drain tanking doesn't work against burst and it never has

Marshbouy2 votes

and every champion has burst now, so ADCs drain tanking is not a thing.

in addition to what moody said, that build only does 360 average damage before defenses and around 77 life steal before defenses

change it to something like item 3031 item 3812 item 3156 item 3026 item 3046 and you're way more bulky with free pick on boots

even if you don't want to go maw in favor of an attack speed item, such as say item 3153 , you still end up with 50% crit, can put magic resist boots on and end up a lot bulkier than GLASS CANNON

and of course, builds can change by match if that's your strategy

with how the matches are set up now, you're probably better off with burst damage and area of effects but it really depends upon what champion you are using as well

item 3031 item 3087 item 3085 and your pick of items can rack up damage on multiple enemies. With infinity edge, runaan's does up to 90% of your total AD in damage

"your build is low damage, just add two more items"

yeah no shit dude.

drain-tanking has also been periodically removed because it was problematic

imagine doing 750 damage or more per auto attack while having decent or better attack speed and healing hundreds per attack

that's what used to happen

I made suggestions, you started with a build that emphasizes critical more than function or defense

if you look closer, I also had death's dance instead of bloodthirster and phantom dancer for some extra burst mitigation

Adcs lack the “tank” aspect. So they are definitely wrong that adcs are drain tanks.

LordGeovanni2 votes

You seem to misunderstand Draintanking doesnt stop you from taking damage at all its regen-ing your damage before you can be finished off thats drain tanking. Adcs can still do that just fine if not better than ever Barring warlords Bloodlust meta. Drain tanking isnt about taking small amounts of damage but rather regen-ing large amounts of damage because you do large amounts of damage.

That has only 50% crit, you need 3 crit items rush with Cait

Drain tanking only works on an adc if you manage to avoid most of what is incoming at you.

Marshbouy2 votes

"just don't take any damage" lol ok

Tahminatrix 1 votes

I never said just don't take any damage, I said avoid most of what is being thrown at you, if you are a long range adc and being properly supported, you will only be taking poke and not being combo`d on.

Poke / whatever gets through to you adds up over time, if you arnt taking any damage you don't need to be drain tanking in the first place lol.

Resistances can be substituted by mobility and range....as long as burst assassins arnt involved, in which case you have a support to help with that either by drawing attention or protecting you directly.

Also you said ""just don't take any damage"" ….what the fk are you even quoting. If your only argument is a lie/false accusation of what I said then I guess there is no arguing with you.

Not every champion can magically close the gap and burst you down, and longer range champs will always have trouble finishing you off if they cant even combo on you which is nearly impossible for them if you stay back enough and respond to incoming skillshots.

So, you've clearly never played the role.

ADCs have 550 range on average. Most spells, gapclosers, and summoner spells match that or exceed it. Unfortunately not every ADC has fantastic self peel or escapes.

Getting clipped by a VK Q usually means an E and then a W and R, near instant death. Not every single skillshot can be dodged and when one hits, it's going to hit hard.

There is nothing you can do agaisnt an amumu flash ulting you (unless you have flash yourself, but it's a 5 min cooldown. No, you can't just hold onto flash until you need it because chances are you burned it trying to save your own ass earlier on in the game).

"Just buy QSS" QSS doesn't negate damage and doesn't stop someone from one shotting you. Especially in the early portions of the game when buying a QSS would greatly delay your damage.

"just be properly supported" is fine on paper but unrealistic in practice. Few players care about keeping their ADC alive, they usually just care about diving the enemy team and trying to make big plays.

Not every champion can magically close the gap and burst you down, and longer range champs will always have trouble finishing you off if they cant even combo on you which is nearly impossible for them if you stay back enough and respond to incoming skillshots.

this comment is extremely misinformed. Not every champion in the game has to close the gap, but many can with extreme ease. Malphite, amumu, camille, maokai, sejuani, zed, talon, fizz, jarvan, kayn, kha'zix, Jax, kled, yi, nidalee, xin'zhao, Lee sin...need I say more?

In order to "stay back enough" to not get hit, you need to be far out of your auto attack range. At that distance you are useless to your team. Once mid/late game hits, the ADC range advantage is mostly gone.

Try actually playing the role before acting like you know everything about it.

Making up quotes from me again? Here is an example of how you do it.

"try actually playing the role before acting like you know everything about it"

Where did I say I know everything about it, where did I say I have not played the role? All I did was say avoid most skillshots which isn't that hard considering most crit items give movement speed increases in some way.

Youre quotes are all false and it goes to show that you don't even know what you are arguing.

The only quote you made that was justly used was "be properly supported" again, this helps with the weakness of drain tanking on an adc, in what universe did I ever say that an adc or a drain tanking adc would ever survive burst, if you happen to have a good support who can stop the 1 champion on the enemy team that can reliably get to you and dps / burst you down then good for you, if not then don't drain tank.

I never said "just buy qss"..another irrelevant argument and a shameful attempt to lie, qss is niche. just like drain tanking on an adc depending on the enemy comp, thanks for listing all those champions that you don't want to drain tank against and supporting my argument by not listing every champion that exists in league.

You still cant even comprehend that drain tanking is not meant to counter burst / heavy dps, it is meant to counter poke / little bits of damage that get through when you are playing as a backline, if someone is closing the gap and killing the adc that has nothing to do with them having lifesteal.

Its kind of hilarious at this point that you are only listing situations that you wouldn't use a situational build in order to insist that you shouldn't use a situational build at all and that it would never work.

You clearly arnt in the mood to have a decent arguement so ill just end this here for you. If you don't agree that drain tanking on an adc is possible and situationally optimal, then by all means its your loss not mine.
