I feel like Azir needs to have an incredibly weak early game given how strong he is late

Honestly, Azir might be the best late game champ in this game minus poppy and absurd stacks on infinite scalers.

He was just nerfed but I honestly feel that hardly mattered much, he's still got an incredibly safe lane phase. He can easily farm without interacting, which I don't think is a good thing given his late game potential. His early game needs to just not be safe. I feel like there's no punishing him no matter how hard you try to come down on him because he has an answer for everything.

I'm fine with his late game being what it is if he's actually weak early and exploitable but the simple fact is, he's not. Something has to give.

Azir is like one of those school bullies most of us are far too well acquainted with, he's a ruthless bully in lane, but he sits down and cries if he ever meets someone who can bully him more. Azir also has rather low kill potential if you respect his poke, he won't ever manage to burst you from 100-0 zero, so if your character has an early game powerspike with burst, you should be able to dispose of him rather easily.

He's my absolute favorite champion to play, and I can tell you that my biggest nightmare are characters with any sort of mobility, even a ms boost. Outmanuvre his soldiers and move around them whenever possible to get to him, if he's just used his Q he's EXTREMELY vulnerable to trades until it's back up, because without his soldiers there he simply CANNOT trade with most other midlaners.

He doesn't need a weak early game, his mid game is already fairly lackluster. If you know how to play against him, you'll do well either way.

Pretty much this. His early game actually is rather weak, it's only strong when you don't respect the poke and let him poke you down all lane. Most mid laners also have a much earlier power spike than Azir as well. I'll admit you have to actually think when laning against him but smart play renders him rather useless during the early game. The only exceptions really are just people he generally counters.

For example Yas or Kat. Sure they have huge burst and if played properly can wreck an Azir, but at the same time post 6, there damage involves being close so he generally just waits by tower for the engage and then ults you back into tower. Honestly, good jungle ganks aside, you'll find if you play Azir 3/4ths of your kills in lane will be post 6 and because someone fucked up and let you ult them into tower. Just consider it a farm lane, hit your power spike and burst his ass down...and don't go into tower range of him unless you know his ult is down or you can instagib him.

If he manages to ult you and escape to safety, that is fine. Get with your jungler, roam and create some havok, maybe get an objective because a HUGE part of his team fight utility was just used to save his ass. Fighting Azir early is simply a game of understanding how he works and adjusting accordingly. Problem is a lot of people don't want to do that. There is a reason in pro games when you see him picked he almost never wins early game trades or gets early kills by himself, it's because he just doesn't have that potential against knowledgeable players.

Play him sometime, get used to him. It's the best way to learn the weaknesses of any champ.

Also, I realize his winrate is low but that honestly needs to be taken with a grain of salt, he's still incredibly strong and quite frankly, most people suck with him.

Ya he's really good and frankly close to being overpowered with how much he has in his kit but he has Yasuo syndrome where most people just completely suck with him which is why his winrate is so low.

Yeah except Yasuo has a 48% winrate if the game is 0-25 mins long while azir only has a 31% chance of winning the game if its under 25 minutes, by far the lowest in the game.

According to lolking.net, Azir loses the vast majority of his lane match ups with much less than a 50% winrate in every match up. Like... every single one.

Azir is rather easy to beat in lane. He starts with extremely low HP for a Marksman Mage, his Q cooldown is absurdly long early on. His W damage ratio early is also pretty shit. His mana costs are very high and has a very interruptable escape that gives his a really crappy shield until later in the game when he starts to puts points into it.

Not to mention his base armor is very low and typically the runes used for him are scaling HP.

Case in point. Azir -is- extremely weak until late game. And even in his late game, I find him very lackluster compared to what he used to be able to do. He's not just a very boring and stale champion to play as.

The only time I have fun as Azir is when I stomp lane and get a whole lot of early kills pre-25 minutes, which typically only happens in a normals game against lower elo players.

I think in the end they're just going to have to go with making W scale up in range from a baseline.

It's the only way they're going to be able to control his early lane safety while also letting him scale well and having the other innate safety he has (seriously, he'd probably be a much better champion if they didn't insist on giving him that E)
