell vamp as her passive, but if you check at the end of the game, even when she does huge amounts of damage she tends to heal less than the support. Brand with WOTA would be in a similar position. Let's say his ult base damage is 600 or so. (totally making this up). Since it is AOE WOTA's effectiveness is reduced by 1/3, and he would get back a whopping 30 health.

That is why there has been talk of changing morganas passive -most her damage is AOE and that makes her passive pretty irrelevant in fights out of lane.

In general spell vamp (or true spell vamp in the case of WOTA) on mages works best with mages who have single target spells like akali. Otherwise brand is just buying lane sustain that won't help him much in teamfights.

Generally Spell Vamp should only be applied in abise situations such as Vladimir, Akali, and possibly Mordekaiser. Theres generally a better item to buy without getting the extra healing. Brand doesnt benefit enough from it to get too much. I'm not sure though. You could be onto something with Brand's passive or soemthing.

Jax Poppy can still rock item 3146

It still follows the basic rules of spellvamp though, in that it is reduced when it is multitarget, AOE, or Damage over time, so for these champions, it would probably not be a good idea.

Btw, if you are playing Kennen and you get WoTA but do not get Abyssal when facing 3 magic damage threats, I will flame the shit out of you. Same applies to Nami (ARAM), and then both of them proceeded to build Rylai's as their next item (different games). Made me so salty. WoTA is good on almost nobody right now. Vlad can use it and he is the ONLY champion who should always get it, but any other champion should avoid the item unless in niche situations. Ryze is actually a good contender for WoTA, but again it isn't core on him. The reason he can use it effectively is that he gets single target spellvamp and AOE spellvamp from using one ability (Q and W are both single target and you receive the spellvamp from the ability and the AOE when you use your ULT) AND he has highly spammable abilities. Cassiopeia is another champion who can use Spell Vamp due to her spammable E (single target = full spellvamp). Basically things you want to look for in a champion that could use WoTA is a single target spammable spell and existing survivability in decent HP values, shields, or invulnerability.
