Out Numbered Games

I've noticed in my ranked games I get more AFK'ers and Leavers than I do in normals. I'm not the only one frustrated by this, and instead of begging for harsher punishment to those who do leave or afk I propose a different approach. How about something a long the lines of Faster Income for the out numbered team. I hate to compare, but this is what Dota 2 does for their afk/leavers, it at least gives the 4v5 a better chance of winning. IDC what your opinion is to justify 4v5's being okay, there is nothing FAIR about being short a player with the same gold and XP income.**** Also, to further compare Dota 2's leave policy. They give you 5 minutes to return to a game. If you don't return you get punished. There is nothing acceptable about afking for 20 mins then rejoining.

I think this is a great idea. The only other idea I've heard that would be reasonable would be to replace the player's character with an AI script. Doesn't have to be doom bot style, but they could easily throw something together that's better than intermediate bots.

I like your idea much better (never played dota enough to know they did this). I'm genuinely amazed Riot hasn't done anything yet. They seem to have plenty of time on their hands.

Thank you for the positive feedback. :) Hopefully something comes soon, a lot of players would appreciate at least some kind of effort at this point.

That's what's cool about Heroes of the Storm, if someone DC's after about a minute or 2 a bot takes over until they return.

would only work if the odd player out wasn't allowed back in or just stopped earning gold altogether, othwerise "afk" come back rich. in addition 4 players vs 5 players is still obnoxious in team fights, its easier to get focused, less peel for your carries, etc.

Exactly which is why I propose we give afk/leavers only 5 minutes to reconnect.

Good suggestion, I hate it when people rage at us (even though they were doing terrible too) then afk, leaving us with their fed laner.

People have been trying to ask riot for help against afkers for years. While I can get behind this idea I doubt they would see this let alone lend an ear to it.

The big problem with that is that it's really hard to balance. There probably isn't a sweet-spot amount of extra gold that's comparable to the loss of map pressure (an ability to respond to enemy pressure) from being short on teammates. Chances are the extra income either won't be able to counteract the missing teammate, or they'll overshoot and let you stomp hard (especially for champions that scale hugely with money rather than XP). Riot cannot err on the side of giving the 4 in the 4v5 an advantage because that could encourage deliberate AFK strategies.

From my experience on Dota 2, this was somewhat rare (the 4s having an advantage over the 5s) the reason why it would be harder to implement on League is because items increase spell damage, whereas on Dota items generally just increase utility or auto attacks.

I still feel they should look into** trying** this.

Sometimes life comes in the way. I just played a normal game and our mid had to go in to work early. He told us, it was normals, so most of us were okay with it. If they just leave without saying anything I report them, but if it is a good reason, and they tell us (and it's normals) it's fine. A system such as this wouldn't work for situations like that, but it is rare for such a case.

Well yeah which is why League and Dota keep track of your habbits. Just like your driving record.. if you get pulled over and get a warning.. okay but if u get pulled over again within a month u get a ticket... Its all about How OFTEN you do it.

This system is far too lenient. As long as you aren't doing it too often, you can be a toxic quitter in ranked for a slap on the hand. As long as you're always waiting for that initial slap on the hand to go away before quitting again, nothing seems to happen. If there were an instant several hour ban or some harsher leave penalty people would be less likely to just say eff it and bail on ranked game because they hadn't done it recently.

Somehow after reading how Dota 2 handless stuff i feel urge to try it...

I really don't think this is a good idea, and I just got done with some horrible games, including a troll insta-locking Sion for top lane, when we had Olaf, and then Olaf raged and fed the enemy Riven so that Sion wouldn't win. Never mind that the rest of us couldn't win either...

Dreadlocks3 votes

While my suggestion doesn't incorporate something for feeders, that doesn't mean its a bad idea for those who AFK/Leave.

Starkren1 votes

It's just the whole gold balance thing. I mean, Riot stripped Dragon of its gold because so much global gold just allowed one team to snowball with very little chance of the other team coming back. Unless Riot could somehow make it that the team's gold stay on par with each other - which is still unfair to the 5-person team - I really don't see how this could be implemented without giving unfair advantages to the 4 team.

The same night I had this feeder, I also had a game where mid Xerath afked 5 mins into the game and never came back and we STILL WON.

I believe you, but you cant really think you had a better chance of winning because you were short a player. Obviously they would have to be careful about how much gold income they gave the team of 4. But my point still stands. 4v5 is UNFAIR. Basic example: team of 5 team fights with 4, split pushes with 1. The team of 4 is at a team fight disadvantage every time, pretty basic shit here.

Starkren1 votes

I'm not arguing that it isn't fair! It is unfair and it does suck!

But it's not fair to the team that decided to all show up to be at a gold disadvantage as a result. There are too many balance issues to think about that I seriously doubt Riot will ever consider implementing it.

Dreadlocks2 votes

Maybe, but to sit here and ignore the issue is redic. They either need to consider this and implement it wisely, or not give the losing team of 4 a harsh loss of points.

Starkren3 votes

Now a reduction of loss of LP or a Loss Prevention is an idea I can get behind and is far more likely to be implemented, I think, than a gold increase for the weakened team. Definitely hurt to lose 21 points last night. =( Snapped my three game win streak too.

MartinLaEpic1 votes

Unfortunately that isn't a good idea because if a team has a 0% chance of winning then they might say "ok one of u afk so we all don't take a loss". Sorry but replacing a bad idea with another bad idea doesn't make a good idea.

Dreadlocks2 votes

And what if the penalty for afk/leaving was extra LP lost? how many ppl r really gana wana take the hit for a bunch of randoms?

Starkren1 votes

Considering about half the afkers are probably, "My mom made me get off the computer," I don't really know how much that'd deter that.

Sona Ping1 votes

Considering that the four man team would either A: Be out a jungler B: Force the jungler to cover the lane losing access to jungle income and pressure C: Force someone into a 2v1 lane where they would be unable to last hit effectively, I doubt that the five man team would be at a gold disadvantage even with this hypothetical GP5 bonus.

junglerboy161 votes

Doesn't fix the real issue that if you have an AFK past 20 minutes in there is literally NO way to snowball fast enough to win a game at that point. If someone AFKs early on, you can hope to out level and out farm the opposing 5 man team, but once the game has been going that long, having only 4 members shoots you down no matter how far ahead you are, because they enemy team with 5 members has roughly the same net gold as you as well as the value of an extra body on the field. I had a game yesterday, we started off really bad and our support was super salty. We were making a really strong comeback though and right after they AFKed we aced the enemy team. We power farmed our jungle and lanes and fought and won several more fights but in the end we just couldn't get ahead enough because at the point where we could have started to really make a difference, we all maxed out our builds and they just split pushed our base to death because we simply didn't have enough people on the map.
