#JustShacoProblems

Okay, the title was an awful joke, but that's what been going on with my friends and I lately. We've been seeing Shacos...A LOT. Moreso than usual. One of our group who likes to either top or jungle and is easier to put on tilt than I am (when it's five of us I tend to take jungle as a role unless one of them wants it) was probably spitting in rage recently at one.

Now I know, it's Shaco. If you're mad to the point of a busted blood-vessel, he's doing his job. But it is a problem and so I come, as a humble member of a group of bronzies and silvers, to you folks in hopes that you can answer me some questions:

1: Are we just having bad luck here, or is Shaco actually good in this meta? Is there something we don't know? Anyone got any ideas WHY we're seeing him frequently? If it's free week just tell me and I'll put on the dunce hat and sit in the corner.

2: Presuming his presence doesn't drop off for some reason, knowing that Shaco just invades, lives in our jungle, and is difficult to catch and/or kill, what strategy should we be using against him? Normally we play blind or team builder so banning him isn't exactly an option, but there's also other bans to be considered anyway over him. If nothing else if there's an enemy Shaco, and my team is suffering, what can I do to stop the bleeding or give us a chance?

Shaco is an early game jungler who needs to make a huge impact early as he becomes practically useless later on and usually needs to split push to be even counted as half a champion after 35 minutes. Games are ending faster so that is one advantage he's gotten.

He also has typically better win rates in lower rankings because people don't learn how to adapt to a shaco and can easily be taken advantage of.

It's really hard deal with a decent Shaco, I guess, if he lives in your jungle, just invade his. Make sure your entire team is warding, and people need to always be looking out, because if he ganks your jungler, a responsive team can be helpful, even if it's just one other person.

Try to help out your jungler level 1, Shaco will almost always go for a cheese.

Also, don't overextend, buy pinks and put them in the brush, etc.

Beyond the change to the clone (It helps but not humungous) shaco hasnt changed much. I played him exclusively season 5 on this account pretty much. He is good as a Jungler (AD) or Top/Mid/Support (AP). Alot of people are catching on and starting to use him more (Hes #7 on platplus win rate)

He's a high skill cap champ, so the longer people play him the better he is (and more frustrating to play against).

  1. With Bronze and Silver a shaco can easily exploit the fact you have very little, if any, map awareness. It's probably just bad luck you're running into him more frequently, or you're banning more jungle champions than laners right now based on the meta.

  2. Well, if you're playing blind or Team builder, you don't have any control over the enemy comp or champs, which is probably compounding #1. Play draft so you can ban things you don't want to deal with, or make a comp that can handle Shaco. As far as strategy, the goal to beat Shaco is to not let him beat you. Don't overextend without wards, ward your own jungle, and assist your jungler if he's being invaded. As a laner, shove the lane and go back to turret, assume Shaco is waiting in the wings for you to not pay attention just once for him to kill you. If their laner starts to engage, assume he's ganking and will reveal shortly. If you can get to mid game without feeding the Shaco or letting your jungler get behind then you're already ahead.

Shaco's midgame is terrible, and it lasts from around level 8 until near full build since he must build like an ADC to do anything he's actually meant to do.

Rengar. Just... Rengar. I play a lot of Rengar and Shaco, and Rengar is a terrible counter to him. Just keep a ward in the beginning and if blue side ward behind the wall, if redside ward the bush on the right and if he comes, get out of there. After that, get your teammates and get him out of your jungle or kill him. After that, just kill him as much as you can with ult and possibly steal buffs and voila, he's tilted instead. :3
