Shen can never get the most out of his shield
I have never seriously understood why his passive procs when his Q reaches him and his E reaches the end of its length instead of the beginning of each cast

Im enjoying the new Shen. Preferably in the Jungle as the Q + E Combo allows me to protect my laner from basic attacks so he/she won't take damage.
I don't play Shen, but I play tanks with other shields and can give some insight on why shield on the end of the cast is better.
With other tanks with gapclosers with shields, it's normally better to use the shield when you are closer to your target rather than when you first use the shield because using it earlier makes its duration run out faster without actually doing anything. With Nautilus in particular, it's better to Q onto a target, then shield either on the way to the target or when you get to the target, and not as you land the Q on the target.
E giving a shield at the end of the dash would give more time for the shield to be active when engaging, which is overall more advantageous for Shen. I can't speak for other situations apart from engaging or the Q though.
I miss Shen's range, lifetap, free sheilds whenever you want from your W, and AP shen. You could literally build anything on old Shen: AP, AD, AS, Tank, etc.
I am not sure I fancy the new shen so much. That sword is just trouble.
Thematically at least it seems like the phantom blade would make more sense on Irelia, though mechanically it pretty much ends up being a second part of Q since you can't really move it to anywhere besides where you are currently. I miss the old Q.
I can guess why the Q passive only works once his Q hits him. If Q goes through multiple champions,Shen could easily get another empowered AA, possibly more. This is not desirable from a balance standpoint.

good point, but what about his E?i see no point in the shield being given at the end sure it makes it better for engaging but its worse for escaping
