The support changes were good for the game.
no relic heal anymore? Good, it makes enchanters like Yuumi/sona/nami/soraka actually stand out. Why were enchanters not being picked? Because why would you pick them when you could pick thresh/braum for a tanky front line/initiation while still generating sustain from an item? It was taking away from the pros of champions, their DNA, and just putting it onto an item that supports would get anyway.
AP supports like morgana/brand/velkoz now have to kill their lane opponents or force them out and get turret plating. They can't just spam spells once in a while and do a ton of damage. Yes, they get gold, but that gold isn't as abusive anymore as it stops once it's upgraded. So now they have to actually go all in instead of poke poke poke with 1 spell and forcing them out ot lane. It's harder to do so.
Supports are a big reason bot has been overtuned in a while, and a big reason why the abusive duo combination for climbing has always been jungle + adc. ADC having a support that was as rich and strong as a midlaner was insane.
Now there are pros and cons to picking certain supports, instead of these AP/AD/tanky supports just making enchanters fall behind.
You can't deny there has been tons of powercreep in the game in general, especially the support role. Now you aren't as strong as a support, as it should be.
and all it needed was a simple nerf
