When I vote "No" On a surrender vote.

Skorch··33 votes·2,336 views

I hear a lot of people throwing around phrases simple as "People who vote no on surrender are scum" and "'everyone has their own right to vote yes/no on a surrender' is BS" So I thought I'd give my 2 cents.

I will vote YES on a surrender if: We are outnumbered. I have no problem voting YES if we are outnumbered unless we are winning HARD, like 40/20. The entire chat is filled with toxicity. And i mean every person. If i'm 1 role, and the top is pretty chill and wants to play. I wont surrender. I legitimately think we lose. I am actually tilted. It happens.

I will vote NO on a surrender if: You fed midlane, everyone else is fine. But you are tilted and started spamming "FF" You think we lose because bot lane fed, but im a fed JG who has repeatedly killed the ADC, but the ADC has more than 5 kills so you use that as an excuse for why you lost 1v3. I legitametly think we can win. If the game is even and i see our win condition, I will tell you our win condition, and not surrender. Or I know we can comeback, a lot of people say comebacks are impossible but i think that belief and surrendering quickly is the result of that.

IDK thought I'd give my 2 cents on surrendering since I have seen a LOT of tilted people flaming people for voting No lately.

I'll be grumpy if you don't FF in a match that ends up going on for 45 minutes because the enemy team clears jungle camps after every teamfight, but we still lose a crushing defeat.

See, my general rule is to not FF unless the enemy stops trying to win and we are so far behind that there is nothing we can do about it. Most people hate me because I don't surrender, but this is one of the few cases in which I would.

Just wanted to talk about an epic comeback that I had a few years ago.

I was playing one of my favorite shenanigans picks, Kha'Zix mid, against a Lux. I got really fed early (like 10/0 by the 20 minute mark really fed), but the rest of my team fed so hard, we were behind 15k at 24 minutes. However, I noticed the enemy team was getting cocky. They assumed it was a free win, so they were throwing their lives away for no reason. Which gave us a lot of gold back, and we caught back up. It took a lot of good calls for positioning and rotation, but my team listened to me, and I lead my team better than I've lead a team since, with perfect macro play, to the point where, 70 minutes in, we were killing their nexus with a 6k gold lead, having fully recovered from the 15k gold deficit we had. It was one of my best games and, even still, 3 years later, I remember that game fondly. It was tough, but it worked. Not every game is a loss just because of a huge gold deficit.

The sad thing is that people will mostly only listen to you if you're the fed guy. If you're the 1/2/5 Support they probably won't listen to your calls, even if you call baron because the entire enemy team has gone to kill your toplaner splitpushing botlane.

And I don't think that this is only a problem in low elo.

I once had a great comeback too! All lanes were feeding, the enemy was at our inhibs and all hope seemed lost... Then our Vayne finished her second item and got a Penta... I felt bad for that one though...

Bit of a more recent comeback that happened to me, I had a game where (not sure if you can even call this a comeback) all of my other lanes were feeding, but I was fed out my ass as a Twitch. I made a mistake that should've gotten me killed in walking too close to their fed Zed and Nocturne. Instead I walked away from that teamfight with a pentakill. We still lost that game, but I was far enough ahead that they shouldn't have won it, so I still call that them coming back even though they were ahead for the whole game.

I get this attitude in ranked, if I played ranked I would probably never FF.

But when the score is 10/22 the game is over. Bar an enemy disconnect. In norms at a certain point you just cut the miserable experience in half, and start over. The game is too snowbally to hold out for comebacks anymore.

While I agree, its a sad state of affairs.

If you extend games too long on ranked for a few LP you'll take too long to climb up the ladder or never will. Ranking is more of a grindfest rather than skill match up with the messy system that we have. Ofcourse your skills will always matter but even if you're good someone a bit less skilled than you can advance quicker by just playing more matches.

What really gets me tilted: People that feed the enemy to oblivion and then block surrender vote because "we can still win" or "but I have fun with the game". Players that are like 0-7 should just be excluded from the surrender vote. You can always have a bad game, and I blame no one for unintentional feeding whatsoever. But if your mates that suffer from that feed want to call it a day, it's hugely impolite to spit in their faces and take them hostage.

