I have no armor but Tabi's, and somehow half of Yasuo's damage to me is true?

How does that make sense?

What's the point of buying armor at all anymore?

I'm not even complaining about Yasuo's power level - as you can see by my build it wasn't even a very serious game - just the level of true damage in the game. I didn't buy any armor - and seeing that screen, why would I ever?

death recap is gibberish 90% of the time. It will tell you that someone hit you with Silver Bolts (vayne's W) even if vayne isn't on either team.

EDIT: but it also helps that he probably had conqueror and definitely had IE. Those two combined will make roughly 50% of his damage output true damage. It's not a "yasuo" problem but a "riot keeps putting in ridiculous runes and changes to AD items" problem.

that's true.. but when yas ulti gives him 50% armor pen, IE gives him true damage, conquer gives him true damage..

its really absurd how armor really doesn't mean jack shit, u could have 400 armor and would treat u like u had around 70.

Marshbouy15 votes

yep, it is pretty absurd. I won't sugarcoat it.

PB4UAME2 votes

Don't forget, his ally could have BC to shred you even more! :D And he can still actually opt into lethality and armor pen items too, as all of this is without factoring any of those in!

Not to mention, tank items lost almost 600 HP and 80 armor at just a three item build, and shit like FH, Thornmail, Randuin's etc, keep getting nerfed, to the point where FH and Thronmail, supposedly two of the strongest armor items, and the two best anti auto attacking items in the game are basically dumpstered to shit tier. I cannot honestly remember the last FH I've seen, and upgrading Bramble into TM feels like such a waste of gold I only do so as my last or second to last item, despite generally rushing Bramble if I'm going to buy it at all.

50% Bonus armor penetration.

Only penetrates armor purchased through items or armor gained through runes like Conditioning.

that's kinda a moot point unless your a tank, my example said 400 armor... your not getting 400 armor from hitting lvl 18.

its certainly an important distinction i didn't take into account ill give u that, but it really doesn't matter, because u still cant "itemize" against it.

and it still means any armor u build is effectively worthless

Which disproportionately affects champs with a .2 second mobility skill, self charging knockup that's repeatable, counts as an auto attack, and hits an aoe area.....

Most Adcs don't have the effectiveness with an IE as Yasuo does. They can't charge conquerer, and their auto attack resets are about half his speed.

Try the same items on Yasuo and an adc some time. Yasuo can auto attack faster than an adc due to his Q. I've counted like 4 hits per second.

Conqueror can seems a little silly sometimes. I recently had a game as Yorick in ARAM. I was the only real melee so went tank against a mainly AP team.

I did as much true damage in the game (I did have ignite too) as my teams Vayne. That's not how it should be, surely?

Incoming Conqueror fanboys saying Conqueror is totally fine and helps against tanks

Zero Skill Tank1 votes

It most definitely helps against tanks ^^

when you have played top before conqeueror against shit like ornn, you have every right to say this.

until then dont assume jack shit about what top laners had to go through before.

picking anything but tanks/ranked champs was an auto lose lane and then you were U S E L E S S in teamfights.

Mordepool2 votes

Illuminatra is not wrong but that doesnt chabge the fact they should have nerfed the True damage % to 10% instead of nerfing the AD

SithesisLord3 votes

when you have played top before conqeueror against shit like ornn, you have every right to say this.

No, you don´t because before Conqueror there was still LDR and Last Whisper and the crushing majority of tanks weren´t even close to being a problem.

Hell even the ones that were a problem don´t compare to how Irelia, Camille and Jax are nowadays.

But hey, god forbid Bruiser mains have to actually use their brain and build according to the matchup instead of mumbling gibberish, playing like monkeys and still winning because of an unhealthy keystone that for some idiotic reason still exists.

Illabethe1 votes

Except...... Ornn's never been unstoppable or even meta. He was just frustrating for players who couldn't adapt or learn how to lane him. 90% of the top roster has countered him for the duration of Season 7-8...... so I dont understand why you think he owns......

(Darius Urgot Pantheon Singed all completely make Ornn's life completely miserable, as does post 6 Fiora , and any ranged champ like Kayle )

My Waifu Vanilla3 votes

Must have been why Ornn was a tier 0 top laner in anything above gold for a majority of the time he was out until they nerfed him like 5 times in a row. LCS, LPL, and LCK teams just couldn't adapt I guess.

chipndip15 votes

It's damage conversion. Yeah, he did that much true damage, but some of that true damage would have been physical damage regardless, so the actual value he's gaining isn't as much as it looks like.

