Who ever did the mordekaiser changes should be demoted

I'm not joking in even the slightest bit, I hate to say he should be fired but you shouldn't be reworking / making champions from this point on in your career.

  • Give Morde his old W back and just adjust the numbers.

I dont think Boards is understanding our complaints... So let me put it like this, **WE DO NOT WANT MORDEKAISER TO BE A MELEE ADC THAT REQUIRES TO BE IN BOT LANE. ** Thank you very much, have a good day!

The Mordekaiser rework is ingeniously designed. People have the right to be angry over Morde being shoehorned bot lane, but DON'T assume the rework is bad along with it. As far as kit goes, this is probably CertainlyT's best work.

  • 3 auto attacks to get off full damage potential on a champion with no speed ups / gap closers
  • W that requires another champion nearby to do anything
  • E damage reduced by 50% and scales with AD on a champion who shouldn't be autoing very much.

Theres 3 points that need work.

His optimal build from my, and many others' experiences, is going to be item 3078 into item 3116, seeing as spell vamp is no longer a needed stat. I personally opt in to movement speed quints. This puts my back to 340MS. Trinity and boots pushes me into around the 420 mark, that being around the same movespeed as a Trinity Force Irelia. Alongside this, Mordekaiser gains a 40% slow on all of his abilities, alongside phage from trinity force. Mordekaiser's ult, if needed, would slow for 40% for 10 seconds. Mordekaiser, with this set up, can reach almost any target he wants, outside of wall-hops and things that would trip over current kaiser. This version of Mordekaiser is set up as to allow Mordekaiser to build to catch up to people reliably. Current Mordekaiser does not want to build a lot of movespeed oriented items, because they don't give him as much as other AP items. This mordekaiser can afford to go hybrid.

Then theres the issue of damage. If you build only Trinity and Rylai's, your damage would be lacking, right? Mordekaiser's Q with these 2 items alone at level 18, across all 3 hits, which he can land because of his build, would do about 2200 damage, split nearly evenly between physical and magical damage, with 1 trinity proc.

You can't say "A champion that shouldn't be autoing very much" when new mordekaiser, while he may have the same goal in game, plays differently. New Mordekaiser DOES want to be autoing, as he will be a high damage tanky-hybrid bruiser who needs to auto attack in order to get his full damage off. He also has what may be the highest base AD in the game.

E is no longer the focus of his kit. Yes, his E is weaker in terms of damage in 90% of cases, but you are thinking of mordekaiser as he is now, instead of as he will be. His E damage isn't as important on new mordekaiser. What Mordekaiser wants from E, is a mildly decent waveclear, which, as someone who has used it, it has, but most importantly, an easy way of generating a lot of shield. Mordekaiser's E's damage scales up with levels, so you don't need to focus ranks into it, and then it also generates a TON of shield, as it gives the % of damage back as a shield, AND automatically fills up Morde's shield by 15% per champion hit. During the early levels, Morde can instantly fill up his entire shield with just a single E if aimed properly.

On the subject of W, I hate the fact that you can't solo cast it. I hate it as much as every one else does. HOWEVER, when used correctly in a bot lane, Mordekaiser's W is monstrous. It's an AoE Damage Waveclear Sustain Utility spell. While the prerequisite is ass and SHOULD be changed, the ability itself is amazing when used properly.

Whats the point of arguing about his Q damage... He will never be able to hit 3 autos off on a single target unless morde is being ridiculously neglected in the middle of a team fight on top of baron.

The Fast3 votes

Because he WILL get those 3 auto attacks of IF he itemizes towards the goal of getting those 3 Q autos off. There are very few champions Mordekaiser can't catch up with after a Trinity and Rylai's. After he catches up to them, all it takes is the first auto to proc phage's movespeed buff, alongside Rylai's slow, repeatedly.

At the VERY least, Mordekaiser would be able to land all 3 hits with his ult, which, with Rylai's is a 10 second 40% slow. My point is that Q will always do effective damage, and that you should itemize towards DOING the damage, not towards doing more damage. It just so happens that doing more damage is a side effect of building towards doing said damage, not to mention that 700HP boost. For this same reason, I consider Dead Man's Plate to be a very good item on new Mordekaiser as well.

Its not like other champions, where you are thinking about "what build gives me the most damage at this point?" or "What build makes me hardest to kill at this point?" Mordekaiser is about "What can I build to make me be ABLE to do my damage on my own?" The answer I found was Trinity + Rylai's into tanky.

New Morde is a melee ADC right? During the laning phase he's going to be up against Caitlyn Corki Jinx Kalista Sivir Vayne . How do you expect him to ever land a single melee attack against any of these champions? Or you have to lane swap him top and try to catch Gnar Sion Maokai off guard.

