Just went against xerath. As annie. Now I'm not complaining about being counterpicked even though xerath is sleeper broken. That isn't the purpose bc I'm sure id get swarmed for talking about a mage being too strong. I built negatron cloak first back. 40 mr for 720 g. That to me is a lot, that cuts out any sort of damage I have so I can survive lane as he outranges me. I got hit by q and w and out went half my hp when his back was lost chapter. Like oh nice. Youd really hope at least stifling damage would make you a little more sustain-y

I don't know what your game or Xerath was like, but there's a reason he's seen a huge spike in popularity in high elo games. He may as well not even have a mana bar. And I don't remember if they gave Annie any kind of MR compensation buff or not with the new runes. If not, his damage is probably hitting a bit harder than it should.

You don't have access to any real sustain so the MR is next to worthless against a poke champ like Xerath.

Annie at level 10 has 9.68 HP/5 and 33.9 MR. That is 12.96152 EHP per 5.

Xerath's Q at rank 5 does 240 damage on a 5 second cooldown, so even without any AP at all his Q alone is 18.5x more damage over time than Annie regens.

If Annie gets 40 MR then her EHP regen per 5 is 16.83352 so Xerath's Q base damage is now 14.26x stronger than her regen.

If Annie had access to some significant source of sustain (like AD mids have from lifesteal) then it would matter, but your best bet is Catalyst which is still pretty damn weak. However, if you really want to take a defensive itemization approach against any champion as Annie you should rush Catalyst because it has health, mana, health sustain, mana sustain.

MR will only extend how long Annie can last but that time is still finite, and the onus is still on Annie to engage and burst her lane opponent.

And honestly you should probably just start roaming after level 6 if you're playing Annie.

MR isn't the answer to Xerath really. Banshee's first item isn't a bad idea as it has much better efficiency than anything with negatron. Where you will see real benefits though is Unsealed Spellbook, ghost, move speed and protobelt.

Start ghost ignite, get in a few decent pokes with q then bait out his stun at level 3, pop ghost and all in. If you get your stun off you'll probably get the kill, flash for sure. Swap ghost for flash then kill him with flash tibbers. Then you can swap ignite for TP and you should be able to keep roam advantage.

Once you build protobelt you can match or beat his wave clear and you should be able to out roam/rotate him for the rest of the game.

His stun is his only escape and the lower elo Xerath's count on the fact that their opponents will try and play safe against his poke but baiting and dodging his stun then getting right in his face is the way to take him down.

If you watch Anniebot stream for a bit he makes it look easy.

Of course, alternatively, you could always just pick Zoe! ;)
