"Dun focus duh tanks!"

It is really unusual for me to want to punch people in the face, but, after hearing this as often as I do, it's getting to the point where I really do wish I were there to punch people in the face when they say it.

Obviously, if you have an equally good shot at a tank and a squishy carry, you're not going to waste it on the tank. But, if you're dying over and over again while you try to dive past tanks to get to those squishies you'd rather be focusing, maybe it's time to re-evaluate your strategy rather than blaming the people on your team who are at least trying to distract them and bait out their abilities for violating your mantra about not focusing tanks (And let's not even get into how we might even be able to take out one of those tanks pretty quickly if we all work together, leaving the enemies' carries much more open to your diving heroics once he's out of the way - this would blow way too many people's minds.)

Yea but sometimes the rest of my team uses everything on the enemy Amumu while the enemy Jinx is in the back chunking them down, and then they wonder why they lost that team fight...

Triforce Podcast has a great episode on teamfighting. They say your job is to dish out as much damage as an AD Carry as safely as possible.

The solution is to change tactics.

Tanks are the master of team fights, if your team just gets repeatedly squashed by their tank dives, reformat the strategy instead of running your team against theirs over and over, you can't win.

Separate them is the way to go.

This is partly why we have adc's and items like botrk and LW.

Both teams should have at least one tank and/or bruiser. Tanks are like adc's now, you should have at least one. Three assassins on one team doesn't work.

Your tank locks down the enemy team, keeping them from diving your squishies. The mage barrages the enemy team, the assassin would find opportunities to catch a squishy out, the support fulfills their role either defensively or providing teamwide utility, the bruiser would tank some but also dish out damage and perhaps dive the backline to disrupt the enemies' positioning, and the adc focuses whoever is closes and safest to autoattack (which is typically the other tank!).

Of course, this doesn't match all team comps and champion picks, but it's a general teamfighting guide.

tl;dr: yes, it's okay to focus the tank if you need to. Especially the adc who needs to focus on surviving, not diving the enemy team.

If you're dying trying to dive past their tanks, stop diving. The first person that should dive is your teams tank, if you have a tank initiator. If you don't, then diving is the last thing you want as the enemy tank will simply counter initiate onto you and pretty much lube you up for his team.

As a tank, you want to jump on the first person you can and start unleashing heck on every member of the enemy team in range to disrupt them, from there the rest of your team can position and go to work taking down squishies that they can reach.

The only person that should be attacking the tank, should be your ADC, from max range to try and avoid being grabbed by the enemy tank.

my only issue is people who blow every good goddamn ult on the tank, just because they initiated first. Save that s*** for the accompanying melee dps hero, or whatever other assassin tries to sneak in.
