Why trolls win League of Legends.

KnightLakega··72 votes·16,058 views

Bot fed 4 kills at the start. Despite that, we were winning every other lane, and doing good. Sona gives up, and insists its over and afks in base at the 5 minute mark. Except they dont fully afk. THey move around to avoid the auto detection, and keep talking crap. Though again nothing "toxic" just "omg give up this is a waste of time" stuff...

Fast forward over 30 minutes, we're actually doing very well. We're always down on kills, but we're bleeding their nose just as much as we are for them, problem is we don't have a sona or a 5th to help claim the victory...

fast forward even longer.. game is now 35 minutes.. 35 minutes going a 4v5. and being down only about 7 kills at the end isn't bad at all. We aced them several times but were too hurt to actually keep pushing our advantage because again, sona is afk in base crying.

And you know who's going to get punished? The people getting upset at this A hole for afking. THe person actually being toxic through their actions. yes they are gonna get away scott free for it.

Who's going to get punished? The people being upset...

It's human, and normal, and if anything shows a good mentality to get upset when people act like this. (no racial and sexist attcks aren't ever ok), but getting upset at them? Nothing should be wrong for that. My team pleaded, begged, and finally told Sona to F off and she's worthless.

They tried, and in the end, nothing worked.. I know 2 people said garbage, so if this troll reports, they'll get an auto chat ban for no GOOD reason..

and this is why Trolls, and toxicity reign supreme in League.. You can do things 50x more toxic and tilting through actions than any words, or piss fight in chat could do, but Riot doesn't care.. They won't do anything about it...

tell a person insulting your wife to F off though, perma ban!

Last season I had a feeding Draven Janna who kept using the missing ping to flame me and was being pretty aggressive in chat.

My duo partner at the time says "It's not the jungler's job to win your lane, play a bit safer".

Guess who got the 25 game chat restriction?

My duo partner.

most chat restrictions from "duo" players is because they think they both can be toxic and win the arguments because you have one more vote lol

i can tell you're full of shit because the first punishment for stuff like that is always 10-game chat restriction, and it wont happen from 1 game. your friend was toxic before and already got chat restricted, and probably had multiple reports against them from the games leading up to that.

they need to investigate the matter more i think. 500 games of inting is not solid enough evidence to procceed to punishing the players

Yea yea i know it's hard to detect a troll but thsi doesn't excuse when they ignore tickets of players who report trolls and show proof

Some day, circumstances may conspire to have these policies evaluated objectively.

These are actually unjust evil policies. Riot sets a bad example for the children who play their games. People are supposed to understand that they have a responsibility to police, to manage, their jurisdiction. In real life, employers, schools... any aspect of life that reaches a certain size... has to set aside resources for this sort of management, so that issues are investigated and resolved according to norms of fairness.

You can't just erase the concept of "provocation" "fighting words" "just cause" from existence, because they are inconvenient. (Well, clearly, you can try to, but you shouldn't.)

this Is it really so hard to implement a system like overwatch? They already have the replay system oh yeah maybe it's because people that int like that have spent hundreds of dollars on skins so god forbid losing a few thousand dollars that you were going to use buffing riven again because she has a new skin that all these trolls are going to buy

That s RIOT for you, they expect you to keep cool when having inters/trolls even tho well know and they also know that they will never be punished for inting/trolling. Let me tell you something I had a Brand who inted he went from the base straight into them just to die and he did for like 20+ times and at some point in the game he said I won t get banned for doing this, but you will for flaming. Made in China company, shitty management banning people for flaming trolls/inters, but how about banning those inters/trolls in the first place so people won t have a reason to flame them. Ofc they flame knowing that their reports for inting at the end of the game are just toilet paper. Only those for verbal abuse work. They could as well keep only negative attitude, verbal abuse and remove everything since they re not even functional. I had several games with inters in my ranked games on my main acc and I checked them few days later and they still continued to play like nothing happened.

I had a game a longish time ago where my team mates fed and I lost lane. I knew the game was over but they didn't want to ff. So I ran it down. However, I ran it down in a way that is undetectable. I simply imitated what bad players do, which is to say, I pushed without warding, took fights vs people with 2 level and 3 items advantages, started fights vs their super fed team by diving in first into 5 people. I went like 1-18 that game doing that and no punishment. Also, I didn't say a word in chat. It's extremely easy to troll games.

4 people that I currently follow have sub 1% winrate on Tahm, Nunu, Anivia,Trundle etc, over 100-400 games. I friended them on my alt so i can follow their "progress". The oldest one has 4 years and 400 games with 0% winrate on Anivia and Tahm. He is sitting in D4 even with this amount of negative winrate. (45% if sites are to be trusted.)

And yes I sent multiple tickets to Riot support. "Reporting them in game is the best way to deal with this."

No, this is upvote farming.

People get banned for trolling, but it's not instantly after the game they int. That's because there is no clear difference between playing bad and soft inting. While it might seem obvious ingame, Riot doesn't have the manpower to individually look into every single game that's being reported, considering people report each other for dying twice in lane.

How do you even know that they don't get punished? Do you seriously believe any of the people writing these posts look a second time at the profile of these trolls ever again?

Does that mean Riot shouldn't improve the system? Hell no, do whatever you can to make it better. Bring back the tribunal for player based reviews to make it easier for Riot to dish out correct punishments. It works perfectly fine in CS:GO and they've proven able to copy their design (looking at their stattrack excuse for eternals).

But these kind of posts have no substance whatsoever and are the same kind of "I got inted why don't I get instant-feedback reee" while also questioning how they got permabanned from chatting. Ffs it takes 4 steps to get perma'd from chatting, you can't be that delusional.