I can't tell you the amount of times I have gotten wreckt as riven. Certain members of the team called for surrender and we came back and won because I know how to play from behind. Ya it's rare but these games are as recent as last season. (haven't really played since the update) like we had a game where the entire enemy team was fed, but the entire team was ad so my team stacked armor. I grabbed a knights vow to help my adc who was getting wrecked by zed and we managed to stall for 10 minutes with 2-3 inhibs down and aced for a comeback. Just cause someone fed doesn't mean the game is over.

Ayanami3rd1 votes

That's true. Still I find it very unsportsmanlike to block the surrender of your better playing mates if you are the feeder. You already gave the team a hard time (which happens, no offense), so at least you could be polite to not force them into a game they obviously don't enjoy. That's like if I invited you for dinner, cooked very badly, but forced you to eat up, because "it will taste good after a while" or "well I enjoy the meal".

Thats true. And I rarely block the surrender vote If I am the deciding one. (if I am the one doing poorly) usually I appologize if I am feeding and let my team know what I need and what I can contribute. Typically if I am doing poorly If i get a good flank I can come back or I can continually pressure lanes using my mobility to put pressure on lanes without leaving myself in danger.

I never ff. I always tell my team "this is bronze. anything can happen".

That's how I've made it to gold so far lul.

Just yesterday I won a 4vs5 after our mid laner Ryze disconnected after going 0/3 against a Yasuo. Honestly, I felt like our chances of winning actually increased when he left, without having to deal with him feeding yasuo over 20 kills had he stayed.

7-43 in arurf, some twats still refuse to surrender and then to make the experience worse the enemy team acts like dicks and camps us at our fountain without even attacking the nexus towers, happens in ARAM as well

DemainaNyx1 votes

I personally report people like that as unsportmanlike. No clue if anyone is actually punished for it, but the least I can do is tell Riot I think this is bad behavior. It's the same as saying "ez" to me, because they think the game is already over so they don't need to try, and if Riot punishes people for "gg ez" I imagine they may eventually do it for this too.

iEmily2 votes

I mean riot added the mute button for the toxic people. And don't say it with harm communication because we have pings. And if someone doesn't listen to pings they sure af will not listen to you in chat explaining why you can win(ive been there). As for ffing. Its not hard to tell when a game is over. Half the time for me its someone who fed hard/doesnt know how to carry who thinks we can win and hits no. Or a troll. Edit: though ranked is a different story. I don't ff there

If you feed uncontrollably, and are the reason we are losing, and you put up a /ff vote, then ill vote no. You dont get to lose the game for us and then decide we should quit.

Also i usually vote no because throws happen 24/7. Ive won games where i was Triple inhibed exposed nexus. Just gotta play till the end.

The only time ill ever vote yes is if the game is 60+ minutes, at that point im just ready for a new match.

Eedat1 votes

I really don't care if people vote one way or the other. That's kind of the point of a vote lol. Only exception is if a duo is keeping people hostage in a game just to spite someone on the team they're arguing with.

My phrase is that "If somebody Votes 'Yes' when somebody declares to surrender, they are a Coward" "If somebody Votes 'No' when somebody declares to surrender, they have confidence." I was gonna say " (Second Part) they have hope and will pass it on" or "The ones who started this will have to see it to the end". But i felt like it sounds a bit cringy.

It's ironic though because I do vote Yes sometimes.
BUT ONLY BECAUSE Actual AFK Friends Feeding in Normal Games

(Don't mean to be mean here but most of my friends I play with are Bronze or Silver 5)

Though yes, being a Coward will save you sometimes but you won't get away with it twice.

I always vote No on a surrender, even if we're outnumbered.

"bUt i cHeCkEd yOuR mAtCh hIsToRy, aNd yOu fEeD a LoT tOO!, tRaSh! hOw aRe yOu even Platinum 5"

Hey, i'm not gonna blame it on my teammates even though i do mentally (Irony?)

Also the new meta kind of screwed all of us over, no?

I rarely give up and so should you.

MCNT0521 votes

Most the time I don't care, if 3 say yes and 1 no, I'll say yes. Or I'll let the timer go down, and in that time we will fight, then i will gauge if we can win

Krigjer1 votes

I am actually tilted. It happens.

This is most important to me because it ties in with 'am I enjoying the game'. No win is worth a certain level of aggravation.

I literally just had a game where the enemy team was 1-13 and I knew it was over. By the end they had three kills to our 32. Certain players were getting salty in allchat and I suggested they surrender, where they said the duo on their side just refused to. As a result, my team refused to hit the nexus and just let minions take it.

