C'mon, you're going to buff Darius, Pyke, and JANNA?? before the bear gets some love? I'm calling foul.

The volibear meta a few patches ago was not enjoyable at all lol. He's still viable if you know what you're doing -M5 Voli
Volibear "meta" never happened. He was good within the meta. He never defined it or pushed anyone else out. He's not good, either; a sub-2% pick rate with zero high elo or competitive presence isn't a strong champion.
cant get buffed, he needs a rework, not a buff.
the issue he is is with damage creep as strong as it is, and ad champ you can just kill him through his passive
Why Voli? Dude just runs at your face, spams AA & still does a ton of damage with his %HP W.
Volibear doesn't have % damage and W stops hurting after you buy a Chain Vest.
Better gut
then since he does the spam AA better without having to worry about being kited. Or
or

why tf does pyke need a buff??
Sure. Let's buff the bland as fuck statcheck who just runs at you and hits you until you die, while doing absolutely nothing you can actually avoid without simply not being in his range, instead of the champions who not only have actual counterplay besides "Just kite them lul", but are also statistically weak.
your mastery of empty buzzwords is impressive
Okay. So are you actually going to refute my statement, or just say it's "empty buzzwords"?
"o-oh gee Rick this immobile, kitable melee champion with backloaded damage isn't also entirely melee range skillshots? that seems OP, rick! w-what about muh counterplay, Rick? There's no skillshot babysitting me to step to the left!"
volibear loses short trades and can't stick to anyone who outranges him or has more mobility unless he uses his Q and E to intercept dashes and blinks. His backloaded steroid and bite combined with its high cooldown mean that almost anyone can take chunks off of him before he has any damage of his own to respond with, he's piss easy to shove the lane in on because he can't push wave without a Tiamat, he has a telegraphed engage and can easily be kited by even other melee champions as long as they have any form of ranged CC themselves, which 90% of them will.
"just kite him lol" Excellent insight, conveniently ignoring that being easily kited and peeled is one of the biggest counterplays in the game, because League of Legends isn't an empty, 1v1 vacuum at any point in time except for a jungle invade. Almost as good as complaining about stat checks in a game that is entirely dictated by its stats. That one never gets old.
So the only counterplay is to have a higher movement speed/more dashes than him?
So...he's a statcheck, then. You need a stat to be higher than his, or you lose. That's the actual definition of a statcheck.
Volibear needing to time his E to interrupt the plethora of instant dashes to have a chance at winning the lane is a stat check?
By your own standards a massive chunk of champions are stat checks. Most fighters, most marksmen and a good chunk of assassins. And yet, plenty of them are perfectly fine and not considered problematic. (almost like it is a buzzword specifically for champions you don't like, lol)
Are you...are you actually joking?
You might as well say that Nasus isn't a statcheck because he needs to time his Q/W, or that Fiddle isn't one because he needs to time his Q for the middle of the enemy's combo.
ebin strawmen
Volibear isn't a stat check if his ability to win isn't coming from his stats. I know that's hard for you to accept because Volibear steamrolls players at the ELO you're in, but it's the truth.
Okay...Except POTENTIALLY having to time a single ability with one of theirs doesn't stop you from being a statcheck.
Volibear gets into range, or he doesn't. This process takes zero skill on the effort of Voli, and there is nothing an opponent can do to stop it that they couldn't do to a minion. Voli has nothing to land and nothing able to be dodged or waited out that puts him in range. He either has enough MS to get in range, or the opponent has enough MS/mobility to keep him out of range. It's not like Leona where you can just dodge something and then she can't really get to you unless you choose to fight her. No real outplay potential here.
For fighting, he has a passive that automatically kicks in at 30% health thats just regen (meaning the only outplay/timing possible here is igniting at 30% health); a Q that is just a MS boost and AA steroid+Singed E. It's all self-targeted, so the only "aiming" here is him right-clicking, and there's nothing to outplay him with that's not champ-specific; his W is Jax's passive as a passive, plus a point and click source of damage, again, no way to outplay him that isn't "don't be in melee range"; his E is just an AoE damage+minor CC, with the only real "skill" here being using it while they're dashing or in the air to deal more damage, meaning the only "counterplay" to it is not being in melee range. Now, his ult, then? Is this where all the non-point and click stuff was hidden? Let's see:
ACTIVE: Volibear deals magic damage to up to 8 nearby enemies.
Afterwards, for 12 seconds, Volibear's basic attacks deal the same damage as bonus magic damage that bounces to up to 7 nearby unaffected enemies.
Oh. It's a
that's been slightly tweaked. Undodgeable, doesn't really need to be timed that well (given how generous the time on it is), and just...exists. Only real counterplay to it is staying away for those 12 seconds.
So, to count, we have:
And the only way to avoid any of his damage? Not being in his melee range. The only way to beat him in melee range? Have better stats.
Again, that's the exact definition of a statcheck.
Two. There are 2 spells he times to interrupt movement and or combos.
You beat him in melee range as Riven or Irelia by not getting your shit interrupted. Most champs can reliably duel, harass or all in Volibear unless he is good enough at using Q and E to stuff their damage and get his own out.
This is how he wins most of his lanes. A stat check is a vacuum situation and in most real stat checks Volibear will lose, especially against the complaint magnets like Trynd, Riven, Irelia etc who flatly have better stats or superior built in survivability.
Volibear passive is countered by itself being spread over 6 seconds. You beat it by bursting him. He beats that by avoiding the burst.
Voli Q is telegraphed; there is clear coubterplay if he's using it offensively, even for melee champions bar a tiny handful like Mord and Illaoi. He isn't ghosted and kiting through the wave works universally.
Voli W is back loaded both on the steroid and the nuke. You beat it by taking short trades; if he is keeping W up in the wave then he is pushing and making himself less safe. Clear counterplay.
E's value is greatly diminished of you haven't stopped a dash, especially one attached with CC like Pantheon's or Riven third Q.
Voli R is a stat stick on a lengthy timer. Every second he isn't hitting something is a second his ult is wasted. It only sticks and gets used at maximum efficiency if he has already outplayed you using Q or E. Getting in melee against ranged champions is his main outplay; keeping mobile melees from getting away and or disrupting important parts of the combo is the other.
It only becomes a stat check if you decide to AFK right on top of him and make no effort to play around anything ever - or you picked Trundle. Further there is absolutely 0 issue with stat stick spells and the skillshots you fetish so much have cobsistently generated far more problem champions than the ones I enjoy playing.
