Why dont people play galio more?

An extremity underrated but good champ. I know he gets countered but people dont even pick him to counter a heavy ap comp, explanations?

He isn't exactly very fun to play, his abilities require a ton of mana, the stats he needs are all over the place, and the only way to reliavly use his ult is to also use flash at the dame time.

league of assassins, where if you don't have 2 out of these 3 things (high damage, tankiness or mobility) then your kind of left in dust. kind of why Velkoz isn't played as much as other mid laners either, he has the damage but lacks tankiness or mobility, Illaoi has tankiness but her mobility is abysmal and her damage is so conditional so she considered weak. now we have Galio , low mobility, below average damage, pretty good Mr tank but is weak in balanced comps. i also find his ult to be strange since his passive makes him a counter pick against heavy ap but his ult seems to be much more beneficial against a Ad Comp. also you can flash out of is ult or someone could interrupt the channel with some hard cc or support could cleanse so theres ways around it.

Very awkward to build too, since he's both a mage and a tank. Either you go too much towards mage and end up squishy or too much towards tank and do poor damage

This is my point of view:

I also think that galio is pretty strong atm. Even against AD matchups, hes doable because of his broken W and his extreme q basedamage. He also counters engagecombos like only a few other champs (illaoi, skarner, sej, -X?).

Why i dont play galio:

Manacosts are too high. You get over laningphase, really because of your w. But you cant really pressure your enemy because of your manacosts. Sure, i ,,win'' because the champ has high numbers atm, but come on, manacosts so high that i feel like i just abuse a heal over and over without making plays? No thank you.
Clunky as hell Well, my q is sooo slow but when it hits it rewards me, just feels bad. But E, righteous gust, the speed up windy thing really pisses me off. It's the yorickproblem, really: I cast a speedbuff (a slow in yoricks case) BUT I STOP TO DO SO. wtf? who in his right mind thinks that i want to stop walking when i want to walk faster?
unpopular Well, pretty obvious, people dont play unpopular champs. Also lets you avoid flame

If i could make a suggestion to make this champ a bit more suitable for the masses:

Reduce Mr scaling. WTF BRO? Thats his identity! you might yell at your screen atm. Well, sure but have you ever played against galio with an ap team? its downright retarded. I knoiw, counterpicking makes the game exciting but galio is too much from it right now. Maybe also take a bit away from ultdamage.

Now you can move his powerbudget a bit.

2..Give him a new passive. Honestly, almost every other tanky champ has a reason to autoattack. (only Sion and Zac dont i think). A champ with igh cd and nothing to do inbetween- haha im having so much fun over here. I propose a passive similar to tarics:

After Galio uses an ability he gets a debuff on his next autoattack called ,,petrifiyng slap to the face'': Increase Champion's CD's hit by petrifying slap to the face by o.5/0.6/0.7/0.8/0.9/1 sec.

There we go. Nothing too exciting just being more of a dick when CDs are down.

3.Take E's casttime away. Makes the champ much much smoother. If its not fancy enough, slow all enemys which run in the opposite direction of the skill (its a windtrail after all).

4.Dont give him a dash, still. Because you really dont want him to have one, believe me.

Skarner actually counters galio hard, since he has e, galio ult is useless because of it

He is powerful, but there isn't really anything fun about him other then his ult. His 3 basic abilities, while powerful, do not feel powerful at all. And his absurd mana costs make it where, until you have mastered him at least, you are often useless in a fight unless you manage your mana exceptionally well. That combined with his basic abilities being best at longer range, but his basic attack and ult being short ranged makes his kit feel disjointed. I feel like he is on the verge of greatness though. In this day and age, champs that see play are no longer appropriately gated-- so to try and play champs that are, be it from cooldowns or mana or what have you, is detrimental. Galio is all AoE/Skillshot, he has no mobility outside of a weak MS boost, and his mana costs and mana pool are outdated.

Why dont people play galio more?

He's powerful but extremely slow. Too slow and clunky, really.

His mana costs prevent him from using his abilities frequently enough, his cooldowns are a little too high, his casting times are among the longest and worst in the game, and he moves really slowly.

Also: Galio has a lot of perception vs. reality issues, specifically concerning his passive. What Galio's passive essentially says is "I do damage while building tanky vs. mages, and thus counter mages". Which isn't actually true: Galio does pretty mediocre damage unless he builds damage, where there are a pretty significant number of tanky DPS champions and tanks that do tons of damage while building tanky. There are a lot of champions that are better at dealing with magic damage.

All that said: Galio is a terror in ARAM due to the map, global passive, and summoner 32 solving all his issues. Unfortunately for Galio, Rift isn't ARAM, and you can't choose who you get in an All Random mode.
