This afk system is flawed!

I just lose a game because my teammate afk's mid game and some idiot blurts out that she's afk in all chat so I take a loss. The very next game, someone is afk for the enemy team, but they DC early, so they restart the game. Basically the same thing just happened to me on each team, but only I lost LP. If Riot acknowledges that I shouldn't lose LP to afks if its early in the game, then why the hell can't I not lose some even if its later on?