Zero Skill Tank9 votes

I know it's conversion.

It would just seem that when 20 bonus armor (less, in fact, since he penetrated :) me with his ult) makes true damage almost outpace physical, then MAYBE there is too much of this damage getting converted.

chipndip14 votes

You're not getting me: Just because it LOOKS that high doesn't mean the actual gained value is that high.

Zero Skill Tank10 votes

No, you are not getting me.

I know he didn't gained as much value, I'm talking that it is virtually impossible for me to gain any value from armor.

He does roughly half his damage as true. What incentive I have to ever buy an armor item in this situation - especially since he would penetrate :)) half of it anyway?

As a tank, facing a Yasuo makes my stats more or less irrelevant - I would do better to continue build damage, or - in a serious game - support items/MS/CDR, because I can't get any mileage from my armor.

The value he gets might not be as insane as it sounds, but the warping effect it has on the game is exactly as insane as it sounds.

I mean:

  1. Yasuo is a carry, building crit. True damage or not, he's designed to outscale tanks in 1v1s and small skirmishes.

  2. You only had tabis for armor.

  3. We don't even know what champ you were.

chipndip13 votes

I wish you guys never told me because now that I saw his champ and build I want to strangle him and everyone that's upvoting this garbage thread.

EndlessSorcerer3 votes

If they had built a significant amount of armor, it wouldn't really be surprising to see that true damage was a significant portion of damage received. After all, physical damage would be reduced if that were the case.

If they just wanted to highlight the true damage dealt by Conqueror and IE, their low armor only makes it more apparent.

I don't agree with the build for anything except fun but it isn't really the focus of the thread.

chipndip13 votes
  1. You can't complain about "True damage beating my tank" when you build your tank full damage after two items. This thread is deceitful.

  2. Poppy doesn't even NEED damage items. She deals damage through Q and she doesn't have good enough engage to warrant much else beyond that. This dude is mad that his AD FIGHTER BUILD POPPY got smoked by an actual melee carry.

  3. These passives convert damage dealt. Yeah, it'd deal a lot of true damage, but he shouldn't be getting in an elongated fight in the mid/late game as Poppy to begin with.

  4. I don't even know what this dude's complaining about. He won the match, and did almost 10k more damage than Yasuo did. And he's on a tank, building damage, with no armor, complaining about what OTHER ACTUAL DAMAGE CARRIES do to his armor WHEN HE BUILT NONE.

This thread is trash. I REALLY wish you guys didn't tell me about the extra info that was hidden by the image preview.

Rhai3 votes

How exactly is the thread deceitful? His statement is "I have no armor but Tabi's, and somehow half of Yasuo's damage to me is true?" which is a fair question since True damage shouldn't be that high unless you've got significant resistances

Zero Skill Tank1 votes

Right? It is funny how some people clearly know the language, yet still can't read for shit.

notMineskiexo1 votes

Ok but poppy doesn’t have any resistances expect tabi

Zero Skill Tank1 votes

But that's exactly the point. If I had high armor, then it made sense that big portion of damage I recieve is from true. But I had pretty much no bonus armor -> Tabis is 20, which Poppy increased to 22 or 24, which Yasuo's ult penetrated down to 11 or 12.

If I have 11 bonus armor, and still such a big portion of my health is lost to true damage, why would I ever build any armor item?

chipndip11 votes

Here's the deal: Look at his second sentence where he said "What's the point of building armor anymore?"

This is a circle jerk starter kit. If he built resistances, he probably could have survived long enough to save himself. I play a lot of Poppy, so I know he's bs'ing. He fucked up on his for fun build and now he's venting. Plain and simple.

Rhai2 votes

I'm sorry, my guy, but i believe you still misunderstand his point. The damage itself is not what he finds weird. What he DOES find weird, is the percentage of true damage he took despite NOT having build that many resistances.

