Another lie about the game.

Niyumi··4 votes·1,671 views

Quoted from the article Riot just put out

"While your choice of champion definitely has an effect on your success in game, we try hard to keep League from being won or lost at champion select. The decisions you make in game should have a much greater impact on whether you win or lose than which champion you choose."

Yet, barring major skill differences, I can tell which team is going to win in champ select just about every time. I can tell which jungler is going to be overall stronger with faster, healthier clears and better ganks / objective control, I can tell which bot lane is going to be a feed lane, I can tell which mid laner is going to be stronger, I can tell which top lane is going to win, I can tell which team has a better teamfight... put it all together, you can almost always tell which team is going to win before the game even starts.

And then we look at the fact that you balance champions both around how much money they make in LC$ (Lee, Ori, Viktor, etc.) and the spotlight (Sej, etc.)...

Yeah, I just don't see how that isn't a lie.

Have you ever considered that maybe going into a match already intent on losing may have an effect on the outcome?

champ picks often make or break the game

Because I grew up learning to expect more out of people / companies, but I'm constantly let down.

TyrekGoldenspear2 votes

Because for some bizarre reason you expect a F2P business model to follow the P2P business model to a T. It doesn't work that way.

Niyumi1 votes

For some bizarre reason, I figured everyone worshiping F2P would have a good reason for it. But, no, it's just a bunch of greedy fucking assholes (who honestly need to be slapped) extorting kids and whales for their money.

Yeah, I know it doesn't work like it used to. The concept of quality died off a while ago, and no one really cares about what they do anymore so long as they make money.

TyrekGoldenspear2 votes

You are truly clueless. What is worse, you act like you're the supreme intelligence and nobody can question you, because truly the old P2P way reigned supreme.

Let me spell it out for you.

FREE TO PLAY DOES NOT WORK THE SAME WAY AS PAY TO PLAY.

Why?

Several reasons. Let's take League.

Do you honestly expect League to ship the way it was the day it was first released (when they still bothered to make CD cases for the game), and still last to this day?

The balance issues that were in Season 1 would still exist, no changing them. The meta would truly be stale. But hey, you paid for the game upfront, so it must be okay.

Get this in your head. Nobody forces you to pay for squat. You by your own volition, buy skins and cosmetics. Don't go around blaming Riot for expecting to get paid for doing their blasted job.

And guess what? This game is F2P because it is under constant development. If this game was an upfront payment, tell me the motivation for ever adding anything to the game. You ship it, it sells, great. Make a new game to get more money.

And don't you dare say that P2P was always quality oriented. Because this exists: https://www.google.com/search?q=North+American+video+game+crash+of+1983&oq=North+American+video+game+crash+of+1983&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i60.132j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Do you know what this is? This is the ugly side of the P2P model you're so uppity about. This was in 1983, mind you, the so-called golden age of society before it went to crap. Companies made crap games to make the upfront money, then make another crap game and repeat. The video game recession that followed destroyed video games for nearly an entire generation. But no, the F2P model is truly the greedy one.

The F2P model has the advantage of earning your loyalty first, then you get money. Plenty of people can jump on the game, then jump off without a dime spent.

Get this very clear. Greed exists everywhere and it has always existed. I don't give a flying Twitch if you don't like the F2P model, but don't you dare insist that the P2P way is perfect and what all should aspire to when the P2P side has a very visible dark side as well.

Niyumi1 votes

Mmk, first.

P2P = You buy the game (sometimes not), and pay a subscription to continue playing.

F2P = No upfront purchase or subscription, optional purchases in-game.

B2P = Pay upfront, it's yours. In an online game, this is supported by a cash shop. (This is the model you're talking about)

{quoted}

And don't you dare say that P2P was always quality oriented. Because this exists:

Yeah, that exists. But, the same garbage companies we have now (EA, Activision, Riot (after Tencent sellout), Nintendo (after Iwata died), Ubisoft, and so on) are the ones that caused that crash. People with the same mindset and ideals.

If you really want me to, I can go find articles talking about how Nintendo turned down business deals that would have been MASSIVELY profitable but went against their principles. I can show you articles talking about SEGA and Capcom doing the same thing too.

Thing is, those bad companies all died off. The good ones survived. Now we have a lot more bad companies springing up because bratty kids enabled shitty companies and that's the norm now. Even the good companies are beginning to die off, since they just can't compete.

It's the same thing that's happening now. Morons are where the money's at, and the companies targeted those morons. Eventually they develop an IQ point or two and realize they're being scammed, and then these greedy companies have to put in effort or die out.

