omg riot.. this made my day, customizeable champ select

SwiftKitten88··85 votes·3,639 views

FAVORITES

Right-click champions to add as favorite by position and find them quickly in champ select

You can sort by favorites to have them bubble up to the top of the grid and they work with the new position filters. If you play Diana at Jungle and Mid, add her as a favorite for both positions. Then, whenever you're filtering by mid champions, she'll show up - even if she isn't one of the suggested champs from the last patch.

i actually suggested this myself less than a month ago https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/alpha-client-discussion/oUKHvEQT-idea-customizable-champ-select

this really restores a lot of faith i have in riot. (which goes up and down from time to time)

tbh, this should have been implemented long ago. it's not a particularly hard client feature to make, in theory.

Terozu1 votes

You arent a programmer... are you? This would take a while to logically implement...

SH Azykan2 votes

LSI allowed you to do it in the old client of league already

Terozu1 votes

But the new client was made from scratch, and the sort feature in itself is still new. It would rightfully take a while upgrade it.

im learning how to program (learning to become a game programmer) and Dragoon is right unless your extremely new to programming and since riot programmers are all vets when it comes to it now implamenting and putting it to live are 2 different things yeah they can make it but then we have to consider bugs, client errors and all that shit so it would take alittle longer to find all major bugs iron them out and with smaller bugs being ironed out over time cause no game regardless of how good the programmer/programmers there will always be bugs

Terozu1 votes

How long have you been programming?

LichKing2341 votes

ever since high school but im still at a basic lvl (that was about 3-4 years ago)

Terozu1 votes

So we have the same level of experience then(timewise anyway).

LichKing2341 votes

yeah plus also taking collage courses on the stuff and my head hurts

Spoofghoul1 votes

actually my brother couldve made this in half an hour. . .

hes a programmer btw

And by taking a while it's mostly testing if we are being honest

So taking that into consideration with ofc some adjustments because mistakes were made then at most a couple days

Let's keep it at a week,

So no it wouldn't actually take a while it couldve been done ages ago

Terozu4 votes

I know a programmer, am a programmer, and this would take 3 or 4 days with a team of people looking at the code. This would not be easy, since they also have to make sure it works with all their other already fairly buggy code. There are not exaggerating, thousands of variables which could affect this. Your brother couldnt have made this work in half a month on his own, let alone a week, let alone half an hour. It would take him half an hour to figure out the outline of a net, then longer to make the net. And you know they dont constantly work on the the champ select right? This probably only took them a few days, which is impressive. And when it comes to programming a week is a looong time. For programming, a few days, is a while. Hell it can take a good programmer days to figure out how to fix a single error. (Though they are typically ID - 10.T errors).

Spoofghoul1 votes

well half an hour might be an exaggeration obviously . .

but days with a team is too

i know he makes far more sophisticated stuff in days on his own

don't ask me how it works i aint the programmer i'm a bit of a noob with that kind of stuff

all i was pointing out really is that this couldve been done ages ago

Terozu1 votes

You really dont understand how sophisticated this sorting tool is do you? How about you try and figure out how to create a fully working game of War (card game) in console programming, with graphics. Thats cake compared to this. A couple days for this is not an exaggeration, or even a long time in comparison to other simpler programs. And also, again they didnt think to put it in ages ago, they thot to put it in now, amd did it fairly quickly once they did.

LichKing2341 votes

hes also not taking itno account the time it takes to compile everything and make sure it doesnt go wrong then you would have to sue the art for every slider varying from champs and skins. now dota 2 has this but it took a good while to get cause atleast fro my understanding other things takes over like event stuff, buffs and nerfs bugs.

your brother would have to learn the code witch and become familier enough with it to make any sort of meaningful change witch would take if anything a week to maybe a month if hes working day in and day out

You're right that in theory, creating a "favourite" section isn't hard by itself. The automatic position-sorting is a bit more difficult, but still no problem for a billion dollar game company.

However, the more code you already have (and the League client probably has a lot of code when you consider how much it needs to do), the higher the chance of unexpected behavior and bugs.

An example is an old bug where Super Galaxy Rumble's Flamespitter did more damage on red side or something like that. Was there some specific line of code that made this happen (if rumble == on red side then flamespitter.damage = flamespitter.damage*1.1)? Probably not. Sometimes bugs can be caused by something that seems completely unrelated. It's not impossible that the Rumble bug was caused by the HUD change or a Bard buff or whatever.

So while making the feature itself is easy in theory, the potential of completely random issues appearing in other places because of it is always there, and that's why implementing such a feature can be much harder than it seems.

Exactly what I'm saying.

Riot was held back by the limitations of the legacy client, and after launching LCU they had a long list of priority features to push out.

For me this will only be useful for 3 things

  • Arrange champions by mastery so I can better decide what I want to play

  • "like" champs I hate so I know what to ban more easily

  • Arrange by champ mastery so I can first pick the new champ I bought faster

"SapMagic We're going to be testing out the position filters and favorites in NA first (they're kinda linked together) to make sure everything's stable and it doesn't have any weird effects on champion pick rates. That'll be in 7.19 and then we'll probably roll out globally a patch or so later. The sorting and Hextech chest filter will come out everywhere 7.19. Always subject to change, but we'll let you know if it does"

its normally the balance team that made it go down and every other team that makes it go up.

but the balance team is the most relevant
