Question. I've been experimenting with /mute all. It'd be nice if I was responsive to pings as much as my team wants, but really I basically pretend they don't exist. Is this a viable, permanent solution to my constant chat restrictions?

There are 3 kinds of players as far as attitude goes, negative players, neutral players, positive players. I would say the next time you're not restricted, try making an active attempt to be a positive player. Say "glhf" at the beginning, whenever a teammate gets a kill or helps you with something ever say "gj", always use "I" sentences (Example: "I need a bit of help with lissandra's stun - Nami, could you build Mikaels please?" instead of "Nami, you need to build mikaels to deal with their stuns").
Basically whenever something good happens, say something in the chat. Whenever something bad happens, keep silent. That's my general advice. Also, it'll help your teammates as well. Games are more fun if someone is being overwhelmingly positive, and you can make someone's day by calling out their amazing plays. (I've praised a riven for performing a jump in a clutch situation - it's not particularly mechanically impressive, but she was losing hard against garen and praising her while pronouncing garen as too hard a counter turned her into an extremely positive teammate)
This kind of response may not be what you were looking for, but I just want to get more people trying to be actively positive in their games. xP
disregardable1 votesIt's great that this game doesn't frustrate you to the point where you can do that. I just finished my 45th game with mute all on. To help me cope with the adjustment, I typed everything I wanted to say to my teammates in a note file. Let me quote some smaller ones for you.
Game 11, Ranked, Jinx, Victory "Orianna support. Right. I'm going top. I'm going top by 3 if this lane is screwed. Holy shit you fed post-nerf Lucian. You could've brought literally any real support into this lane and we'd have dominated, but you brought a troll support and fed him....Holy shit. Our Cho can 1v4. GG."
Game 21, Ranked, Sona, Defeat "This Draven is completely comatose. He completely ignores everything going on around him. I'm trying not to be bored and to follow around the very fed Lissandra, but I'm bad at being at the same place as her. Also, I'm fucking feeding. Draven ended with a 9% c/kill "
Game 30, 3v3 Bots, Jinx, Victory "Really Cait? Stfu I'll go wherever I want."
Game 33, Normals Draft, Twitch, Defeat "Bard, you should've backed. LOL I didn't notice you were intentionally feeding. I literally laughed out loud."
Of all 45 games, I only had something positive to say 4 times. Twice I complimented a skin, once I said GG (that game 11), and once I complimented a Lee Sin and Darius on their respective triple kills.
TL;DR: I'm really super negative, I can't be nice to people.

The way that I would have tried to deal with those: 11: "glhf! Orianna support, huh. Lets make it work :D Aweh, you died. Could you try to play a bit safer, please? Oh well, looks like orianna doesn't know what she's doing, so I'll just hug tower and farm, I'll outscale. Could we get a gank bot, please?"
21: "Hey Draven, we're behind a bit. Could we play safer? I'm gonna ward round bot and let you farm on your own while I help mid, k?"
30: Lol it's bots it doesn't matter if we're playing a team made of spaghetti we'll still crush them
33: ....yeah I'll give you this, bard players make me want to facepalm 90% of the time. The only time I've ever had success with a bard support was when I was playing sivir and that's cos I got a kill with the jungler and then let him roam and just wavecleared bot lane 2v1 constantly and prevented them from touching my tower.
Seriously though, try just the two things of glhf and gj. They may not seem like much, but I find they have a very strong psychological effect on you - since you're saying something positive and taking positive actions, it'll give you a more positive outlook on the game. Imagine for a second a game where nobody says anything at the start, and then a game where 5 people say glhf in the all chat at the start. Which one do you get the impression that it'll be more enjoyable.

