It's time to address ranked grinders

Ranked grinders actually ruin games for people across all rankings. When I refer to grinders, I don't mean people who simply play ranked and enjoy their games. No, I mean the people who are able to inflate their rank by 3-5 divisions because the current system allows you to climb with a sub-50% winrate. There are too many safety nets that allow these players to ruin games for everyone and quite frankly, I'm fed up with it.

Allow me to reiterate again: i am not referring to people who are simply playing hundreds to thousands of ranked games in the area they belong. I'm referring mostly to diamond 5. However, this applies to all of the division 5 leagues but it's at its most toxic in d5. There are so many players here who do not belong in this elo - they don't even belong in platinum, maybe plat 5 at best. However, because they are willing to play 2-3k games a season, they can legitimately slowly crawl up to this rank and hold onto for hundreds of games because you can lose 10-20 games before even being dropped a tier. And what is their punishment? All they have to do is win 1-2 games to get back in promos and go 3-2. Then they're right back in and proceed to lose way more games than they win and ruin games for everyone.

Every single game is like this in diamond 5. Don't get me wrong - I'm not proclaiming that this is why I'm hard stuck because it's not. Right now, I'm exactly where I belong. However, the effort it takes to climb out of this hellhole just isn't worth it unless you're d1+ and skilled enough to stomp this bracket or you're willing to play hundreds of games to get better match-making in d3+. And the thing is, so many of these players exist because they get this d5 ranking and hover around it all season and when the season ends, they get soft reset and place in plat4/3 and can spend the next 8 months playing 2k games just to get back to diamond 5 and keep that rating despite being demoted from it time and time again.

This needs to change. D5 is already booster heaven but to top it off, you have low-skill grinders who don't belong in this area of play at all but because of the current ranked system, they can keep this rank every season because there's not much punishing them and pushing them down to the depths they belong in upon demotion from diamond 5. The old elo system never allowed this. I understand you want people to feel good but this is supposed to be competitive play where the integrity of completion matters. It doesn't matter when a fucking gold 3 skilled player can grind his way to d5 and ruin games there because the system makes it impossible to not climb to this point unless you're brain damaged. And that needs to change because there are players who simply belong in this skill bracket and their games constantly get ruined by these grinders and boosties who don't belong here.

I seriously think Riot needs to consider a hard reset next season to clear these grinders out. I realize this comes with severe implications but grinders in every division 5 0lp games need to be dealt with. They ruin quality of games and frankly, just because you have no fucking life and are willing to play 3k games a season doesn't mean you should be awarded for it in your ranking when your skill is nowhere near the area it's supposed to be in order to compete in this bracket.

I agree there needs to be some sort of hard reset. It feels awful loading up into a game and realizing your top laner has 2k games vs a 50 games played enemy top laner. Especially as a jungler you already know who's lane is over

http://i.imgur.com/uTxUYiC.png This guy played nearly two thousand games each season to get to Diamond 5, and I'm pretty sure he's going to reach Diamond 5 again this season.

He's a jungler and for the most part of his games he just afk farms hig jungle. Makes you wonder sometimes.

I think it's some kind of slow elo inflation coming in when most accounts which are below plat enter the system and start passing MMR up. It's probably not intentionally designed in. It happens every season.

I can't tell if you're complaining about those "grinding" to barely eek d5 or those that are d5 0LP and play haphazardly and can't fall out unless they start losing in like plat 3 mmr. They're not exactly the same people.

My initial thought was that at some level they prove they belong there in their mediocre way with a 50% winrate. A 50% winrate at least shows they're at their match probably not carrying or feeding to hard at average. But you can call into question the integrity of the elo with boosters boostees and other "grinders" in the equation. What probably pushed them up was the slow elo inflation then like a electromagnetic wave they fluctuate to hit d5 and keep it.

I don't think it's really the grinder's fault for why d5 is so tumultuous though.
