Teach Me How To Taric

The Veigar nerfs have left me without my main, at least for the near future. I've decided to find out how I do without Veigar by playing my placements without him. It has been, um, somewhat painful so far.

I used to play Taric a lot. I'm thinking now might be a good opportunity to try him again.

So! Share your Taric wisdom. Right now, my main thoughts are:

  • Better when my team has lots of AD. (AD costs twice as much as AP, but his ult gives even amounts of AD and AP.)
  • Better when the enemy team is physical damage heavy.
  • Better with a bursty carry*, like Graves.
  • Better against Champions that really need to be stunned, like Kat.
  • In teamfights, should probably focus on peeling for the carry.

What else?

*: Speaking of throwbacks, remember when ADCs were just called "carries"? I don't really like this newfangled "AP Carry" term. Of course a mage can carry, and some mages even scale well into lategame, but this feels like a euphemism. Supports dominate early, mages dominate mid-game, carries (ADCs) dominate late-game. This whole "everyone's a carry!" thing seems kind of silly to me.

I feel like Taric is stronger as a solo laner or jungler at the moment; he's really powerful with items, and support income doesn't really fill his needs.

If the enemy team is full AD, my build would be: item 3047 item 3025 item 3110 item 3143 item 3075 item 3083

If the enemy team has both magical and physical damage, I'd go: item 3111 item 3800 item 3078item 3075 item 3065 item 3110

If you're going jungle I'd say go item 3725 or item 3709

I'm no Taric main, so don't take this as a 100% guide, this is just from Preseason experiments I did a long time ago; I really like Trinity Force on Taric because his passive synergizes with it so well, and he has pretty good base AD to make the most out of the spellblade procs.

The only advice I can give about everyone's favorite gem master is to play him like he's a top laner, no matter what role you're actually filling. You follow the same basic rules a low mobility top laner follows at each stage of the game. If you decide to take him jungle I would say go item 3078 item 3726 , since attack speed and mixing spells with autos works so well with his passive.

righteous glory is pretty good on him imo. his stun is lackluster if they're always slightly out of range. a bit of mobility helps.