We didn't come mid to steal your CS, we came mid to protect your shit. Congrats on your kill, hope it was worth mid turret. 15 minutes in, 2 turrets down, ready to ff. Overextended mid and got 2v1'd from two that just took top turret. God this team is awful, no pings whatsoever. I saw Quinn in retreat top, so I figured they had backed. I'm 4/1, all turrets outer turrets down at 16, this game is over. Thresh and I are bot farming and about to turn around, Diana comes out of nowhere and slaughters us. We lost a 4v5. All I can think is watch my team not ff this. To my surprise, they did, at 21. Good on them. We probably could've stalled, but who wants to.
Game 2: Teambuilder, Jinx, Victory I hate Lulu support. God my CS in lane is shit. Here I am, having another perfect Jinx game, 8/0 at fucking 10 minutes in the game, and FIZZ is 1/7 to fucking LeBroken. What is wrong with you. How do you even die as Fizz. Why do you have to feed the worst champion in the game. Also, Renekton, when you and your 10/0 Jinx are being chased by a fucking Darius, don't you think you could let her move ahead of you a bit? Be a man? He's 1/4, man. You have nothing to be afraid of, unlike your squishy carry. Enemy team forfeit at 23 anyway, because I was OP as fuck. I don't think my Runaans strategy is working though.
Game 3: Teambuilder, Jinx, Victory Enemy team has an Ironscale Shyvana. God that skin is sexy. Also, Leona, this laning phase should be fantastic, because Zenith+Stun+Chompers = EZ first blood. And we're against motherfucking Draven! Don't you dare screw this up or sit in the god damn bush. Leona don't sit in the god damn bush. Especially before minions have spawned, protect the buffs! Yup. I was right, you're shit. You let me facetank several hits from Draven, almost dying, twice. He was going to kill me, and you stunned bard instead, forcing me to flash. You're completley unreliable. Learn to Leona, and ff at 20. Congrats Darius and Lee Sin on your triples. GG we win lol. Not really happy I have more assists than Leo tho. And another ff at 20 by the enemy.
Game 4: Teambuilder, Jinx, Defeat Top lane Zed AFK ofc. What the fuck, Nasus support?! Against a Jinx too. This is bad. That lane is fucked, going mid. Sorry yas, not leaving turret or being near Nasus. Why even bother trying to run away when they're near you? Why even bother playing this game? There's no point in trying. League got stuck in Camera lock. All I hear is enemy killing spree while I google how to fix it. Disconnecting and reconnecting fixed it. They pinged me constantly like morons. Obviously reported for harassment. Seriously, 4 ffs at 20 in a row. Definitely done with Runaans.
Game 5: Normal Draft, Leona, Victory Another Jinx/Leona game. I really hope this one isn't shit. I really hate support, can't farm. Holy fuck this Jinx cannot follow up for her life. Seriously, she is only getting assists. And why does she keep going mid before bot's turret is down? And I can't CC kat in time, so she's 4/0 now. Great. By the way, the banner banned Gnar, Warwick, and Jax. So kat could get through. Great idea right? I'm calling ff at 20. I'm 2/5/6. I'm feeding Kat. why do I always feed when I Leona? I'm just so bad. Enemy team forfeit at 32.
Game 6: Ranked, Vayne, Defeat I got counterpicked by Jinx. I asked my support to bring someone with serious peel, she instalocks Janna. K then. It took me 5 games to break the rules. Jinx obviously got fed. I told Janna she was a really stupid pick. This probably invalidates this entire experiment. Being toxic one time is probably all it takes to get chat restricted for another 30 games. Also, the score was 6/36 and our team didn't forfeit. We had absolutely nothing to go off of. I went 0/8. Absolutely unbelievable. Fuck Bronze. I don't think I got reported, but I probably did.
Game 7: Ranked, Jinx, Defeat Taric support. Against Lux/Trist. Not excited. Another game I had to back at 3. Taric went AFk. 0/1, gg afk ff at 20, we lost and have no chance. Fuck this snowballing game and this stupid taric. who even plays taric? Why did he even bring taric? He was last pick, he knew they were lux+trist. Stupid Xin Zhao and J4 keep coming to my lane and taking my cs. Got 1v3'd because those 2 and my support keep feeding together for no apparent reason. It's 8/20 20 minutes in the game, and they don't ff. Wow. Takes them until 31 to realize the game is lost.
Game 8, Ranked, Caitlyn, Victory Janna, why do you keep leaving me in lane? I want teh more kills. I have too many assists 4/0/4. Easy lane, easy life. This game was a breath of fresh air.
Game 9, Ranked, Miss Fortune, Defeat Pulling out my old main, MF. Idk, I just felt like it. My support brought Voli into Caitlyn. This looks bad. I was right, of course. He doesn't get a support item, he dives them under tower, he tries to take my cs, and he feeds three kills. After that, I get pulled by blitz the first time and he does nothing to help the onslaught. It happens a second time as soon as I get back to lane. I can't believe this is ranked. What did I do to deserve this? Caitlyn is 5/0. I go top to see if something can get accomplished. Riven is 4/0. We give her a double kill. Watch them not ff this. Of course they don't. Complete delusional idiots. Then, Caitlyn left. They won't ff no matter what though. We're years behind, and Riven can end this game by herself, but they won't ff. Another 4v5 lost as well as 45 minutes of my life.
Game 10, Ranked, Sivir, Defeat. I can't respect a Jinx that brings ignite, not supporting. Probably lost again. Zed is the only good one on the team, everyone else including me is complete shit. I'm not even really mad about it, it's so bad. It's hard to be mad about getting pulled by Blitz when you have a spell shield you could have used. I didn't even call the FF at 20, which is why it was so surprising that they didn't ff. I don't know why. They didn't even forfeit when Ryze left us 4v5 and Jinx was 2/13.
Game 12, ARAM, Sona, Victory Draven is OP in ARAM. Damn that Vayne, had ult in 3 seconds.