Thing is, F2P is DESIGNED to make money. Developers love it because they put less money and effort into the game but get a far, far higher payout than any other model.

Get this very clear. Greed exists everywhere and it has always existed. I don't give a flying Twitch if you don't like the F2P model, but don't you dare insist that the P2P way is perfect and what all should aspire to when the P2P side has a very visible dark side as well.

Greed definitely exists everywhere, but we used to keep greed out of the industry. We expected quality and passion, not shitty cash grabs.

I can say for certainty that Nintendo was one of the greatest companies not only because of their games, but because of how they ran their company. They ACTUALLY CARED ABOUT WHAT THEY WERE DOING, and put all they had into what they did. They turned down big business deals to stick to what they believed was right, and they actually gave a fuck about the consumer base beyond how much money they were willing to throw at their games.

I can guarantee that WoW, FF11 and GW1 were dramatically better than any garbage we have now, and I can guarantee the developers put in more effort and cared more about their products -- because the only way they made money was if their product was good enough to make people want to subscribe.

Thing is, when F2P just started to become a thing, everyone was laughing at it. We knew it was a big cash grab, and everyone knew to avoid F2P games like the plague. Then comes the gimme generation, and they throw all kinds of money at shitty companies, enabling them to get to where they are now.

But, I will still say that P2P and B2P were better, and that F2P companies should just stop existing or actually put in effort (which none of them will).

See, here's the thing: I do well almost every game. I stomp my laner and everyone else in the game. But the rest of my team is about as intelligent as a stick or a pile of rocks, and can't figure out what to do with the lead I gave them, proceed to feed their asses off, and lose the game for me.

Or, situation 2, where I play passive against a really snowbally champ I can't fight, and starve them for gold. In the process of doing this, my other lanes feed 10 kills each, and there's just nothing I can do at the end of the game.

So it really doesn't matter what the fuck I do, since I'm forced to rely on four other morons.

Aquafuge2 votes

then why not try to educate, talk to them about playing passive, or changing things up by swapping lanes. there is always something that can be done to help. Maybe they won't listen but I find that most players who feed just need guidance, and if they are starting to tilt are actually willing to listen.

Because he is not very intelligent and expects the game to change to accommodate him. He doesn't feel he should have to learn or change how he plays, and when his efforts fail there is obviously something wrong with the game, rather than something wrong with how he played. He's ironically one of the "whales" he constantly condemns.

When she's less than a third health, gives me an opportunity to stun her and deal damage, and I blow my entire combo doing easily twice the health she had, yeah I would expect to win. But, Diana has the base stats of a tank, as well as a shield for just pushing W.

An intelligent player wouldn't play

I would expect to beat someone with very little AD and mostly AS given how Rammus returns damage EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU AUTO and I was built entirely armor. But, Yi, with all his balance, does true damage on every auto and sustains off of a BORK even though his autos are doing less than a hundred damage.

An intelligent player wouldn't do this

When I'm 17/2 (I think) and absolutely destroying everyone on their team, I would expect to be able to beat someone who is 4/8 (I think). But, lifesteal is the most balanced stat in the game, and my character that IS MEANT TO ISOLATE AND DESTROY SINGLE TARGETS fails because Yasuo can right click and miss everything.

Understand this. For some reason you think that defense doesn't matter, and you don't take itemization and counter-building seriously. And you pick terrible fights thinking that you can win them. Instead of calling everyone on your team stupid, why don't you improve your own game first?

There is no counterbuilding to true damage, there is no item that makes Diana NOT shield herself for 500+, there is no item that makes Yasuo NOT heal for 300+ every half second (yeah, go try building an EC and see how much it stops his lifestealing)... it's just an issue of Riot not giving a fuck about balance, and ignoring champs that need nerfs.

The Master Yi also had a item 3036 and from what I understand they never built item 3006

His build WAS at that specific time: item 1419 item 3124 item 3153 item 3036 item 3155

Match history doesn't lie.

Niyumi1 votes

Okay, so he's still doing 20% damage.

Rammus has what, 108 base armor, I had ~600 armor.

492 x .55 = 270.

Armor formula = 100 / (100+armor)

100 / (100 + 378) = 21%.

Then another 12% reduction from my Tabi (not affected by armor)

He's doing around 18% damage per auto. Lifesteal is based on the physical damage your autos do, and he has less than 100 AD. So... yeah. Should not have died there.

Void Nargacuga1 votes

Correction: Rammus has 104.5 base armor at level 18.

