So placements drops your MMR when you complete them?

I decided to do ranked again this year and completed my placements 9 wins 1 loss.

Before completing my final match op.gg showed my MMR as 1589 (Gold 3 range)

When I completed the last match (which was pure cancer dealing with trolls) it placed me in Silver 3 and op.gg no longer showed a 1589 but a 1389. So did riot purposefully drop my MMR? I know you start at a lower rank than your last place last season or whatever but I thought the point was your MMR would stay where it was so you could excel faster if you were a few hundred mmr above your current position...

Maybe I miss understood it... well time to grind silver. It's like pulling nails but I guess you have to do it anyway.

You were S5 last season and your entire ranked career you didnt go higher than Silver 4. Even if you went 10-0 you wouldn't be gold The site estimate is off from not having a base MMR to start with when in game it does

MMR estimators are not supported by Riot, and are entirely guesswork done by the site.

They're also horrible inaccurate until you have a large number of games played, at which point the estimate is irrelevant because your MMR should equal that of your rank average.

Op.gg has no idea what your MMR is. Its not even remotely accurate and jist guesswork.
