Why did it take us so long to realize this to the point even pro players didn't even realize it until recently?

"Us"? Speak for yourself, I've been buying them in games for a long time. And, I've gotten criticized for it before as well.

This instance just goes to show you just how entrenched people are in their thinking, only doing what they "should". It shows that even into the high, high levels, people still don't understand one of the most basic fundamentals of League "Build according to the situation."

I buy them on supports like braum and thresh constantly and nobody ever talks about it

Do you mean nobody has talked about your purchase or criticized you in game for them? Well if so, there's a few reasons I can think of for that.

A. They think you bought them to help with you engage because Braum/Thresh B. They don't think/care about supports and what they build beyond a sightstone. C. They think it's fine because you are roaming D. Since Mobi Boots are recommended on Thresh, they think Swiftness is just an identical substitute for what "you are supposed to build E. They don't ever play support, so they have no idea what to build and thus, don't have any stupid ingrained ideas about what you "have to" buy.

Though, judging by the people who say such things, I figure it's probably a combination of B and E.

A probably B they also prob don't C yea prob D I think swiftness is better if your more successful bot and ur adc can handle both E some might play support but yea probably

No. Lots of stuff happens in this game that shows that people are entrenched in their thinking and aren't willing to change, but Boots of Swiftness isn't like that at all. When the pre-season comes with a boost to the effect of the item, a 20% price reduction in that item and a major nerf to its biggest competitor in at least one market (Merc's), an item becomes very good.

Boots of Swiftness were definitely mediocre last season. Not bad, but not great. Now they're amazing because they became amazing a few patches ago.

They've been recently buffed, that's why people are picking them up. Also, mercs(which were the king of boots for a long time) were nerfed pretty badly, losing 15% tenacity.

because it cost only 800 gold now and before it cost just as much as any other boots?

Even then it still has so much value off of pure stats, i would still prio it even inf the price got increased, unless it becomes obscenely high.

I almost always buy swift boots on my supports and sometimes on other CC type champs. Mobi boots suck. once you enter some sort of combat, you're down to being a slow-ass again with only basic boot +25 move speed, meaning that either you go all in or you probably don't even get to escape at all as you will be slower than your opponent.

swift gives a constant 65, meaning that you will be faster than other boots PLUS comes with a bonus of reducing slow effects on you.

even at the same price i'd get swift over mobi.

Now I woulden't say mobis suck, their are some cases where mobis are better. All items have a place and time.

I've noticed even MaRin taking them on Kennen just recently. I guess in a meta were juggernauts pretty much sprint across the map at 700ms its neccessary

It was the price reduction and the nerf to merc treads that made them efficient. However I think this might be changing with the 100 gold increase.....
