Two Korean Gods in NA (a discussion on Impact and Piglet)
Just my thoughts and rambling on Impact and Piglet, two players i highly respect and greatly enjoy watching. In this article I will explain their history, and my thoughts on them. Enjoy~!
Season 3
So let us take a moment to talk about Impact and Piglet. Both of these players are season 3 world champions. During season 3 when they won, to some people to this day recognize season 3 SKT as one of the best teams to ever exist in League of Legends history. When all five of those players were in their prime, during season 3 all five people on that team were straight out stars.
Unfortunately in season four..
The support wanted to retire, Benji found himself in a meta not good for him, Piglet started falling off and they had possibly the worse split they had had in LCK history. No, it was the worse split for SKT in history. Because of this possible team drama happened, demotions were being done, people were getting fired.
** The final result as we go into season five.**
SKT gets a completely Revamped roster only keeping Benji and Faker
Impact and Piglet head to NA.
However not as a duo...despite a strong open friendship, the two would not be signed together but on different teams. However both of them would have completely different results years to come.
Piglet would join team liquid Impact would join Impulse
Spring split Impulse 4th Liquid 6th
Summary On Impulse- On paper this was a god tier roster, with a legendary chinese player in mid, a former world champion in top, a legendary korean on jungle, and a pretty decent bot lane. This was a roster set up for success, however unable to form proper team synergy the roster had some complication in this season and unfortunately ended in 4th. However one thing was clear, Impact was by far the best top laner in NA, and no one could keep up with him.
On Liquid- The roster showed promise with good players in each position, however unfortunately Dominate who now came open about his mental disorder was suffering heavily. Xspecial and Piglet HATED eachother, and Quas was also having inner team struggles. With all the inner team fighting, the team got a 6th place standing.
Summer Split
Impulse 3rd Liquid 1st
Not much to say here, tldr, both teams cleaned up their problems and became better teams toward the end. However despite Liquid having a outstanding finish, it would all fall apart in play offs, the team curse/liquid 4th place curse would live on. As for Impulse, unfortuantely the roster completely fell apart when star mid laner was caught doing illegal activities boosting accounts, and would be banned for the lcs. Impulse would be kissing goodbye any hopes for first place as they got stuck with Gate, who wasn't even a mid lane main.
Off Season Season 6 had probabbly the biggest exodus of roster swaps and changes we have ever seen, hell it wasn't even finished, we were seeing roster swaps DURING the season. But Piglet would stay on Liquid and Impact would join NRG
Season Six
NRG-5th Liquid-4th
On NRG- Like Impulse, was on paper a very strong roster, but ended up under performing. For some reason despite Impact being a very capable carry player, the man who was a legend on Jax, NRG had him through out all the season strictly play tanks with Moon on carries. Perhaps though this was the flaw of NRG, you had your star mid laner and top laner on utility/support champions, and had your lesser players on carries. Why they chose to do this route in drafts/picks made no sense to me. Because of never being able to find proper synergy even in playoffs they were very underwhelming.
On Liquid- The roster had it rough, the team captain quit last minute, they lost the star top laner, and Xspecial the legend, got fired. The roster was completely revamped, experiments were being done all season. However the beast that is Piglet hard carried all season, and they finally found a roster that worked. However with a roster full of rookies, they would only end in 4th in play offs. However much excitement can be seen in this roster for summer.
Conclusion
Impact will once again be leaving a team to join cloud nine while Piglet stays on Liquid. While they have both been on above average, middle of the pack teams, Piglet seems to be comfortable and happy on Liquid while Impact is caught in this state where everyone respects him, but can't find a roster to stay on. My questions are the following
1-Will Liquid and Piglet ever become a top tier number 1 team and go to worlds? -If they dont will Piglet remain on Liquid for the majority of his career?
2-Is Cloud Nine the team for Impact? -If not what is the likelihood of him going back to korea?
