I've been trying out some new builds lately and I find they tend to do okay on him but I feel like its not tanky enough. I usually get titanic hydra with deadman's plate. Is it bad to sacrifice deadman's plate for sunfire cape? The other items i build for garen are black cleaver, warmog, omens. Any tips for his build? Should I keep deadman's plate or should I stick with sunfire cape? Is titanic hydra a bad item on garen?
(You'll heal for like 200 a Second with this lol, when you haven't been attacked)
Don't get any item which is autoattack based, such as 
, since all your damage comes from your abilities anyway.
Imo, mainly just grab 
You don't need titanic hydra. Get brtalizer first, than sunfire / spirit visage. Randuin omens, cleaver are also good items. You don't need much damage, hydra is def bad since most of your damage will come from your Q & spin, in teamfight you just need to stick on the AD carry / AP carry and deny them with your silence. Frozen Mallet is also VERY good on garen.

Don't get Titanic Hydra on Garen. He's ability-based, fuck auto attacks.
Black Cleaver and Sterak's Gage are must-buys on him. Deadman's Plate is usually better than Sunfire Cape, but the latter can be bought in some match ups (I still favor it against Riven). Spirit Visage is the best MR item. Warmog's goes great with his passive. Infinity Edge is a cheesy item you can get when snowballing for loads of damage. Youmuu's is a safer crit item that also gives you a pretty great active. Boots will be ninja tabi, mercs, or swifties. Randuin's is good on him if against crit-based champs like Tryndamere, Yasuo, Rengar, or many ADCs.
Basically, 2-3 tanky damage items and then tank.

Usually I build him full tank and the single offensive item is black cleaver, because the cd makes a very good job on Garen. And I prefer Dead Man's plate instead of sunfire, because you can chase better or escape better in situations like 1v4 or smth like this. When the 5.16 patch came out I faced a lot of Garen players who build him bruiser...and guess what? I won every time, buildin' him full tank. I don't recommend you to get Infinity Edge, because it costs a lot. Just if you're very fed.
Anyway, my normal build looks like this:
Instead of you can grab 
if you're in late game and you must stay alive. But usually, with that build they won't be able to kill you. Even if I'm not fed, I am able to do 1v2, kill both of them and escape alive. But it depends on the enemy. Also grab if you wanna do some damage or split push or 
if the enemy got a tanky team.
Also, try to trade just when you're abilities are not on cooldown. Don't be afraid to initiate and to push the enemy under his tower, because, even if you don't ward you can escape very easy from a gank using your Q. And always adapt your build to the enemy team. Good luck!
