What makes a mid lane champion a mid lane champion

Mid lane is just another lane, what makes it so special that only a certain few champions can be played there?

Generally, it's that they scale more off levels than items, that the short lane is not a hindrance (IE they don't have to be sticky to kill something), sometimes that being in a short lane is helpful, and that they can hold their own in a 1v1 lane.

Bonus points for wave clear and the ability to apply pressure around the map easily.

they lack escape skills, but mid isn't that easy to gank so long as you have vision. mid is also the shortest lane, so their lack of mobility isn't much of a problem there either. they have good wave clear they have good damage, so getting them farmed is important they have easy access to blue buff they can easily roam to either lane for a gank without missing farm they can more easily help with important objectives like baron and dragon