Outside of laning phase then, or as you said when he's purchased item 3078 item 3116 which is right around 8,000 gold when you add in boots. Which means laning phase is way over and the carries are on 2 item spikes already. So he's going to run in with no tank gear on and try to team fight at Dragon from melee when the enemy ADC is on item 3087 item 3031 or item 3046 item 3153 ?

I just don't see a way that this can succeed. We'll see when his final form is revealed, but so far he seems better served as a top laner who's missing his W skill. Like a crippled Diana .

exactly...

New morde is NOT a melee ADC. New mordekaiser does NOT build crit as his main damage source, but he does replace the carry's role bot lane. Note that his primary offensive build also gives him 700HP. That core also does not cost around 8000, it costs around 6.5k. Mordekaiser, in lane, will also have a support to HELP him get his damage off. That was the whole point of sending him bot lane, keeping his weakness/strength profile, while introducing a new character to help clear Morde's weaknesses. I guarantee you that Mordekaiser can land melee autos on a lane opponent with a Leona.

Morde has 200 range and a 675 range shield generation spell, putting his effective range in lane at 875, outranging any autoattack poke people want to throw at him. He will have good an bad matchups like everyone else. The worst I can think of are Vayne, Kalista, and Blue Ezreal. Mordekaiser has access to higher sustain starts than every other carry bot laner, and has access to many different summoner spells. Against someone like caitlyn, which may end up being a poor matchup for him, he can even opt in to take teleport.

You also neglect to mention, that in these mid-game teamfights, Mordekaiser will be 1-2 levels over the enemy ADC. You also neglected the fact that this permeates throughout laning phase, and that 1v1ing mordekaiser or 2v2ing mordekaiser, which many pairs like to do in solo-q, becomes basically impossible to do, unless he was just dumpstered in lane, which shouldn't be an issue, seeing as he has everything needed to just survive through a lane bot.

700 extra HP and a potent slow/speed up combo, alongside a support, the rest of your team, and potentially the dragon, is more than enough to win a mid-game teamfight with proper positioning.

item 1056 = 400 gold item 3116 = 3000 gold item 3158 = 1000 gold item 3078 = 3700 gold

Total = 8100 gold

Unless you think two item spike non-gap closing Diana wannabee is going to work without boots.

He can't out trade ADC's. Even the Leona you mention is an all in ploy. Get level 2 and take your shot and if it fails you just lost lane. Because you're talking about a double melee lane that can't trade during damage exchanges.

I can think of 8 or 9 melee champions that would work better in a kill lane than this thing will. Like bot Yasuo where if he does get fed he can actually be terrifying.

We'll see after he is put on the live realms, I guess.

The Fast1 votes

You are thinking like current Morde. I assume, under normal circumstances, you'd start cloth 5 or Targon's Brace, from what I've seen.

In the case of cloth 5, ninja tabi become a much more easily acquired boot type.

You seem to be wholesomely underestimating the tools new mordekaiser has to deal with, and return harass.

Morde has built in sustain FOR BOTH him and his support, which no traditional Marksman has. Alongside the shield and exp changes that make him work.

If, when morde hits live, and he gets those items, you aren't afraid, then you are either way more fed, or already dead. Mordekaiser isn't build for a Kill Lane. He's built to be, and has all the tools to succeed in being, a bot laner.

Phife1 votes

Why would i build hybrid damage (Tri Force and Rylias) when i could play someone else and itemize for 100% optimization? The problem i see with morde is all his damage being thrown into his Q, his W needing a second person to be butt hugging him and his E being used to get his passive shield off instead of being a raw source of damage. Theres no point in this whole rework if they're going to turn him into a worse version of udyr...

The point in reworking a champions kit is to keep the identity and clear up confusion and anything lacking in said kit. In mordekaisers case it was all taken away from him.

The Fast1 votes

I don't see the comparison with Udyr. At all. I really don't get that.

It seems CertainlyT read mordekaiser as "Drain Tanking Bulldozer," and I think the rework succeeded pretty well with that identity.

100% optimization isn't always the best option. Hybrid damage sources are valued because you can't just stack 1 resistance to avoid damage. Part of the reason Corki is so popular is because of how much magic damage he does for an ADC. This means, that in the mid game, corki becomes exponentially stronger than most others because there was no way you have everything you need to tank him yet.

And this becomes true of mordekaiser for the same reasons, on top of his burst being integrated into his kit in such a way as to always remain prevelant, so that even with your end-game tank, Morde Q will still take out 1000 HP or so.

Phife1 votes

Its funny that you keep comparing morde to ADC's, hes not an ADC. He will never be able to hit someone 3 times in melee range for full damage and his W STILL REQUIRES SOMEONE TO BE NEXT TO HIM.

