It doesn't matter than "No one asked for Maokai and Zac reworks"

They didn't update them because the crappy gameplay boards community wanted them, they pretty much clearly-stated that they did it because Zac and Maokai were too generalized and did too much, so they try to give them more of an identity to do one specific thing. All-around champions that have it all aren't a great thing to have.

Honestly, all you people do is complain about every change that gets put forth even if you don't even play said champion. League is never going back to the way it was in season 2, sorry kiddos. Wipe those tears now and be happy that Riot is actually trying to address the issues you do have with the new kits, such as fixing AP Support Mao and giving Zac more disruption power.

Hell, they're even nerfing Lee, Ahri and Caitlyn for you.

Zac is still generalized. Nothing really changed there, his animations just got more fancy and his ult a little worse (harder). Maokai lost everything that made him a vanguard tank vs a peely warden. Instead of making him the 'aoe defense' tank that he could have been he is now the ap cc bot with 0 defense steroids or teamfight sustain.

nah now mao is just a raid boss with a ton of cc and self healing

How does Maokai losing AoE damage reduction and gaining AoE CC or Zac losing AoE CC and gaining a Blitz pull make them less generalized and more specialized?

Well, they updated Maokai because he was a generalist.

They updated Zac because they felt his gameplay didn't properly fit his gooman fantasy.

But I agree with you.

When people say that "no one asked for these champions to be updated" they usually are saying that...

  • There are numerous other champions that were in a far worse spot balance/game health wise, so why update Zac, Maokai and Sejuani

  • How many people ever really complained about these champions in the first place? Were these really top priorities given everything else going on?

  • What pressing matters from a game health and balance perspective were left on the back burner while these, seemingly unnecessary changes went through?

  • It really seemed like Zac was balanced before, his winrate, pickrate and banrate were all certainly acceptable, he seemed to be fairly specialized as a hard engage type of tank with a unique playstyle.

  • Did these changes really meet the stated goals? Maokai went from a tank to a mage/support, Sejuani is ostensibly an auto-win (although maybe after the nerfs not-so-much but even so her kit seems far more Malzaharish in that it is nearly impossible to balance without it either being totally broken overtuned or patheticly weak.

  • Change for the sake of change doesn't really help improve gameplay and only serves to aggravate the playerbase. You don't exactly need to go to Harvard Business school to know that.
