Katarina vs. Heimerdinger Tips?

All that bastard does is set up his turrets, stand in the middle of them, and outfarm you by a huge margin since he knows you're not going to commit suicide. You can try to push right out of the gate so he has to deploy the turrets closer to his own tower and they're in a less ideal position for farming, but as soon as you have to stop pushing for any reason he can set up shop deeper into the lane.

I don't like to call in a gank against him since, in my experience so far, that usually results in a dead jungler....

You outscale him pretty hard as a Kat, so your job is just to survive lane (and if possible, roam for kills whenever he backs/isn't pushing). Normally, Katarina doesn't build gunblade anymore (too expensive really) but getting an early revolver to sustain through his constant pressure (and also sustain through his DPS whenever you all-in) means that this matchup would probably be one of the times to make an exception and get the extra sustain (that and the higher AP they gave Gunblade makes it a bit more desirable than it used to be). Other than that, don't ever fight him in his turret nest, that is essential to surviving lane. It is ok to have one or even two targeting you if you have shunpo up, but never be in range of more than two, and try to stay away from all of them if possible, because Heimer is best when he can drop his burst on you and then kite through his turrets/Zhonya's inside his nest, leaving you to take a lot more damage for relatively low cost to himself. You need to capitalize on being resourceless and try to get him to go OOM, because when heimer is OOM, half of his defense and burst go with it (rockets and grenade, along with ult). Poke with Q as often as you can, just try to never take return harass (whether by standing behind minions, or shunpo-ing out of the way when he fires his W or E). If/When you need a gank (and even though you may not like it, you probably will) tell your jungler not to go hard for a kill right away. When ganking Heimerdinger, you need to burn his cooldowns first, including flash, heal, Zhonya's, ult, etc. before actually going for a kill, because trying to kill a Heimer who has everything up is suicide until after mid game (unless you are already really fed) without his ult, most of hist burst (empowered W) or revenge kill potential (empowered Q) are gone, and without heal/flash/Zhonya's, most of his survivability is gone. He is still a tricky little bugger to kill, but only having to deal with base abilities and his standard turrets is a much better situation for you than wading through everything else.

Kat has a harder time than most against Heimer, but roaming, sustain, and repeated "drive by ganks" are the key to success against him. It isn't guaranteed to get you ahead every time (because of course you won't play a perfect match every time), but doing these things will definitely make it more bearable. Just remember whenever you roam, try to coordinate with your jungler so that you have a 2 man advantage instead of just a 1 man advantage.

First off you will need to max your Q this helps with farming immensly. Second just keeping throwing your Q at minions that are close enough for it to hit him as well. Since you dont need resources to cast spells just keep doing that till he is low then all in him. Dont make it obvious that you are going to jump on him either or thats an instant grenade stun on you. If you still cant pick up kills solo, or with the help of ganks from your jungler then just wait till mid game. When it hits mid game just group up and roam, you should be able to easily pick up kills, and then just play the game out till the end.

Your best bet might be to roam and hope for the best. Kat's laning against heimer is absolutely awful in my experience

That's a very very bad matchup for Kat tbh. Too weak to reliably clear turrets, all in heimer, or farm minions easily.

Before minions spawn arrive to your lane and make sure he isn't stacking turrets immediately before minions spawn. He can only hold 1 at a time at this stage so if he is allowed to generate them in lane undisturbed he'll start the lane with 3 turrets for free basically. Smash his turrets, you'll probably get wounded, then recall safely by 1:20 and return.

Heimer generates turrets very slowly early game. So you can maybe smash his first turret with your abilities and an auto attack. Is it worthwhile...? Dunno, it'll only delay the inevitable. As heimer levels his turret skill his turret regeneration rate increases massively to the point even strong waveclear champs find heimer annoying.

The best thing to do is probably to gank heimer early before his turrets are setup... Once they are... even 2v1 is risky.

When the heimer turret field is too strong the bright side is it auto pushes lane. So you can allow your farm to come toward your turret. Use your dagger to grab cs safely in the meantime...

Your best bet is your jungler shows his love by giving you an early gank, or you find opportunistic kills roaming. The heimer matchup itself is probably hard.

If I were you I would go first item abyssal scepter. Or Ludens echo for extra waveclear and poke. The abyssal gives you resists and waveclear by reducing minion mr below 0.

So a couple people hint at it, but Heimer should shit on Kat if they go heads up in lane, so you have to adjust your play. I'm a Heimer main, and if I'm against syndra, I'm maxing rockets before turrets bc turrets aren't going to live. What's this mean for playing Kat? Simply put you have to adjust the way you play because if you play the normal match up you SHOULD lose, it's how the kits are designed.

Heimer is a lane bully and Kat has a weak laning phase, so you have to find a way to play knowing he's going to beat you up in the early levels. I think Kat maxes her dagger throw first usually and then her spin right? You won't be able to out push Heimer, and if he has the right runes and masteries he should be able to out regen your poke if you're bouncing the dagger to him instead of hitting him with it first. That means the best way to do it (at least I think it is, might want to ask a Kat main), is to max your spin first so you can roam better w/ the ms bonus. You'll have the aoe for when he shoves to your tower, but what you're looking for is to find a moment to roam, and hopefully make it back before your tower gets shoved down. If you can get early MR you can prob dive heimer and jump back out if you time it right, or you can get AP and if you have enough AP from some early kills getting you fed, you can start to shunpo when spin, or blade shunpo, or whatever combo works, to one shot his turrets down. If heim isn't rushing CDR then suddenly he won't be able to keep up w/ his turrets and you can kill them, shove, and roam more. Heim beats up Kat (especially if he takes exhaust, or is good enough to always save his e stun to stop your ult), but he can't chase at all. If you roam he won't be able to keep up, so that's how you have to play the match up. Make it an arms race, if he can't farm and push down your tower, faster than you can get fed from roaming and killing his teammates, then you will win hard.

You don't win lane vs Heimer. You try to farm and outscale.

bonfire105/22/2015, 1:29:43 PM1 votes

You have advantage levels 2-3. You need to all in him and do as much as you can if not kill him in this window. After level 4-5, you pretty much can't win 1v1 if he plays halfway decent and didn't choose summoner spells poorly.

At this point, just don't even try. As others have said, heim lategame is really nothing to be afraid of. Even if their team as a whole is better lategame, heimerdinger's terribleness might be enough to bring them down as long as you play passively mid game and just try to get as much farm as possible.

The other thing to note is because heim is always pushing, he's a great target for easy ganks. Usually that won't go so well unless you have someone with strong cc, like ww, vi, amumu or someone like that. He's squishy enough that locking him down for a bit should give enough time to burst him. I'd be careful about junglers like Lee sin ganking. While it's obviously skill dependent, a mess up with someone without guaranteed hard cc could lead to heim kiting both of you to death as you chase him down through his turrets.

Step 1: stop using Kat Step 2: get gud Step:3 Profit

Basically you turn this lane into a farm lane, put a couple points into W so easily farm under your tower then just farm up. You crush him in teamfights so as long as you don't have the need to kill him in lane then you will be fine by just farming and outscaling. When I play this lane as Kat I tell my jungler to focus on other lanes and stay away from mid.

Push wave Roam Get kills Snowball

yeah, kat's laning is pretty terrible

play something like lissandra where you can basically free farm regardless of whether a donger has turrets up or not.