You had, at the start of the video 418 armor, at max you had 546 armor when you used your Defensive Ball Curl. Because it will be important down the line in damage calculations, your Max health was 4047 as seen in the video.

Damage is calculated like this against armor: http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb1487265845/leagueoflegends/images/math/4/8/1/4815fe484c2dd507d9bc962de2fff156.png

Math 100/(100 + 546) = about 0.15 damage multiplier (about 85% reduction)

Now item 3036 lets him ignore 45% of your Bonus armor.

Relevant math for LDR 546 - 104.5 = 441.5 Bonus armor. 441.5 - (441.5 x 45%) = 242.825 Effective Bonus armor. 242.825 + 104.5 = 347.325 Effective total armor whenever MasterYi attacks you.

100/(100 + 347.325) = about 0.22 damage multiplier (about 78% reduction)

But then LDR has a nasty trick up its sleeve since its great for fighting enemies who have LOTS more health then you! Which you OBVIOUSLY have considering his build, runes, and masteries.

item 3036 Giant Slayer: Grants up to +15% bonus physical damage against enemy champions with greater maximum health than you (+1.5% damage per 50 health difference, maxing at 500 health difference). It should be obvious that he is going to get that +15% bonus physical damage against you. So yeah... Pretty sure that his physical damage is only getting reduced by an educated guess of 63% now!

Now for all the fun stuff of his item build and it being Master Yi!

Master Yi has True damage on his Wuju Style when activated on EVERY AA (which he did activate), not to mention his passive Double Strike letting him hit you again every 3 autos dealing 50% of his AD and it triggers on-hit effects as well (WUJU STYLE TRUE DAMAGE HITS HERE AS WELL!), he uses Challenging Smite on you (MORE on hit True damage that also lingers and burns for a bit! And it reduces the damage you deal to him by 20% and both effects last for 4 seconds), magic damage on hit from item 3124 (measly +15 on hit magic damage but should be mentioned) but mainly its Guinsoo's Rage letting him proc On-Hit effects stupidly fast especially with his passive. He also has item 3155 and its Lifeline passive which says: Upon taking magic damage that would reduce maximum health below 30%, grants a shield that absorbs 110 - 280 (based on level {he got the 280 shield since he is lvl 18}) magic damage for 5 seconds.

All of his on-hit effects damage calculations: item 1419 4% of targets max health as bonus on-hit damage (for you that would be a 161.88 bonus physical damage), Max rank Wuju Style deals 50 (+ 25% bonus AD) true damage, item 3715summoner 11 (challenging smite) lets him deal a 162 true damage burn over 3 seconds when you get attacked (so really 54 extra true damage every AA/On-hit proc until he stops AAing you because he is attacking so damn stupidly fast), item 3153 deals 8% of your current health as bonus on-hit physical damage and on that first AA it would be 323.76 bonus physical damage.

Is it starting to sink in yet?

Niyumi1 votes

Void Nargacuga1 votes

[zombie-brand-facepalm]

TyrekGoldenspear2 votes

Hint: it's the items that are letting him deal the damage.

MagicFlyingLlama3 votes

Or you could just be a defeatist that makes no real effort as soon as you see a "counter". A good player can beat their counters, or at least survive.

Niyumi1 votes

No such thing as counters. Some champs are just objectively stronger in nearly every way.

Compare Kha to Eve, for example. Kha is going to clear effortlessly, have far stronger ganks (easier to see him coming though), can take objectives earlier, and all that. They're both stealth assassin junglers, but one is just far, far stronger than the other. Only thing Eve has on Kha is her passive.

Compare Lucian to Vayne. Both are duelist ADCs (though Vayne is honestly more of an assassin), both rely heavily on abilities, but Vayne just has 15x the damage output, as well as true damage based on max health. She's more mobile and has CC. Lucian's abilities are all skillshots and can be dodged, while Vayne is 100% targeted. Only thing Lucian has on Vayne is the ability to go over walls with his E, and his stupid synergy with Braum.

Compare Garen to Darius. Both are juggernauts, both thrive in close combat, yet Darius has far more damage (excluding the villain for Garen), sustain, brings slows and pulls to a teamfight, and has a massive true damage nuke / dash that has no CD if used properly. Darius can kill an entire team with little effort, while Garen can maybe kill one person if they get low around him, and then do nothing.

Now, if you want an actual skill matchup where the champ doesn't actually dictate who wins:

Lulu vs. Ahri

Zed vs. Liss

Singed vs. Anyone

Azir vs. Ori

And so on.