You wanna know more? OP and his team destroyed the other team. It wasn’t even close. His Kaisa was 23/2. He’s complaining about losing a 2v1 even though the game was a 20 min stomp

Zero Skill Tank1 votes

Again, I'm not complaining about dying there, because obviously with that Kai'sa I wasn't even trying too build correctly. Nor am I complaining about Yasuo's state.

My only point is how warped the stat system is. Why would I buy any armor in this situation? If the game was more equal, I would be better off buying straight support items, because my stats are irrelevant.

This abundance of true damage will eventually lead to a situation when a tank will buy one core item, and proceed to get item 3190 item 3109 and the like, brining back the "buff the adc ad absurdum" meta from season 7.

So he did 37% true damage.

Conqueror converts 20% + 10% ie after = 28% conversion.

Not that much gained if u can do the math

He did 37% of the total damage OP took as true damage, and 42% of the damage OP took as physical damage (adds up to 79% of OPs total damage taken). Thresh did 11% of the damage (adds up to 90%), so 10% is unaccounted for. But about half of the damage Yasuo dealt according to death recap was true damage (37% vs 42%). It could be a bit different depending on if Yasuo did the extra 10% not shown from his ult.

Zero Skill Tank1 votes

Actually damage from ult also gets converted, albeit less so then crits (20 percent instead of 28), unless he opened the fight with it.

Sire Hippington3 votes

You're a lvl 14 poppy, base+w+tabi is enough for over 100armor, and 100armor is a 50% damage reduction(even vs his ult as most of it is base armor).

Yasuo has IE and conqueror, so 30% of his damage is true, the remaining 70% are reduced by 12% from tabi and then cut in half by armor to a final value of ~30.8%. So you take 30% of his premitigation damage as truedamage, and 30.8% as physical, which is is basically a 50/50 split.

This also means you take ~60% of his total damage in the end. Without the truedamage stuff, it would have been 44%, so the truedamage caused him to do ~35% more damage than he normaly would, and that vs a non armorstacking target.

The truedamage converstion is very powerfull and really makes you wonder why you'd ever get armor vs conqueror...and people wonder why conqu users prefer trinity over BC. Imo it was a mistake to introduce trudemage on such a scale to the game, it's fine in certain kits where it is kinda the selling point of the champion, but broadly aviable for many champs it just makes tankgear feel pointless.

XeroKimo1 votes

I'd really wish they'd nerf the true damage conversion to like 10% and go to 20% at like level 16, like I agree that the rune is a problem in itself, but I still see some value in keeping it, and making it so armor is worth buying early will definitely help a lot

Yasuo has IE and conqueror, so 30% of his damage is true, the remaining 70% are reduced by 12% from tabi and then cut in half by armor to a final value of ~30.8%.

Conqueror and Infinity Edge are multiplicative stacking NOT additive.

Conqueror converts 20% of all damage to True so that leaves an 80 / 20 split.

Infinity Edge then applies to the 80% physical damage which is 8%

20 + 8 = 28%

Let's say Yasuo crits for 500

Tabi's gets applied to the 500 so it's 500 x 0.12 = 60.

So that leaves a 440 damage critical strike.

We now do 440 x 0.28 to work out the true damage conversion which is 123.2

So Yasuo would do 316.8 Physical and 123.2 True Damage.

This is before calculating any armor or armor penetration items.

ez mental boom2 votes

The damage converted is premitigation. "True damage" isn't the important stat, "true damage that would have been mitigated" is

AP teams can't win. Full AD comps have an easy time due to this "true dmg"

Armor doesn't really matter.

One Quacky Boi1 votes

THIS. I played full tank Sion yesterday. 283 Armor and a Randuin's Omen. Yasuo didn't even buy a Last Whisper item, yet he still dealt over 300 dmg per auto because they dealt 220+ true damage each. He killed me in a matter of seconds when I had 7000 hp because I was literally unable to block his damage.

Daddy Ants1 votes

37% -> Half

[zombie-brand-mindblown]

Zero Skill Tank1 votes

37% is percentage of my HP. Physical damage he dealt was 42%, so yes, pretty much half the damage I recieved from Yasuo cam from true damage sources.

Obviously, physical damage is post reduction, but that's the point here - I pretty much had the minimum possible reduction I could have at this point.

Void Kaiju1 votes

Wouldn't take the recap too seriously. One time I fought a Jax who apparently did 800 something true damage with leap strike alone, according to recap
