Dragons might allow one team to snowball too easily.

Just looking over the stats, and say one team manages to get 2 internals or 2 oceans, that is quite a damage/regenerative buff over the opponent. The other two can also be, while not nearly as much, overly harmful to the team which did not receive the buff. But I am not against this. My issue is that these objectives still only matter for which team last hits.

Maybe add one or more of the following mechanics,

  1. Implement a system that when going for a second or third stack of the same kind of dragon buff, your team deals reduced damage to it while the other deals normal or increased. This would allow your team to still get the buff, but you would have to work a bit more for it. And this seems fair to me since the buffs are quite better than old dragon, and are more punishing for not getting them.

  2. Making smite deal reduced damage or not work entirely on dragons which would give you 2 or 3 stacks of a single kind, unless you team has dealt considerable damage already to it (semi-steal prevention, so you cant just jump the wall and steal it last second as easily). Other execute abilities should deal the same damage they normally would (like with Cho'gath's Feast or Nunu's Consume) since those have point blank range and are harder to use in a steal than smite.

  3. Make the dragons provide true vision to both sides (while keeping the dragon's health bar hidden) when it is being damaged by a player. This would allow for both sides to be aware of what is happening but the team who is not there would still have to guess on when it is low enough to try and steal it. Wards and players would reveal its health bar if it is in their field of view like usual. This would just indicate that it is/was being damaged by the enemy team. This true vision will not allow targeting abilities, smite or other things like basic attacks to work. It is simply vision of the dragon pit, the game would still treat it as being in fog of war mechanically.

  4. Rift Harold and the first Baron after 35 minutes should be considered being added to the Elder Dragon's CRUEL ULTIMATUM stacks if you have less then or equal to 1 elemental dragons stack (still caps at 3 stacks). This way, you can still benefit from a burn stack on top of the base 45 since you have no other way to gain stacks from elemental dragon because just 45 over 3 seconds isn't that big of a damage buff (it is still nice but can be mitigated by other things like Death's Dance passive more easily than 2-3 additional stacks).

Wouldn't that make the Earth drake even more useless than it already is?

Not really, since you are dealing more and more damage each instance of a new elemental anyways due to scaling with more items, and other epic monsters like baron, other elemental types, and elder, as well as turrets would not be affected by this. Only additional Mountain dragons would be.

I mean, having a dragon buff negate a mechanic to make it harder to take other dragons seems a little..... Counter intuitive? Earth drake is already the weaker of the other drakes to begin with. Yeah, earth drake makes it easier to take objectives faster, but fire drake does that too..... and then some. Really, that system would just make teams NOT go for drake depending on the element. If it's earth or air, teams might just not take it since fire/water is better, and taking one of the weaker ones makes it harder to take one of the better ones. In other words, the only time you will see any contention over dragon buffs is when fire or water dragon is up.

If anything, I would say the best way of trying to make a system like this work is not reducing the team's damage to the dragon, but increasing the dragon's damage to the team. How about giving the dragon an aoe like baron's. Anyone in combat with dragon takes aoe burn damage, and the more stacks of that specific (or just stacks in general) dragon you have, the more damage you take. That way it would be easier for the other team to defend it and take it.

Nice idea. And the difficulty is only there for repeat dragon stacks. so any first time spawns are normal.

Also, make the elder dragon have a similar mechanic, or at least make it harder per dragon stack you have, and make the difficulty based on what stack you have or something. Like fire dragon stacks increase damage, air decreases his cd's for his attacks (like a knock back and such), earth increases HP, and water decreases the damage the focus target does or something like that.

maybe fire would give him a pulsing aoe ring of damage like a sunfire.

Sigh. That's the point. The team is rewarded for getting a Dragon. Dragon already gets harder to get as the game goes on, why should these be added? The other team should be punished for losing a Dragon.

Because sometimes, one side cannot contest if they lose the first team fight. and also, red side has the advantage since the opening faces them, so sneaking it is easier.

It would be an anti snowball mechanic. And dragon is NOT harder to get the later it is, unless it's elder dragon. You can easily solo it as pretty much anyone not the support at like level 6-7. I've already done it as the adc lots of times.