Game 18, Ranked, Sona, Victory Half way there. Chat restrictions are so OP. And I'm feeding again. Why do I always feed when I'm support? Seriously I just left base and died 3 times in a row. and now Brand is fed. And right after Brand's triple, we give Renekton a triple. I WANTED us to disengage. You guys were just like, nooo. Let's 3v4 even though we JUST lost a 4v4. Didn't matter though, I still got Draven fed.
Game 19, Ranked, Udyr, Victory. Their Yas is AFK.
Game 20, Ranked, Udyr, Defeat I broke the rule again to tell this bitch Morgana off for stealing my blue buff. NO GANKS FOR YOU BITCH, REPORTED. Yeah, this is another one I don't understand why they didn't forfeit. None of them knew how to play (12k gold 40 minutes in...really?, I mean it was fine on Thresh...). They fed Vel like crazy. They lost 6 teamfights in a row, but they kept all midding. Ok then. I tried splitting, but they just all came to the lane I was in. Also, I got a penta denied by a fucking blitzcrank. Fuck you Blitzcrank. It would've been my first penta on the Dyr. RIP penta.

disregardable1 votesOverall, doing this accomplished exactly what I hoped it would. I typed way more in the beginning and gradually phased into typing very little. There were a few games, see gaps in numbers, where I just didn't want to say anything to my team at all. My account is in a much better place now too, I hope. Being nice to people...eh. It's not something that comes naturally to me at all. Like there was a time a few months when I tried to be nice to people, and all that did was just act as a transition into hostility.

Saixos1 votesHuh. Question: Why do you play league? For me, I play league because I find it fun. If it isn't fun, then it is obviously going to be frustrating. As long as you can enjoy yourself, being positive is far easier. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that you're a goal oriented person, then?
If my guesses are correct, then I'd just like to recommend that you only play ARAMs for a while. ARAMs are far more casual, and there are no expectations, you can't flame anyone cos there's a good chance everyone will be playing with someone they don't know. And just focus on having fun rather than actually winning the game. From the ones you've posted, the ARAMs seem to be the most positive as well.
Ranked is quite stressful and puts you under too much pressure, and I believe that you're playing too many ranked games consecutively.
Being nice to people on league is very difficult, it takes a lot of effort. The way I got to where I was was originally "This blitz is a moron, but I'm not going to say anything. I'm better than that." and remaining convinced, never saying anything because I didn't want to be that person. The more you try to be positive, the easier it gets, it's just like breaking an addiction of sorts. For now though I think if you only say 2 phrases "glhf" and "gg" at the beginning and end of every game, it'll go a long way towards improving your attitude.

Common question. It's part sunk costs, part lack of anything else to do,and part desire for a sense of accomplishment. The game has never been consistently fun for me. I only started playing it because I wanted to understand how to play it. I'd never played or seen online strategy games before. I was confused, frustrated, and curious but not entertained.

Uhm. Not really. I usually don't actively create goals nor do I always finish the few I do create. Sometimes goals are useful though?

Yeah, no. I don't play a lot of ARAMs just because of how unfair and stompish it is. It's pretty great when you're winning, but it's REALLY miserable when you're not. Back when I was in uni, I was playing them daily because of how short they were (in the morning before lecture), but they definitely wore out their welcome.

It should be noted that I behave exactly the same way in normals. Seriously. I've only just come back to ranked after a giant break in normals. People just don't forfeit in normals anymore, so I might as well play ranked for the superior matchmaking.