The Fast1 votes

I'm not comparing Morde to an ADC, that was my comparing morde to a popular hybrid damage champion. I could have used Jax, and the same effect would have been illustrated. I like I said, with Trinity and Rylai's, Morde can and will catchup and Q targets 3 times, I say this from experience. I had a rather long chase happen with a 30% CDR riven, that ended in my catching up to and murdering her as Morde with said items. She couldn't utilize the wallhops because of my teammates around the walls.

That whole W requires someone be next to him isn't as much of an issue bot lane, and mid-late game, where morde is a part of the front line or mid line depending on comp and build, that CERTAINLY isn't an issue.

Phife1 votes

morde will not go bot lane. sorry bud, its just not going to happen.

The Fast2 votes

That's not an argument. I have given what I feel are very valid reasons for his viability.

I feel that you are so trapped in melee vs ranged that you can't see what Morde can actually do once he gets past his (easily manageable) laning phase.

Phife1 votes

I feel like you're really behind the change to morde, whereas i am not. So innately we're on opposite ends. Sorry. But if you've played this game at all kinda like how i have for 6 years you'd know that any melee carry needs a gap closer if he will be played at all. otherwise he will just be a champion you troll select to get people to dodge a ranked queue.

The Fast1 votes

I really hope this will work, yeah. I want a viable bot lane bruiser. Shame it had to be morde, but the end result may still be cool. Unlike the Cass rework, or Karma rework, this rework actually adds a new "mechanic" for lack of a better word, to the game.

Depends what you mean by "carry." Conventional knowledge means those people build full offense all the time in order to pump out the most damage possible while using positioning and timing to mitigate damage. That is less Morde. Morde is an anti-carry, like I've seen a few others say. Morde can fill the roles that traditional carries do within framed windows, but outside of those, he does his own thing. Similar to bot lane urgot back in season 3.

But yeah, we both have differing opinions. Only time will tell. I think both of us will end up being a little right and a little wrong honestly.

The AD Ratio is there for the sole purpose of making Gunblade a good buy on him

The Fast2 votes

This is actually not true. Gunblade is not a very good buy on new morde, from what I played. You don't need any form of lifesteal or spellvamp in his intended role of bot lane. Skipping over gunblade is an infinitely better choice in my opinion. Trinity is a much better option. You wouldn't put what is effectively a 690% AD ratio on an ability so that a champion can gain increased usage of 1 item. It opens up a wealth of hybrid build path options.

Selegun1 votes

So Trinity and Rylai's. May I ask what pieces you build out of them to start with?

The Fast1 votes

I usually start either cloth 5 or Targon's Brace 3.

If I start Targon's I go straight for phage and then finish the Trinity Force. I have yet to test Phage into Rylai's, which may also be good.

If I start cloth 5, I generally have enough sustain to stay in lane long enough to afford Ninja Tabi and a Phage, which is plenty to go really ham in a lane.

After phage I generally go Sheen into the full trinity, but honestly Zeal isn't bad either, just that it's effects are less noticable without the completed trinity.

Rylai's first may work instead of trinity, but I haven't seen it nor tried it, because trinity offers so much Morde wants.

Selegun1 votes

Thanks, I'm looking forward to testing that myself!

I've seen a few videos from the PBE that still has morde in a solo lane and using his new W when getting into teamfights. I've seen both AD and AP morde and his new q just wrecks face. E is no longer the focus of his kit but gives him that sustain in the group team fights that he desperatly needs.

He's got insane ratios on both his AD and AP as well now so when he gets in there, slows you thanks to item 3116 or with a item 3153 slow he will get that 3 q hit on you..

Adapt to new morde..

Phife1 votes

Okay so now i have 3 abilities to use? cool, thats not gimped at all...

GroundRuleDouble2 votes

Morde is NOT an ADC. He's an anti-ADC. Feedback from the PBE is saying that he's very OP right now. The level advantage he gets is insane. His passive shield protects him from ADC harass so he can farm freely. I, for one, am super excited to try this.

CreationFlaw1 votes

I think it's OP, but that's because I've been one shot like half a dozen times by a 4 second ability.

Yes, it is OP. That's part of the problem.

We Morde mains have our champ in the best state he's ever been. He's got a 2.9% playrate, he's got a 50% winrate, he's fun to play with something different every game because of his ult.

CertainlyT is reworking him into someone who can oneshot enemies, but only if he has a good support.

Which means Mordekaiser is going to be banned in soloqueue, but if he's not and I do get the chance to play him, I need a good support. If I have one, I stomp the enemy team by pressing Q and getting Dragon ghost. If I don't have one, I can't do anything because Morde is a slow piece of kiteable shit.

Good team=new Morde OP, bad team= new Morde shit.

Which pisses me off, because I was happy winning based on my own decisions, not that of my team. And I was also happy with a 50% winrate.