Nobody likes afk's and trolls on their team, but by just whining about it and not bringing any sustance to the discussion it's just useless spam.

What does one thing have to do with the other? People being assholes is punishable regardless of context, except for the very unusual case where someone types a quote or something. And it's not like other people are the reason you can't behave properly. I don't know why people have such a problem understanding this. Just because some guy afk's or ints doesn't mean you get to break the rules yourself. It's always been part of the TOS that you can't harass other people or in chat in general. There is no being "strict". If you cannot behave like a decent human person then don't be surprised if you get punished.

Has everything to do with it.

No other online game I Play has such a problem with toxicity. Not even Dota 2. (Anymore anyway once they cleaned up their community). I'm not saying it doesn't still happen, but I can play 10-15 games of Dota 2 and see only very light frustration in chat, that usually dies away quickly and everyone is back on track.

In League though? lol...... We all know what happens...

A vast majority of perma bans are what I'd consider illegitimate. People getting frustrated, and pissed off at someone being toxic.. To me, that's not the real offender, the real offender is someone doing toxic actions and actually creating the toxic environment. Dota, and every other major game developer understands this..

They'll perma ban the toxic actions, and slap the wrist of the person who got upset, if even that.. Not the other way around.. Normally they'll just let it go because they know there's nothing wrong getting upset that someone is legit throwing a ranked game. Not the other way around... This is why only League of Legends has such a notoriously crappy community and toxicity levels unheard of in any other game... Riot ignores the real problem, and keeps slamming extreme bans on players who only want a clean game.

But "fuck off" is polite speech according to you?

It's not polite, but it's commonly used speech. People on the internet know fuck is a regularly used word and often thrown around without much meaning. But personalized insults crosses the line. Yes you can argue "but it's just meaningless banter too", no. Racial and sexual slurs, death threats etc. are not commonly used and shouldn't be promoted. While you can mean a lot more with "idiot" than just "you did something dumb", it's still not personalized.

Also to keep it in one comment, you're from NA I'm from EUW, can't add you. Just post the chatlogs your friend got banned for and we can evaluate.

Objectively, there are arguments to the contrary. It's a "four-letter" word, and one of the 7 that can never be used "on the air". "Human garbage" isn't censured.

"Human garbage" is insulting (presumably a reaction to somebody doing something heinous), but it's not a "racial or sexual slur". It's a gross insult, indicating that somebody has completely lost all respect in the estimation of the user. It really shouldn't be different from just saying "I have absolutely no respect for you whatsoever".

How is "human garbage" more personalized than "idiot"?

Pretty sure that you can also get banned for calling somebody an "idiot", besides. In fact, the word is filtered.

It's also possible that there are different standards across servers. Something that gets one banned in NA, may not on EUW. That is why our experiences are different, and that is why you are incredulous.

See, that's the first time I EVER saw someone make a really well thought out comment about this topic.

I guess your last statement makes a lot of sense. To some people "human garbage" is probably a more powerful expression than to others. Still, if Riot deems it a punishable offense, you will have to accept that. I would still argue that words like "idiot" or the term "fuck off" are more commonly used and not filled with as much meaning, since they are just thrown around so often. I wasn't sure what class of words to put "human garbage" into, so I said etc.

Also the fact that "fuck" isn't used on air is a US thing I'm pretty sure. In germany at least I can tell you there's no problem with swearing on air. Sure it's not commonly used, but not prohibited.

The chat filter =/= bannable words. I've used terms like "fuck off" or "idiot" often enough and never even received a chat restriction.

I don't necessarily think it's different per server but more different per nation or even per person. However, it's Riot's rules, not ours. That doesn't mean I fanboy Riot, I fucking hate this company, but I just don't want people talking bullshit ingame and not even realizing they're doing something wrong.

(Yes, there's a well-known list of words (in the USA) that may never be used on broadcast TV or radio in the USA under any circumstances during common hours. There's also a list of words that can't be used depending on their meaning.) (And another set that might get a child's mouth washed out with soap.) You understand about "swearing" - this is what Riot refers to as "foul language" in the report form, and it's pretty easy to define. (Foul language is forbidden to be used in-game.)

What you mean by "personalized" I think: you want to say that if a player uses his vocabulary to craft an insult, rather than just using a stock-phrase, then that is actually much worse, since he must really mean what he is saying.

Riot doesn't usually seem to consider that as a factor. Because you can call somebody "mentally impaired" in a match with impunity, but they won't even let you type out the more common word.

Yes, the USA has it's own list of words that cannot be used on air. That exact one doesn't have to apply for Riot though, especially not worldwide.

With "personalized" I mean expressions that go one step further than judging the actions of someone. If you say "you're an idiot", that's because of a bad decision or action someone made. The n-word/f-word, words concerning nationality or religion are more focussed on the person behind the keyboard, not the ingame player. I hope you understand.

I'm almost 100% sure that things like "mentally impaired", while not necessarily being an insult often used as one, are phrases which are usable without immediate consequence and only punished if used over and over again as harass. It's a bit of an edge case though, I don't know Riot's standards for this.

But after all it's about decency in chat, if you can't behave like a normal person you get punished. You can scream at your monitor all you like, no need to drag it into chat though.

I guess that's true, I have never asked Riot for a report counter on my account. However, in almost 7 years of playing this game, I'm pretty sure somebody has reported me in such a situation. I might play a lot with premades, but that's not where I would say such things anyway. More likely in rankeds where people think they can predict the outcome of the game by minute 2.

You know why it was removed, right? The automated system (which was built from the Tribunal) does the exact same thing players did except thousands of times faster. The Tribunal might've worked when there were a million players in total, but now where there's potentially 100 million players it would take months before someone got to your report. Plus most people didn't even read the chat, they just voted punish to get their reward quickly.
