I can't believe I'm asking this, but...anyone got any advice for Yorick?

OTHER THAN 'boo-hoo Poopy champion don't play him ever!'

Yes, I know he's supposedly sub-par. I also know if I was at a decent MMR he'd probably never work. These are things I am aware of. If nothing else, think of this as an intellectual exercise; imagine this is some crazy fairy-land where he's actually VIABLE in general.

But that doesn't take away that he has some pretty damn good damage and sustain, particularly in lane. His ult is useful, and he just....he reminds me to an extent of Old Mordekaiser: not often played, but strong in his own way.

Only problem I'm really having is items. Maybe runes too, but largely items.

item 3004 ....I get the point of Manamune, I've heard it's for late-game, but that doesn't really help me while I'm attempting to stack the damn thing. It feels like a wasted space until I EVENTUALLY get Muramana and by that point people have tons of armor and other defenses so we're at an impasse.

his E is strong and the heal is dead useful in a lot of situations, but magic damage that scales off AD, and his W isn't bad for magic damage but it's definitely there only for the slow. I've toyed with the thought of item 3001 for the magic pen and the little bit of AP on his W wouldn't hurt (nor would the Magic Resist, truth be told) but I'm torn on if it's really worth it.

item 3057 /item 3025 is doubtless something worthwhile, but I'm torn between doing that and grabbing, say, a item 3071 or item 3078 first. Cleaver I can't decide if it's more of a niche item or actually worth it.

Just any advice on items/building in general would be appreciated. I'm curious since yeah he's not OP, he's not FotM. He might even stand a bit of a buff to have some more reliable killing potential (I've found that without ignite you wind up juuuuust short of being able to murder someone's face a lot of times. Talking a sliver of health remaining here.) But by and large I play only normals so it's not like it'll be screwing up anyone's precious LP, so humor me will ya?

TL;DR As a teammate remarked yesterday "you never know what Yoricks are going to build." I've been playing him and find that to be true. Any ideas?

Hi there, semi-Yorick main here (I don't use him too often in ranked because I get reports for trolling >_> ), first off let me clear up a misconception about Yorick: he is not weak.

Yorick is, as you probably know, one of the single strongest laners in the game. "Yorick walks into a bar, there is no counter", and all that. However, he also scales very well as a duelist. It's really hard to 1v1 someone who can clone himself. His ult also has a surprising amount of utility. For example, did you know that your clone attacks turrets? I once pushed top while the enemy team was engaging my team mid in a 5v4. I pushed down the first turret quickly, pushed to the second turret, and proceeded to ult myself and shred the second turret before they could even think of stopping me. Come late game, naturally it can be used to add more DPS to a fight by ulting your ADC/APC (APC if your mid is someone like Cassiopiea or Ryze or whoever, but it's better on a fed ADC since the clone's AD scales off of theirs). Yorick is basically a huge badass, and if you master him you'll be a huge badass.

Anyway, first of all, in almost every match up start crystalline flask and three mana potions. Health potions are for wimpier champions who can't take a beating. In some scenarios you may wish to switch out crystalline flask for cloth/5, like when you're against Riven or whatever.

Tear of the Goddess is almost always the item you get on first back, with the only exception being if you're against a high damage laner that can actually kill you, like, well, Riven. After you get your Tear, either work on completing your Manamune or build some defense (I favor the latter personally). Frozen Heart when against AD lanes, spirit visage against AP, but you will be getting both by the game's end. They are core. Boots depends on game. Ninja tabi, mercury's treads, and swifties are all viable.

After these four items you have some flexibility. Black Cleaver is good because your ghouls apply stacks of it, and it's a good way to help out the ADC you're ulting. Triforce/Iceborn Gauntlet increases his DPS and can help him with being kited, with Iceborn also giving him more armour, which is nice. Last Whisper is good if you're snowballing. Maw of Malmortius is a good offense/defense item for Yorick. Zz'rot portal is great if you want to be the most oppressive douchebag in the game, constantly pushing turrets. Yorick is one of the few champions who can build an Essence Reaver without it being a troll buy. In general, extra defensive items are also good.

Hope this helps, and I hope you find success with the King of the Top Lane.

item 3508

Spam ghost and item 3043 and still never run out of mana.

I also prefer BC on Yorick cause his ghost can apply the stacks.

I would not get too comfortable with Yorick atm as he is getting a complete rework soon.
