Addendum: Can we get one that doesn't suck?

I'm fairly certain that in a world where Executioner's Calling doesn't suck, life steal becomes useless.

Nobody used executioners calling when it was available. I don't think it will be as useful as you would think.

Funner fact, sustain meta wasn't prevalent. It wasn't an endgame item either, basically led to you sacrificing a slot for that power.

Because Riot put a bunch of items that were in theory, good ideas but they weren't practical, and or poorly executed. As the game evolves, Riot has to iron out the kinks, that includes removing items that weren't good. I'll admit, Executioners had it's uses, but with how dead ended the item became, it just wasn't good enough unless they buffed it, which they opted out not to.

Besides, ignite is always an option albeit losing map pressure for it but that's the choice.

I really don't want a KogMaw or a Jinx reapplying Grievous Wounds to a DrMundo every autoattack.

Dreadlocks1 votes

They could make it so its not every auto attack.. its just rough when you want grievous wounds but you are not AP so u better have ignite..

Do AD champions really need to be able to negate health regen? I admit there are probably some AD casters who could fairly benefit from such an item, but a marksman already deals tons of consistent damage; I'm pretty sure tanks with heavy regen are supposed to be a direct counter to marksmen.

Dreadlocks1 votes

If it exists for APC's why can't it exists for AD's. Whether it be a shitty AD item only junglers pick up as a utility item or not. I still feel AD needs the option.

Because AP champions, with maybe one or two exceptions (Azir, Cassiopeia) deal their damage in bursts. Burst is not a way of outputting damage that is particularly effective for tank-killing.

Marksmen, conversely, deal damage via autoattacks, which hit a lot more often. They are the 'tank shredders'. As such, tanks are typically balanced most consistently around Marksmen.

Tanks need tools to survive against Marksmen, which is why they can stack armor, etc., but typically, a true tank's kit gives them some extra survivability against Marksmen. Sometimes it's damage reduction (Maokai R, Rammus W, Alistar R), sometimes it is a spammable shield (Nautilus W, Sion W, Udyr W). Marksmen are forced to hit through these countermeasures for kills on tanks, which creates fair play.

Some tanks, however, use regenerative abilities as a survival tool (DrMundo R, Singed R...Swain R, though he's as much a mage as he is a tank). If you give AD champions an item to negate regenerative abilities, you hard counter an entire type of champion with an item any Marksman can pick up.

As a result, unless SERIOUS balance changes occurred, it would be pointless to take one of those champions into a match, because their strengths would be so easily countered. Why bother with a DrMundo and his negatable main source of tankiness, when you have the guaranteed damage reduction of Sion's W, or Maokai's R, or Nautilus's W? And, you might notice, those champions are ALREADY vastly more popular in competitive play than health-regen tanks, most likely BECAUSE item 3165 already counters health regen pretty well and is also a very popular mana item.

That, essentially, is why I don't think ADs need an item that applies Grievous Wounds.

That's why executioners calling was awesome. I only ever bought it on gangplank since it wasn't very gold efficient since it only gave crit. on gangplank crit and on hit effects are awesome! plus it built out of avarice! I would never have bought it on anyone else though.

Do you think healing is in a bad place right now?

DJ Di02 votes

I don't think there needs to be ap/ad equivalent items for the more unique effects.

If you want an AD morellos (grievous wounds), then I want an AP build-off for Quicksilver Sash (and you thought Kat was annoying /now/); and then you'll want an AD Zhonyas, etc.

Rustling Bush1 votes

asked a similar question the reponse was that it was removed for being useless, buffing it would only make it extremely unhealthy so that wasn't a option either.

NoMonku1 votes

I don't really think its worth it. All it does is negate the effect of healing for ALL sources. Also since ADC's usually do auto attack a lot(this is how they would apply it I assume) it basically devalues regen for whoever is getting hit and also champions who heal themselves. Morello's was already becoming a problem and they are trying to combat it with Athenes I believe(not sure if its working, though), but if you add a good AD item that can apply it as well, it just causes more problems then not.

qetzel1 votes

Wasn't one of the reasons for nerfing Morello/buffing Athene's because the Grievous wounds was too common? I don't think they want to add more.

He never even mentioned tryndamere wtf

EDIT: Ah, I see, there is as comment below that mentions trynda support. Please make sure you know what comment you are replying to...

Please also add an item with AD+Armor or use that in conjunction with what OP proposed. We already got AD+MRitem 3156, AP+MRitem 3001 and AP+Armoritem 3157 so it would only make sense

Ablast61 votes

That's the reason I hated them removing Atma's! It also was core on Trynd supp, where you built full tank + Atma's for damage relevance.

ButtersBBG1 votes

That would be ridiculous, and pretty hard to balance properly, it would be my forth item build on everything, or third depending on who I'm playing. That would just be a ridiculously overpowered item and just heavy counter an item like Thornmail, the tanks only way of actually fighting back against an AD Carry. And, on Zed, that would be my first item build every time, because that would just be ridiculous unless it's early game potential was just so worthless, then I would just stick to BorK on Zed first.

Executioner's Calling? Hello? It exists. It's terrible, but it applies grievous wounds. And it's AD. Sort of.

Dreadlocks1 votes

And it was removed.

How about an item that creates a field in which enemies have reduced healing?
It wouldn't be abused by anyone, since only 'Fighters' with CC could make sure the enemies stay in the field.

Spectre's Halberd

  • Recipe: Spectre's Cowl + Pickaxe + 675 Gold = 2750 Gold
  • 50 Attack Damage
  • 200 Health
  • 40 Magic Resistance
  • UNIQUE Passive: Grants 150% base Health Regen for up to 10 seconds after taking damage from an enemy champion.
  • UNIQUE Active: Creates a field at a target location that lasts for 6 seconds (500 radius)(??? range). Enemy champions within the field receive Grievous Wounds for 2 seconds. Allies receive 150% base Health Regen. 90 seconds cooldown.