My heart goes out to the enemy team held hostage by a surrender vote. There are just too many instances lately where I really scratch my head about people hitting no.

Skorch1 votes

I vote No more often than Yes. With the exception of me being like "Hmm There are a lot of healing keystones in Domination and Precision, Im gonna play Akali for the first time in like 5 months" Proceeds to tilt myself going 1/13 This happened btw

Lowvyr1 votes

Personally I don't have a problem FFing in norms. If people on your team are wanting to ff they're probably really tilted and will probably continue down whatever path led them to wanting to ff. I just take the loss and move on to the next match. I don't really lose anything in norms. Now in ranked, if you throw up the ff I'm hitting no as soon as it comes up even if the score is 100/1 and they're pushing our nexus towers at 10 minutes, I'm not giving up I ranked. FFing is basically like saying "Here, have my LP. Take it. I don't want it. It's all yours. I don't need it.", but tbh i'm tryna hold onto that LP as hard as I can.

Skorch1 votes

For me, I'll let you out if its obvious my team isnt having fun.

I WONT let you out if: You are a bitching child who isnt the carry and is pissy because of it. OR, It is a bunch of children bickering over the smallest shit.

Butt Ρlug1 votes

I does pretty much the same thing, i've saw so many comebacks that i nearly always vote NO in ranked, every game counts :)

FirewaterDM1 votes

I kinda have the same sentiments- like there's a bunch of games where if my premade says fuck it i'll say yes cause nothing kills a fun session of league like 1/2 of the group tilting off of some ugly shit.

That being said Ranked = Auto No cause more relevant, and that's more of a time investment.

Norms- I'm def similar to you especially if i'm playing someone I don't play often- I'm not trying to FF cause we lose I want to learn the champ or practice that situation. And legit the bigger of an asshole people are the more likely i'm gonna say no to say fuck you even if I agree. THAT being said there are also times i've said yes cause my entire team made the game more bullshit than trying to play it out because of being toxic shits.

tl;dr - Never surrendering in ranked, WILL say no to spite jackasses at any opportunity tho.

I got used to people spamming Surrender Vote... Most of the times is just 1 player spamming all game long, and sometimes complains in chat about how "bad" his team is, when he/she is the one dragging everyone down.

When I see someone complaining in first 5 minutes, I know the game will be hard, not because the enemy got an advantage, but because one player literally gave up on the game.

To be fair, even with this kind of players, I still had a fair number of games won. In a way, I feel great, as I and the other guys who tried proved how stupid the others were. Sometimes we were lucky, but giving up a chance is worse than being defeated in a fair match.

I wish more people shared my thoughts...

DemainaNyx1 votes

I'm normally the same way. I would rather play it out unless it's absolutely gone because I know I'm in an ELO where people make mistakes.

Our team got Aced, I (as Ashe) respawned and shot my ult at Baron blindly figuring they might be on it, and I stole it. We went on to win. Had a game where our mid lane Akali fed 4 kills, AFKed at 10 minutes, and my top and jungle carried the game cause the enemy team was so focused on killing me they let the Malphite and Darius and "support" Brand just AOE them to death. The one team fight that I lived due to them killing my teammates, I got 3 towers (one was really low) and an inhib and we won on the next push. Had a game where I stole baron as support Karma which let our split pushing Tryndamere get an inhib, which eventually led to a win.

Alternatively, I've had games stolen from us.

30+ kill Draven thinks he's god, goes into the enemy base solo, dies, then cries that his support Lulu wasn't there even though she just respawned in base. Midlaner gets caught and the rest of us couldn't defend during their death timers so we lost that game. Literally got cheesed in bot lane tri bush, managed to get a double on our ADC, snowball the early game, and then lose cause our top and jungle thought they were fed and I couldn't peel 5 people off our ADC as Nami when the enemy dove our nexus towers.

When the vote pops up, it's either an instant no if I think we have a chance, or I will be the last one to vote and will make my decision based on everyone else. If it's 15 minutes in and everyone wants to surrender, I don't want to, but I probably will because clearly my team doesn't want to do fight. If someone else says no though, I will say no simply because they want to keep trying. I will probably just queue up again if we surrender, so spending another 20 in this match or 20 in another makes no difference to me.
