Can we allow Olaf to keep his bonus resists when ulting now

HateDaddy··86 votes·4,279 views

I mean honestly, its silly that he loses them. Especially when Orianna can give that same amount of bonus armor/mr on a non ultimate ability while LCSbigPlay ulting you with utility damage.

I really like Olaf jungle at the moment, he sustains insanely well, clears really fast but dies to sand when he presses R. You guys have given every ranged champion escapes galore, made another abomination that invalidates melees in Azir and we know resists don't really mean much anyway because lol muh wast lisper and vag staff.

Give the viking his resists back.

All in favor, say aye

Aye

And remember, I said Nasus jungle would be tier 1 before nightblue and oddone, praise me, love me and most importantly, give me riot points please.

Fine, Olaf gets his resists back in his ultimate... In a COMPLETELY unrelated change however, his base stats have been reduced by twice the amount of resist he would get from Ult

Are you retarded? His base stats got nerfed acoss the board with his rework for worthless AS steroids on his W and scaling on his E, scaling he can't even use because he would instantly die if built all damage or even exceeded one damage item.

So in order to keep 10/20/30 bonus MR and Armor during his ult, a champion who currently isn't viable and all around considered bad has to get nerfed again? Right

God damn adc players

It's a joke referring to recent changes to champions involving giving them infinite or high scaling bonus stats on abilities and passives to make them "hypercarries" but then nerfing their base stats by the same amount or more than they would gain from them so they have a "weak early".

Calm yo tits.

honestly his ult is pathetic.. like you said, Ori's shield ability is comparable and MORGANA's spellshield is so much better than his ult... because it not only negates the effect but takes away the damage with a much lower cool down.

Aye!

I love how Olaf was reworked just to be left in a bad state.

Seriously, Riot shouldn't have stopped working on Olaf until he was a fine balanced state, but you know how they don't care about anything else besides their flashy and popular champions.

no. that relationship between the damage olaf takes and the damage his opponents take is essential to his theme. if you want to play a champion that doesn't get damage boosts for riding closer to death you can pick a champ from about 90% of the rest of the cast.

Except he doesn't actually get a damage boost, he gets a dps increase due to his passive and his W gives AS for some reason as well. His counterplay is being kited, which is still possible even with his ult. And his theme doesn't change considering he didn't originally lose his bonus resistances when ulting. In fact, hes the only champion in this game who gets punished for using his ult. Counterplay, son.

blitzcrank loses his passive static shocks galio, warwick, katarina, xerath, and malzahar all effectively cc themselves quinn loses her range mundo spends health most champions use mana that could have been spent on other skills and skills that involve mobility thus allow for champions to use it to put themselves into worse danger if they misjudge a situation

having a downside to casting a spell is not some crazy unusual thing.

serpensortia18 votes

Also Trist and Lee can save the enemy by knocking them away at low health :P

Using ults in the wrong situation makes it not as useful, but Olaf's ult is only useful while fighting enemies, but that's also when his passive resists are most useful.

7ha7guy7774 votes

Except he doesn't actually get a damage boost

his ult increases his AD which boosts the damage on his autos, axes, and reckless swings. thematically it makes sense for him to lose the resistances when he goes berserk. provided he can actually catch up to an enemy and keep hitting them, the extra 40/60/80 AD will make up for the loss of 10/20/30 AR/MR

Sire Hippington7 votes

In that case, he would also need a good ms-boost during ult, so he can actually make use off the ad. RIght now, u need to aktivate ult far before reaching the target to get the cc-ignore in time, which usually leaves u serveral seconds with low defense in which u just try to reach the target while eating all the damage. And if the target than got a dash, ur screwed anyway.

Olafs kit works perfectly to destroy other melees, but in any real clash, he simply sucks.

How exactly does one kite a ghosting ulting olaf?

One doesn't....

Therefor, the only actual counter is to kill him before he kills you. Poppy essentially has the same problem, when she ults, the only thing that can be done is to kill her first. Except in poppy's situation, only 1 person can kill her... Guess there's a reason they said they would axe poppy the second she ever sees competitive play.

Lucian, trist, kalestia, all have no issue kitting oalf ghosted. plus you start wall jumping then olaf is even more unless.

TerminatusOmega8 votes

and adding onto DPS increase, dps is absolute crap compared to the current CC+ burst meta. you literally have a melee with no gap closer and a crappy slow that has restrictions (minimal range). you have champs that has so much mobility built into their kit + the summoner spells and MS items.

The original Olaf would have done well in this meta...he only got gutted because riot buffed his core items to hell and back(BC, mogs, and etc)

Lets name a champions strengths while blatantly ignoring their weaknesses directly and in directly.

And lets also say a champion with no mobility who is supposed to juggle a skillshot constantly to keep within range of someone is somehow supposed to be simultaneously auto attacking target perfectly. In theory, sounds cool. In reality aka league of mobility, its damn near impossible.

You should stay away from balance discussions, do yourself that favor.

Also to the guy saying olafs ult gives AD, you are right - i was mistaken because I thought you were referring to his passive, not his ult. But nevertheless, a melee, an immobile melee at that, should be rewarded for landing and chaining his skillshot to get into melee range and not automatically punished for said event happens.

And righteous glory is a buff to Olaf, but lets realize he sacrifices another defense or offensive item for this, meaning loses out on defense because flat health with low armor values is begging to be shredded by BoRk + LW and no damage means he hes likely just going to die without doing much.