The issue with League is that each niche should be filled with a lot of champions that all compete and do well, but the reality is that each niche has one or two champs that destroy everything else and can't be stopped.

MagicFlyingLlama3 votes

Not sure if bad troll or just bad...

"No such thing as counters" Ok, maybe this is true in bronze V where people build liandry's on lux.

Lissanda is a hard counter to Zed and should wreck him unless the player is garbage. Singed has definite lane counters and typically looses horribly to any sustained ranged damage. He is basically the lowest skill ceiling (playing with and playing against) champ in the game, skill never factors into his lane.

Niyumi1 votes

Now, assuming both champions have an actual brain, they'd know their interactions in lane. It's a skill matchup assuming both are equally skilled.

And Singed has a very low skill ceiling, you're right. So why doesn't everyone play Singed and carry like a god? Maybe he's not that easy.

MagicFlyingLlama1 votes

Well.. Is this a trick question?

The answer is because singe dis completely useless in a teamfight, has no existence outside splitpushing and is incapable of doing anything resembling carrying.

His winrate is decent, but the number of comps he fits (and laners he works against) in are small, hence his tiny pick rate.

He has nothing resembling a skill requirement in any form, it is virtually impossible to play him wrong unless the player is straight awful and tries to hug turrets.

TL;DR i think you are just a bad troll at this point, nobody at your rank could be so clueless.

Niyumi1 votes

Okay, so why are there challenger Singed mains if he's so bad?

MagicFlyingLlama2 votes

Nowhere did i say or suggest singed is bad.

On top of that, look at all the people in masters/challenger who play slightly strange things because they enjoy playing it. I will not be responding to any more of your pathetic attempts at baiting argument, you clearly fail to think before vomiting forth stupidities.

Team 2 wins

Leo and Ashe bot is insanely stupid with the slows and stuns and jhin would be murdered and soraka couldnt keep up with heals

Talon can just Jump on kat and murder her even if she shunpos away

Malphite is overall a better tank than garen with a bit more damage and CC so with help from jg grag hed win top

ji versus grag: yi would win early but get shut down once leo and mal build armor, and maybe even grag to

along with the fact that mal and grag can cancel his heal and lock him down with stuns and knockups (which arent slows)

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

You are correct.

However this quiz was meant for OP, as team 1 listed several champs he has complained about as broken and having no counterplay, which he almost certainly would have picked.

Team 2 has lesser known champs, but they bring CC and tankiness to the table that sometimes OP forget exists.

Team 2 wins

Leo and Ashe bot is insanely stupid with the slows and stuns and jhin would be murdered and soraka couldnt keep up with heals

Not really, no, Jhin plus Soraka is a stronger lane than Leo and Ashe. Jhin's laning phase is EXTREMELY powerful, he easily out-damages Ashe and both Soraka and him will be poking Leo at level 1 and on.

Talon can just Jump on kat and murder her even if she shunpos away

Why would Katarina shunpo away if Talon hasn't already used his jump? Though Talon probably does win. He's busted right now.

Malphite is overall a better tank than garen with a bit more damage and CC so with help from jg grag hed win top

Garen isn't a tank, and he also does much more damage than Malphite, and Malphite is a very easy lane for Garen lol. A Black Cleaver rush means that Malphite's armour will be about half as effective early into the game. Garen is a useless piece of shit past laning phase so this doesn't really matter though.

ji versus grag: yi would win early but get shut down once leo and mal build armor, and maybe even grag to

Yi is fucking dog shit early, Gragas easily beats him at that stage. He also does not give a single shit if Leo and Malphite build armour. Yi is one of the best tank shredders in the entire game, his on-hit true damage cuts through tanks like butter. Champ is poop though.

Niyumi1 votes

Team 2, hands down. While team 1 can do a lot of damage, they have no CC or utility, and team 2 is all a bunch of hypertanks who stunlock you for years while doing old assassin level damage.

Also did you just call Talon and Ashe hypertanks? I mean, Ashe can build item 3075, but...

Niyumi1 votes

Minus Talon. ADCs may as well be hyper tanks with all their lifesteal. You either one shot them or CC them for a solid 10 seconds, or they literally can't die, even if you build an Ececutioner's Calling or Mortal Reminder.

They didn't have recording back then, but I was playing Illaoi with ~350 AD and a Triforce, ulted an Ashe's ENTIRE TEAM plus her E spirit (6 tentacles), and hit W on her 4 times, watched all the tentacles hit her, yet I still die as she walks away at 2/3 health. Then she goes on to kill two more people before being killed herself.

And no one gave it away. That's just an easy question.
