Can someone help me understand the Dynamic Queue hate?

Sadistic Cheese·4/17/2016, 2:37:31 PM·13 votes·3,470 views

I get the hate that, for example, if you pick Fill you're getting Support. That's just what's going to happen. That sucks, and I understand it.

I also get that queue times suck (possibly because of the above issue.)

But what I don't understand is the Ranked 'We want Solo Queue!' business.

Because here's the thing that pops into my brain when I read the complaints about that:

There's ALWAYS somebody moaning and whining about 'gg team too heavy!' 'can't carry out of Bronze 5 with all these shitty teams I get matched with!'. I even remember seeing people lament that if they could just find a team that was halfway decent or at least didn't feed the hell out of their lanes, they could carry easily due to their individual skill and that sometimes having a Duo partner just wasn't enough to stop the proverbial bleeding of three other players who are supposedly brain-dead monkeys.

That kind of complaint has always been around for as long as I can remember. People would say 'play Ranked 5s!'. The response was usually something like 'I can't find 4 other people who are good who are consistently all on at the same time!' or they don't want to play against pro teams climbing the ladder or somesuch.

That doesn't even touch the 'every time someone instalocks mid like a jerk when I'm CLEARLY the best midlaner and the Second Coming of Faker!' field of complaints.

So...people whine about horrible teams. Not getting their role. Refuse to play 5s. Say Duos aren't enough.

Riot gives Dynamic Queue, which at least takes a stab at SOLVING EVERY COMPLAINT ABOVE.

suddenly people WANT SOLO QUEUE BACK.

Excuse me? Wat? Solo Queue used to be the butt of COUNTLESS jokes and complaints. "I don't need sex because Solo Queue ****s me every day!" and such.

What's going on here? Is this Stockholm Syndrome or something? Why on earth would you hate something vehelmently, swear that it's riddled with problems, then when something comes out that at least TRIES to SOLVE those problems...you want the poop sandwich back?

Dynamic queue hate has nothing to do with the things mentioned above. Dynamic queue hate comes from the idea of removing premade limits and allowing any number of people to potentially queue up together then face off against a group of players who're all solo. Alot of arguments against this are things like "Premade groups are mostly people who aren't even on comms with each other" or "People are just making excuses and premades aren't that big of an issue" or some even use the numbers that riot released to talk about how the issue is almost non existent.

The facts are this. There are thousands of ranked games each day involving premades of above 2 people being matched up against solo teams.

There are 10's of thousands of solo players who while not exactly on a solo team have to suffer due to premades in some shape or form.

High elo is being destroyed by premades in almost 100% of the games played above diamond 5.

High elo players themselves who's opinion riot said they would listen to but haven't complain on a daily basis about the blatant issues with Dynamic queue and constantly talk about how Dynamic queue was a failure.

This has nothing to do with Dynamic Queue.

You are talking about the new champion selection, which is also great.

No, you are confusing Dynamic Queue and the new Champion selection.

The latter solved many problems, the former none.

suddenly people WANT SOLO QUEUE BACK.

People want the ability to play alone and get matched with 9 other random people who queue alone as well.

A game without premades skewing things up. This is currently impossible to do.

People hated Ranked blindly before and, now that Riot has made a change to Ranked, they have found something to direct their hate towards.

While there are legitimate problems with DQ, I feel that the majority of the hate is more towards the principle rather then the execution. I can discuss the premade complaints or queue wait times, but the boards are a bit too biased to have a back and forth discussion.

DQ in my eyes is riot silently admitting that going into the game with a solo mentality is no longer viable. Lane dominance is less meaningful, towers can't protect from dives as well as before, neutral objectives have become much more important requiring earlier group ups, and map awareness and vision has become even more important. Gbay had a good video on the topic that is still pretty relevant despite being made before DQ's release.

It should be noted that most of these changes were felt primarily by higher elo players. Bronzes and silvers, such as myself, felt no substantial changes because we are so bad mechanically and decision making, that these changes might as well not have happened. That is until DQ happened. With DQ all it took was one player in a premade having decent map awareness for the team to start pulling more advanced tactics. Season 6 has been both the hardest and most drastic changing season due to the impact DQ has had on the lower elos decision making. Lane-swaps, complementary team comps, objective prioritization, it all started to happen in drastic amounts. Not to a level that would intimidate upper elos, but to a bronzie like myself its was a massive difficulty spike.

Upper elos have it worse as their player base is smaller, but even the most advid DQ defender (such as myself) can't ignore its impact on the meta.

Outside of high elo its just a bunch of people that are probably actually bad and they are salty because they are losing more games because good players are banding together so they dont have to deal with feeding scrubs shit anymore. Any time i have ever done a 4 man the rando we picked up was utter garbage even if we let them be the jg they just make horrid choices etc not quality at all.

Or you could make a friend and just duo with them? I understand the solo queue problem. But people will always complain about something. Probably the ones that do not spend on the game or spent a lot of money or have been playing since the game came out or whoever wants to complain just so they can.

Riot will do something about it and it is their decision to make and they'll do what they think is best for the game and the players. I don't care want people say about Riot but you have to consider that this game is a business and they are running what they think its best to do.

And on that day none of the reasons why people hate dynamic queue were stated.