Sire Hippington3 votes

U need the cc-remove once people start to throw stuff at u. U want the extra damage once ur in melee range(which already is a discrepancy in usecase) U definitly want to have ur defense up once people throw stuff at you, and u usually want to have defense once ur in melee range, cause that also means your in range of what ever your enemy got.

Ults like Katas or WWs usually have clear cases when it's wise to use them and when it's dumb, but for Olaf it's always both, as in any scenario where he wants to ult, he would also want the def-stats

KidKaiser3 votes

u forget. Ori's all "skillshot" meaning you can dodge all her spells ! so she gets to have AoE utility w/ damage!

and our frontline Brother doesnt get his resistances. pretty nice logic right thur

A well geared Olaf is a huge pain to face. Even without his bonuses, if he built somewhat tanky he isn't going to die anytime soon without them.

Losing those resistances don't cause him problems. Although if he is behind he is punished harder for using his ult. Maybe something to make jungle/lane a little more survivable? Although I feel it's too early in the preseason to judge that.

TerminatusOmega4 votes

how is it too early? hes been in a very very crappy state since the fat dude who mained vi and yasou did the "rework" on him while spewing "hurrdurr counter play"

all he did was slap on more attack speed and called it a day after gutting the original viking.

Sire Hippington2 votes

good that we have so much tank items that grant ms... Either u go with yomuuns/botrk for speed, but then u are squishy and explode in a matter of sec, ot u go tanky and have no mobillity

Legostrike1 votes

The answer on Olaf is both, in my experience. I like starting bursty and building healthy. My item build used to go Lifesteal/heath/lifesteal/health/lifesteal/health/lifesteal before they did the trink and I realized Olaf was a bad toplaner. I may pick him up again and do a different route with the same concept.

I think Olaf needs a rework (at least of his ultimate). He's a champion whose constantly a problem because of his kit, kind of like Poppy (but not quite as bad).

The fact that his ultimate gives him complete immunity and he can have unlimited slows just offers very little counter play, so statistically Riot has to keep him weak to compensate.

I'd rather they rework it into something a bit more interesting, then give Olaf some power back.

He has counterplay, dont eat axes, focus him down and kill him. Its actually pretty straight forward.

Really going to play the "dodge his skill shots" card as counter play? Please.

Also, when he's in ult and throwing them 2 feet over and over on top of you, there's zero room to dodge.

When Olaf is strong (look for some early Season 3 LCS games when was was being picked) he's this unstoppable monster that is basically like, "Well if I can't flash over a wall I'm dead."

With his current kit he cannot be powerful in my eyes, just like Poppy with her ridiculous ultimate (but to a lesser degree, as I said).

Yes dodging a skillshot is counterplay and its interestin gameplay in itself

Here what you do: olaf throws the axe, as an immobile you sidestep it before it lands and walk away from it going left or right, forcing him to reposition when picking it up instead of walking in a straight line. And if you are mobile, use your dash to avoid it. You and your team now kite back, focus him and kill him. Thats counterplay, thats gameplay and thats feasible and realistic ways of playing against him. It really is that simple.

Coming from someone who I remember spamming the old forums with "Nerf Nidalee" threads (a quick google search confirmed) I find it pretty funny that NOW dodging skill shots is counter play to you. Must only be when its convenient for a champion that you do like.

That aside, you still ignore my point that when he is on top of you, it is no longer a skill shot anymore but something he can essentially point and click on to you, then pick up and cast almost immediately again while he's stuck on you. Combine that with his immunity to all CC during ultimate, and to me it's a no brainer on why he can't be strong statistically with his current kit -- any kind of champion who relies on range/cc can do absolutely nothing against him, it's the definition of no counter play.

You can argue and get all the up votes you want, but I'm happy at least Riot seems to agree with me -- seeing how they decreased his stats hard after watching a few LCS games of Olaf barreling into the enemy team and winning 1v3's where the enemy team could do absolutely nothing about it.

I don't like any champion to not be viable, but I agree on keeping Olaf's stat power low until his kit can be reworked to have more counter play to it.

Well... to his defense... many character can sidestep the throwing axes with dashes. You can buy Anti-slow boots (Boots of Swiftness if I recall) if you keep eating them.

It's pretty easy to counter play actually...

Hatedaddude.

If Riot just buffs Olaf like that, why would they nerf the ADC class/buff the others ?

The whole fighter class has been significantly weakened while ADCs received a massive undeserved buff in 4.10

Pitting Olaf against other fighters I think he's fine, ADCs should be nerfed to actually need supports once again.

I honestly think he only does well vs other melees because they have all been nerfed to shit as well.

Part of Olafs problem is adc class yes but his issue is bigger than that. Hes supposed to go ham but he gets punished for it, which is silly. He shouldn't lose his resists, ignoring CC is cool and unique but its already at the expense of being completely immobile. He can honestly have those resists and still not be game breaking.

Unless I missed something, no. He was already reworked. His rework was not very good honestly, but he still has some strengths.

I think they should rework this ultimate again, he should keep his bonus arm/mr during ultimate, and get a bonus on-hit damage buff (true damage or %hp damage etc) at the cost of his %current hp. It would put an use of all this bonus AS and reinforce his moment when he is low hp but hit fast and hit hard.

PurpleKingCrazy1 votes

Would have been more cool if he actually gets damage reduction to his ultimate though, considering that his ultimate loses the resists in exchange for damage reduction. I would say I would give about 5%/15%/30% damage reduction to late game

Maybe he could become a better tank.... who knows?
